Sad. Sad. Sad.
Yup. I feel we had one of the better examples of a B7. Didn't have 90% of the chronic problems people reported. [:(]

I'm glad to hear your wife is ok, though. Cars can always be replaced. Family, friends, and such...not so much. Keep us updated.
Thank you. I 100% agree. As much as we (her especially) absolutely loved that car, it's health is trivial compared to hers.

Depending on your needs, I do know a certain B6 S4 Avant 6MT that's for sale. [:D] lol
Dan, I would be lying if I told you that I wasn't looking at your classified not 15 minutes ago. B6 is not my first choice, but it's a definitely a contender.

Thanks gentlemen. White Ti is definitely looks good. As great as our avant was, it had one fatal flaw - autotragic. Will definitely be fixing that with it's replacement.

Always good when you feel like you had one of the better cars...except when it goes away. Then you're left hanging. It's great to know how solid these cars are built, that with an accident of this magnitude, your wife can get out, walk away, and keep looking for a new wagon to love. You'll find one, that's not tiptragic, preferably! [:D]. That's the biggest problem with the B8's...never a manual offering.

As for my B6, I understand about looking for B7's. I, myself, was looking to "upgrade" from the B6 to a B7 at one point. Instead, I ended up with the B8! LOL

tankdeer
10-24-2011, 11:53 AM
Thanks Dan, but I don't think it counts as an "upgrade" if you still have both, and have for a while now. [:)]

Oy. Yeah, that hurt. Sorry guys, that's never a fun situation to be in. Unfortunately, I've had two of my cars totalled in my life. Never a fun experience, regardless of which side you're on.

The thing I hate, is that you can look at it and thing "it's not totalled," then they get it all pulled apart, and the interior pieces that need replacing start adding up quick.

tankdeer
10-24-2011, 12:57 PM

Thanks. We picked through it yesterday and took everything that wasn't bolted down (even took the cargo cover. car was missing it when we bought it, so it seemed like the thing to do [:p]). Other than that, no we don't really plan on parting out. It only had minor mods and nothing is really worth the effort to get back. The wheels are about the only thing but the only thing I have to replace them with is our winters and I'd rather keep those than get the VMRs. We were bored with them anyways.

Found out one of the calipers is missing the tensioner pad, aside from the fact that they're both bent like someone pried at the metal instead of acutally figuring out how to release it. No idea how I'll find something like that, FML.

Axel - You should have thrown Twins Autoworks a few extra buck to srub the front of your engine with some Simple Green while they were installing the SC to clean off all the old oil

yourtoys7 - That picture looks great in Black&White. The BBS CH's really bring out the whole shot. So was the Cascade box what Thule had before they cam out with the Atlantis models?

I myself just mounted my Whispbars and Atlantis 1600 last night. After driving with it today I think I may need to adjust a little more to make it more sturdy on the roof. That or actually put something in it, and hopefully that will keep it from shaking in the wind the way it does a little bit. That's the good bit of news I have for my car. The not so good news is that I believe USPS has lost the wood trim I was sending to oCarbon and that my car is making a pretty terrible noise that may be coming from under the timing belt covers

In NH right now and it is snowing like a son of a bitch. Unreal...all the trees still have leaves and are pretty much hanging out into the roads. Wouldn't be surprised if we lose power any minute.

The bad stuff:
A few weeks ago, some Jim Brone backed into my front passenger-side fender while I was parked in Boston and...yup, you guessed it...they didn't leave any insurance info. Fucking street parking. I think its time I sacked up and got a parking spot.

The good stuff:
Well, after being Unitronic Stage 1 for about a month, I managed to finally get the time to switch out my diverter valve to the Revision D. I was really interested in seeing what the insides looked like so I pulled it apart, checked it out and put it back together. no big deal. Except I didn't notice that the spring had fallen out until I had the whole car back together. I was f'n pissed. Before I had the new DV installed, I was asking myself why the piston was sticking, but it never occurred to me that anything was missing. Anyway...I'm all good now and the car runs great.

I also managed to fix the major hood gap that I've had since July after installing FLYs V4 LEDs. That was also a prick of misery trying to get just right but it was absolutely worth effort.

Next week: Blizzaks!

Well, I'm still breaking in the new clutch so haven't fully pushed the car but you certainly feel a big difference. The car just wants to go, all the time. I'm having to relearn how to drive it due to the new tune (didn't have a tune prior), lwfw and stage 4 clutch. The revs go up like crazy at the lightest touch and the friction point on the clutch is very short and instantly grabs. Creeping is a bitch until I adapt. Sound wise, there's a louder ticking from the injectors but barely noticeable from inside the car when driving it. Slight whine at idle from the vortech but you can't hear it at higher rpms (whether it's because it's drowned out by everything else or whether it goes away, I have no clue). The intake is replaced with a cone filter so that adds to the already existing catless dps and catback. Overall, car sounds mean! I think people think I'm a douche at intersections when I suddenly rev the engine. However, it's just me adjusting to the sensitive gas pedal and unforgiving clutch. lol

Still working on a few bugs. JHM sent a very conservative tune (too conservative) and the car is running a little lean. The car sounds even better with the supercharger (more flow through the exhaust I guess). Will upload video when it's all ready.

Axel, what AFR's are you seeing in the logs from a WOT run?

No idea (although the issue doesn't seem to occur at WOT. More like half to 3/4 throttle). It's very random and interim based. Happens at any gear, any speed, any rev but doesn't happen all the time. Someone else drove it for 10 minutes and didn't really feel much bogging. Obviously, I drive it a lot more and so I feel it often.

I also got these ECLs:

I'm guessing the primary O2's are faulty. What injectors went in when the tune and supercharger went in? Maybe we should continue this dialogue in your supercharger thread in respective forum.

That's what many people are suggesting. However, Jay from JHM seems to think it's the tune and I'm also not the first person to experience this after a JHM sc install (someone else in Cali went through the same thing and JHM simply tweaked the tune).

As for continuing the conversation in the other thread, sure :)

Well right now, I'm just waiting for JHM to do their analysis and ship out a corrected tune. They'll update their tune over time should they deem it necessary. You have to remember that the supercharger is powerful enough to blow the engine so it's not a matter of getting the most out of it, it's a matter of getting it just right.

Yeah, I'm definitely looking to keep the plates. Since the buyer is out-of-state, he won't need them!

As for the E30, I'm going to look to get a little maintenance done - I need to replace the power steering hoses. I need to do rear shock mounts on both sides, and am contemplating doing coilovers or sport springs and shocks. I'd like to get a short shifter, but really, the car is awesome as is. For as small of displacement as the 318 M40 motor is, it's a torquey little beast. I love it.

Cool man. I know a lot of people really like the M40. Seems to have something of a cult following. More than the M20 at least, since everybody seems to swap those with M50/S50s.

Still working on a few bugs. JHM sent a very conservative tune (too conservative) and the car is running a little lean. Emailed them some logs this morning so hopefully they can analyse them and tweak the tune and ship me a new chip. Will keep everyone updated. The car sounds even better with the supercharger (more flow through the exhaust I guess). Will upload video when it's all ready.

Spoke to JHM for a good long while (what awesome guys). Anyway, it's all good. They're sending out a new tune to clear the cell (tiny adjustment) but all is within normal operating parameters. I just need to finish breaking the clutch in. Trying to get some local Audi guys to come out on the 19th to put together some video footage.

Was a great week for the avant with one minor issue. Went to JHM to get piggie pipes done and their fantastic tune (what a difference their chip makes). Car sounds a bit meaner and feels a lot faster, although probably only ~15hp more, but it'e evident throughout the entire powerband.

That is quite possibly the best thing I have seen in a long time. Do you have any more videos? I bet it shut a few people up who were laughing at you with the roof box on when that thing tore down the strip.

My Avant today got new tires, stupid alignment tore the inside of the front wheels down to the cords. Annoying as I probably had another 15,000 miles of tread left on them. The thing is I still get some kind of weird vibration, need to figure out what to check next. Wheel bearings?

I filled her up with some Amsoil 75w90 and so far it is shifting as good as before if not better. It is hard to tell for sure since I really didn't have any shifting issues before. Now I think all my fluids are ready to take on Michigans crappy winter weather.

And the hottest mod on the street, coat hanger oil cap tie down...waiting on my new cap to arrive and was spraying oil all over the valve cover...anyone else had their cap break
internally? At first I thought it might be clogged up crankcase ventilation the increasing the pressure, but then I realized their is a vacuum on the topside of the engine

Next time you do the coat hanger mod, make sure the oil cap closes so it faces the proper way!

I have to tell you it sucked raising the coilovers but glad I at least have the option of raising lowering. Also coated the crap out of the coil-overs to protect them for a few months.

Did you use a rubberized coating on your coil-overs?

If so did you spray on the springs and everything?

For the Cig lighter the no power seem to be a fuse or bad wiring if that helps (I've Delt with that problem before)

I was thinking the same thing. Anybody know what fuse to check? I'm be kinda surprised if it was on it's own dedicated fuse and I haven't noticed anything else out, so I was going to look into the wiring. Gotta try and find those damn keys though.

Disregard that. Found the fuse - definitely blown. Too bad I don't have any spares on hand. [rolleyes]

Still need to find my radio keys to clean out all the pennies jammed in there

Installed the new JHM tune and winter tires.
The new tune seems to have helped a lot but it's not 100% yet. Will probably need more logs and another tune update.
8mm spacers were sufficient to clear the BBK so that was nice. Hate the heavy wheels though compared to my summer and lack of grip/softer sidewall but hey, it's winter...

Yeah, they finally let us on the highway but only the cars that had snow tires or chains on. Everyone else still had to wait longer. Luckily, I rented chains on my way up seeing as I was driving a rental.
Although I have to say it was a pretty rough storm.

Darn, I was hoping to play it off like I bought an R8 [;)]

Yeah, at first looked at importing a new one, then just figured it would be easier to buy that one (it's got 1000 miles). I've never been one to consider converted cars 'real' (I would have never considered my B5 a real RS4), but this thing was literally stripped down to the panels and rebuilt with the S4 parts by both GMG and Audi... interior, suspension, engine, tranny, brakes... everything.

It's really not as unique as the B5, but sorta is in a different way, and I LOVE the interior on the new cars. It'll be sitting at GMG for the next couple weeks getting some minor upgrades, then I'll do a proper thread. Pretty darn excited to start modding this thing!

Good for you man! So is what Fabryce told me true? First of its kind stateside? I have seen this thing live and in person and it really is something. Was at GMG a couple weeks ago to look at his B5 S4. Great guy and incredible shop - super chill and accomodating! Won't rain on your parade anymore...shhh. I snapped a pick of my Godson standing by it. And yah, the interior is absolutely sick! Also love the low profile integrated B8 roof rails (although they seem like they will be difficult to achieve roof clearance?).

It's a fully built S4. Was an A4 that's been converted. It's not grey market. And it is the only one of it's kind...for sure. With the interior upgrades, it's unlike most Audis as well.

The roof rails are like all other A4/A6/Q5/Q7. There will be no issues with any sort of box, cross bars, or clearance!

Put stock exhaust on and switch my Wheels from my ultrasport onto it to pass inspection. Finally got all that shit straight and passed.

You had to change wheels for inspection, or just for winter?

Its too late, but trust me I thought about that. I was also kind of tired of how overly loud the exhaust was. Don't get me wrong, it was sooo mean sounding and awesome, but I'm too old for that now I think I've grown up at the old age of 22 [:p]

On a new note, I also discovered today that my clutch is slipping waaaay worse than I thought [headbang]

No the tires on the ultrasport are almost brand new. The tires on the avant are worn badly from camber not being correct from the previous owner.
