Ok put on A4Efforts Ti wheels and got me some Hankook EVO12 rubbers. Lookin better. Next suspension to get out of this 4x4 mode.
These hide the dirt well, I'm diggin it big time. For some reason it's hard to photograph Quartz, it looks so much better in person to me.

Yea! Looks great

I washed mine, again. Re-seated my front wheels and spacers, too. I have just a 'lil bit' of shimmy right at 60 mph, but it's much better than it was before.

do you need a pressure washer or just a hose?

BCsniper
06-03-2011, 06:30 AM
If you want the awesome foam like you see in the DD threads then you really need a pressure washer. I have the foam gun for a regular hose and it's not exactly spectacular. I mean it's cool and it does what it's supposed to, but the car isn't absolutely covered in foam like you see on DD's pics, mostly just cause there;s a lot more water than foam when you use a regular hose

basically, get a pressure washer if you want to do it right/look cool.

Started removing the stock downpipes from my car to install my new 3" ones. Man, getting the OEM DPs is a major pain in the ass! And one of the studs snapped off the turbo too. [headbang]
I feel ya! Were you on your back or did you have a lift? I did my TIP DP's (curvy pipes, no room around the huge tranny) on the ground, it was the worst job yet on this car.

The A3? It actually does. Really fun to drive. Although after driving Quattro for so long I can REALLY tell its FWD. Perfect for the lady though. She came from an 04 A4 Avant 1.8 with Tiptronic and hated it. She felt the Avant couldnt get out of its own way... so she is really happy with the manual 2.0. I think with a tune it would be even better. (obviously [>_<]) Although the way shes driving it around already Id be scared to get it chipped. haha! [o_o][drive]

Yeah that's the one. I have had a couple B5 S4's stage II+ but always wanted something newer but just felt like the power to performance was not that great for the B6/B7's. I'd seen the car for sale but it was out of my price range. I seen he lowered his price a couple weeks ago so i called him drove it made an offer and didn't buy the winter tires. I told the seller i would not tell anyone what I paid for the car but all i can say is I got a great deal on a B7 Avant much less for this car.

i used 2 rolls of 3M tape on it lol, it's holding pretty well except this one corner where i didn't put enough, the wind is kinda getting under and lifting. im gonna find some epoxy and a syringe to inject it under. If iwere to do it again, i suggest putting some epoxy from the get go w/ 3M.

OK, so got to go to a meet @ Applebee's in Warwick @ 8pm.. ( first time ) So I Have decided I have had enough of the chrome trim around the front radiator grille. fairly easy to pop off the car and equally so to pop the chrome bezel off, tabs are tricky but with a flat head screwdriver, prying from one side to the other carefully it was easy and no broken tabs. I was going to keep the license plate off but those horrendous screw holes into the bumper solved that idea....Have to take pics will edit and add in a bit.

So after removing the grilles and separating the chrome outer trim I installed the grilles back in to see if indeed this was the look I wanted

http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu294/MarcJM/ef8cac40.jpg

Grilles outer trim ready to sand with 150 and 400 then paint
Have decided blacked out rings are too much, at least for the time being

http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu294/MarcJM/9d3a2e27.jpg

Will have to find a more appropriate before and after matching pics...

With both Grille assemblies reinstalled

http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu294/MarcJM/d77edc25.jpg

Finally with all Grilles, LP and detailed and ready to go to the meet.

http://i657.photobucket.com/albums/uu294/MarcJM/e1101a81.jpg

will have to find a better before pic to add, only took the afternoon to repaint the grilles as well as detail the QuaVant.

At the moment it is still somewhat of a work in progress since I am working on getting the stock cover to not rattle when it is closed. The cover closes just fine so everything in the back appears stock, which is exactly what I was going for. Basically I made a 7x7x7x14 inch trapezoid for the top and bottom pieces and then made it 18 inches tall. It fits perfectly in that corner with the XM box and all of the other parts relocated. I simply tucked the XM box up and behind the little metal flap next to where it was already and used 3M double sided tape to hold it in. Then I dynamatted the entire corner including the "fart flap" so it wouldn't keep rattling when bass would hit. The sub is a 10 inch Pioneer shallow sub and I think it provides plenty of bass for my taste. It sounds very crisp and gives you solid kick drums and bass notes for lots of different music, but never really gets boomy. I have it paired with an Apline PDX-5 amp mounted where the Bose stuff was on the other side. I used the Polk DB6501's in the doors and after some tweaking with my external eq I have it dialed in perfectly. The box fit so well in that spot that all I really did to secure it was use some egg crate style foam on the bottom and all sides that would be touching metal. Then I made a small metal brace and attached it to the car using one of the bolts that came off of the Bose Box from the other side. I put the speaker protector on there just to be sure when the stock panel was fitted it wouldn't end up touching the speaker. Once I find a good way to make that panel not rattle I will post up my solution.

Hit me up with any questions or build plans as I would love to help you guys out.

Wiring and tape job on the sub protector is a bit shoddy, but since you never see it I don't really feel the need to clean it up too much.

Here is mine, similar to evo_ski, except my box has different dimensions as I do not have a shallow sub. For now the XM box is just sitting on the top, its not gone anywhere in the couple weeks I have had the box in there. At some point I plan to fabricate a grill to replace the original panel, just trying to find the best material to make it with at the moment. Will probably get some perforated metal from Lowes and shape it to the door, then cover it in carpet to match the trunk. I might also put something under the box to raise it up a little, the picture makes it look like the speaker is touching the trim, but it is not, however when the door is on it does touch. So for now I leave the door off.

The amp and processor are just loose behind the door on the passengers side, I need to tidy up the wiring some and secure them in there a bit better. But, for now they have not caused me any problems so not too worried about it.

No, its more of a mid level sub, its an 11KV.2, I have had it for a few years now. Was running it under the seat in my F150 before putting it in the Audi.

Since we are showing subs

That looks good, is there as much space behind those panels in the B8 Avant as in the B8 Sedan? I took off one of those panels when I had a loaner 2011 sedan and there was a huge amount of room back there (obviously once the stock amp etc would be removed).

This is behind the left side panel. The silver amp on top is the B&O, then the black amp in the middle is for my sub, then under that is the computer/hdd for the Nav and jukebox, MMI, etc.

This is behind the right panel. There is a bit more room behind it because the BCM module is forward of the panel and the fuses are down low, but it is all taken up by the sub box. I should take a picture of the box.

Did you use that PVC elbow...? I would be concerned about the pvc thickness in relation to heat deformation. You may not have a problem with a thicker walled same diameter elbow but that one may cause you problems.
I would be wary and keep a close eye on it ( hopefully not while driving ) for possible deformation.

yup used that pvc elbow... and all the heat wrap went on it for the same reason you mentioned... i will keep a close eye on it tho im not done yet, still working on a heat shield (thinking of doing something with water inside of it) and the elbow will get more wrap on it...
i did a few 60-100 pulls after about 15 min on the highway and then pulled over and the elbow definitely gets hot but not to the point of melting yet lol

one thing is for sure, the throttle sounds ten times more deep now... if it wasnt my car i would think it had aftermarket exhaust setup....

Not to sound like the neighborhood alarmist again but if I remember correctly ( I'm familiar with PVC piping, having installed multiple septic systems, french drains and quite a few other resourceful applications )
However that elbow's wall thickness is perhaps 1/8th" whereas the next size is at least 3/16th.
I was thinking that over time PVC has a tendency to become brittle depending on the PVC's chemical composition. Question is would the extreme heat that our Audi engine's generate accelerate that kind of failure.
I would not like to imagine small pieces of PVC being sucked up into the intake.....

you dont sound like the neighborhood alarmist lol, i always appreciate some knowledge... i never knew pvc tends to fail (thought it was the "life time" solution to replace metal piping) its good to know... i was planning on going to a muffler shop and see if they can fabricate that elbow for me, but i wasnt in a hurry... now it seems like i shouldnt push it too far so yea good call...
i already had a failure at one intake camshaft and 3 lifters which almost killed my engine and took me like 2 months to fix (took my sweet time doing it) so yea i wouldnt want to even think of pvc pieces in my intake....
i wish i had a different material to work with (i couldnt find anything for the diameters im working with...)

I would look into the thicker walled PVC, or there is also a certain grade of piping that has to meet much higher requirements as far as compression and other criteria's that certain code's require ( used for underground installs ) . Let me do a bit of research today, I have to go look at a new project for a client in Newport, at the same time ( today ) I have to return to the milling house and submit measurements for stair rails, newel and balusters for a Queen Anne Shingle style house. I love it, I'm busy again.....

That is 4" PVC if i guess correctly...?

+10...In a shop or your garage, hoist that Avant with a hydraulic floor jack. They're less than a hundred bucks at any Napa or Auto Zone, after hoisting place the car on Jack stands, another 50 or so.
for less than a $150 you will be safe.

I had the widow maker slip on me a couple years ago when attempting to change a flat. It was in January, in the middle of a snowstorm. I thought I had placed the Avant on a good spot in the driveway entrance of a closed commerce. Jacked it up, went to the back to get the spare out of the well, always fun when it's a 17x7.5 only to feel the car shifting. The shift jammed the hoist against the panel, ( gouging it ) the wheel was already off,
I had to call for service, 2 hours later (since they were overwhelmed with people who should not have been out driving) they hoisted me up and I was back on the road.
Luckily, I did not get injured, two months later, my panel got replaced when a little old man pulled into the parking space next to me and side swipped both front and rear driver's side doors. I got to watch it just as I was exiting the sandwich shop....That was an expensive lunch... ( for his insurance )

I actually had to change the jack to a newer one. The original had a curved bottom and we had the car up on it and it tipped. so there we were holding the car up so it wouldn't fall onto the allroad. do you know how hard it is to lift a car. While someone els puts the wheel back on?

Well, not technically today, but yesterday we fitted her with the Stasis catback.

Initially, I was scared the tips would stick out too much from pictures/videos floating out there of the same set up but I'm very happy with how it turned out!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/sundance2108/tips.jpg?t=1312834332

I went with a Magnaflow catback and now I'm stuck with the B6 single tips on a b7. I absolutely love the sound of the magnaflow but I do wish they had made a b7 version with dual tips instead of just the b6 with singles. Research on finding new tips hasn't been fruitful. Your tips looks nice.
Also installed the JHM shifter linkage and bushing while getting the downpipe installed.

Tomorrow will be intake spacers, jhm short shifter and rs4 upgraded rear sway bar. Most likely won't have time for the LWCP and snub mount.

One of my favorite B7 S4 exhausts! Nice work. The B7 STaSIS setup was what originally led me to get mine when I heard they were in development. Believe it or not, the B6 and B7 setup doesn't sound the same! I'm still very happy with mine, though, as I have one of the original five catbacks they developed...call me a product tester.

Thanks Axel, Does your setup look weird because of the cutouts not being filled (post some pics!)? After looking at your taillights again, I decided that I really really dig them. They're added to the list :)

Thanks Dan, wow you were an early adopter huh? I'm glad I'm happy with the sound since I only heard the setup through youtube vids. How long did it take for your exhaust to break in?

I only drive about 5k miles per year...so it's hard to quantify when it exactly broke in, but I will tell you that I started considering down pipes or piggies about a year ago...which tells me it probably took less than a year. LOL

Nah, I think it settled down pretty quick, at least to my ears. I still love it when I get on it, though, and I get a lot of compliments.

^ APR Stealth exhaust? I have the same and love it...not obnoxiously loud.

I hope you had the end cans straightened out and aligned to fit the tips in the valence [up]

Billy Boat, but same as APR Stealth, and that's just a test fit, nothing was bolted in when that photo was taken. Notice the left side being held up by a stand.

They look even better in person :)

As for the tips, they do look a tad weird as they're more to the outside than centered in the wide gap (and even if they were centered, the wide gap is weird. Looks like I'll probably need custom tips. Something to add to the list. What probably bothers me more is the slight "rice" look to it. Bah, I'll probably have something figured out in the next month or two.

I mated my Billy Boat with the Magnaflow for a B6 on a B7. It was short by a few inches and needed an extension (but I was expecting it as I had read about it). I love the sound of the two together.

I'm hoping you make Avantoberfest, since you're in San Mateo. It's just a quick jaunt up the road for you to Tahoe (ok, semi-quick! LOL).

The S4. It's just a thought...but one I've been having for a while. The kicker is what would follow it.
