Only way to go is tucked in bar ends, I think Neil's are Thule but ......

Mine also were cut to fit, it only took about Two self inflicted stabbings to cut them down....
Even cut down I could fit 4 bikes and wheels, top loader box has never appealed to me which is why I had an Avant.

my reasoning behind getting one, once I get an avant, is so I can store skis/boards up top and safely while having friends below...also I'm planing on getting a roofbox that can hold beer so I can use it for work to transport cases as well but want to have my bike on top as well, so wide bars = EVERYTHING I WANT ON TOP!
however Kneels and your avants do look goood

it's all good, I sell beer, I don't drink and drive, no worries. and I've had one to many friends who have had their open ski racks fail and find their boards/skis behind them on the highway while doing like 80-90.

Home brew?
got my first batch in the primary fermenter right now, just a kit german lager I got from christmas. it's a new project of mine as I'm trying to switch into the craft brew devision, technically I mostly sell wine right now, and in the hood so by wine I mean M/D 20-20 and Gin and Juice. but one day I'll sell all the good stuff. Because I love Beer so much more then wine.

Ahhh...Makes sense, however for me it's traveling with at least 4 pairs of skis and sometimes 5 or 6... 2 pairs of GS's and 2 pairs of SL's, they all go in a ski bag, the type that you see coaches and racers use.... Then strapped to the racks on top.
I never strapped skis uncovered to the rack's ski attachments which are only good for 1 to two pairs of skis ... which upon arrival are then in need of a tune ...... ( nothing like sandblasting your edges on the way to the hill )
That's the ( now gone ) Avant, will be in the market for one once again before next winter.....

I called a bunch of shops to get a quote for some maintenance that I'm too unskilled/lazy to do.
Timing Belt - $850
Tranny Fluid - $120
Carbon Cleaning - $250-300
Not terrible for shop prices, but I wish I knew someone local who did work on the side.

You gotta get all the wheels plus the side of the car then you know your doing it right. We did that with our truck one year by sliding just a little to much and running into a snow bank sideways.

New looooooooooonnnggg overdue tires. My alignment is out, the car pulls to the right with the steering wheel centered, pulled the old tires off and on the right side front and rear both showing cords/steel. They looked like someone took a knife and cut about an inch of the width of the tire off.
Suffice to say I am very happy to be rid of them, and with a 110 mile commute will be booking an alignment ASAP.

Happy monday gents and ladies!
So my mother is looking for a new car since her V70 wagon is going to croak. She's drove wagons for the past 25 years. We went to VW, Subaru, Honda, and MB (pre-owed) and so far she likes the C300 4Matic best (surprise, surprise). However I didn't take her to Audi or BMW. No BMW because I am personally just not a fan of their cars (with the exception of a few) and the interior "business." And the thought didn't click with me until last night, I should get her into a B8 Avant. Anyone wanna help?! [:D] CPO is a must and it should be within the Tri-State area.

Yes. B6 has aero wipers and can only use Oem blades. We can use any blade that advance/autozone carry.

Apparently yes there is a difference; there's no mounting hook on the B6s. On the B5s, there was the hook which was then secured by the blades locking clasp.
I didn't know this and thought it was a similar design to my old B5.

Still a pain in the ass having to order a part as simple as wiper blades, when it would not have been difficult for Audi to retain some form of standard mounting.
I don't know about the B6 but on the B7 you most definitely do NOT have to use OEM blades.
If I remember correctly, Amazon is a good place to pick up Bosch wipers for the B7.

This is true, when the time comes to trade/sell my B7 I can get anything I want (we now have a better family vehicle). So, I have been looking at all kinds of cars, but I keep thinking of just trading up to a B8 Avant. They look good, for daily driver duty are plenty fast enough for me, practical, decent MPG for a commute etc.

I've done both rear bearings. The total cost for each was about $60 ish 55 for the bearing and 5-10 for the use of a press at the local car quest. We just took the hub off and brought it to them.

Took the Avant in for 95k miles scheduled maintenance + general checkup today. It appears bushings are all shot; so it is either full control arm kit refresh (preferred) or just replace bushings (cheaper). Brake-job (pads/fluid flush) next.
Anyone else having had to deal with this? Feedback from others would be appreciated. I hear you can just get replacement bushings (Meyle, etc) and swap out the damaged ones. Worth the time/effort?

FWIW, my windshield has carbon ceramic "Air 80" tint on it. It's to keep UV and heat out, and it's completely clear. I would actually recommend it. You wouldn't believe how much heat gets in the car that way. You also all realize I'm not big on tint anyway, with 50% on the sides/rear, so you can best believe I wouldn't overdue it on the windshield.

I got some interesting factoids about my Avant today from AoA. Out of curiosity, I contacted customer service to get some info on the number of 2007 Audi A6 3.2 Avant quattros shipped/sold in the U.S.
940 MY 2007 Audi A6 3.2 Avant quattros were sold in the US.
54 MY 2007 Audi A6 3.2 Avant quattros with PHANTOM BLACK PEARL EFFECT exterior were sold in the US.
30 MY 2007 Audi A6 3.2 Avant quattros with PHANTOM BLACK PEARL EFFECT exterior and EBONY interior were sold in the US.
1 MY 2007 Audi A6 3.2 Avant quattros with PHANTOM BLACK PEARL EFFECT exterior, EBONY interior and the sales option codes listed on your vehicle were sold in the US.
They were even gracious enough to send me the window sticker; my Avant came loaded with Technology/S-Line sport/Convenience packages with msrp just shy of 60k.
All in all, I am loving this car; I think it was a good find... [cool]

Had some condensation in the passenger headlight, so I did a little investigation and fixed it. It turns out that when I had the front end removed to replace the serpentine belt, tensioner, and fan, the turn signal light bracket wasn't correctly locked into place, and as a result it popped off the back of the light housing [facepalm].
I used a hair dryer (with the heating element turned off) to blow air into the inside of the housing to dry it out. I ended up taking out the high beam bulb too so I could get air to flow through the housing.
Everything is back together and sealed up now... hopefully.

Installed yellow fog light bulbs, picked up a set of Nokya H11 bulbs, they had good reviews on here, but are more of a brighter yellow than I had hoped. I will see when I next drive them in rain/fog whether they offer improved visibility or not, if they don't then I will either try adding Lamin-X film, or look into swapping them out for Hoen's, or if I can convince myself to spend the $50+ on them, some PIAA bulbs.

Hello there. I'm not on this forum regularly but thought I would start participating given that I'm a fellow Avant owner. The mod bug has bitten and I just had installed this past week a JHM solid short shifter, Apikol snub mount & 034 bracket, JHM lightweight crank pulley, and 034 adjustable rear sway bar/end links.
It's only the second day driving with the mods and it's taking some getting used to. The car definitely rides and drives different. Feels like the car is getting up to 4-5K RPMs quicker (but might just be in my head). Driveline lash has been significantly reduced from the snub mount which is great. The short shifter takes the most getting used to but I think I'm liking it.
Getting some vibration at low RPMs (around 1K). Reading up on the forums it sounds like this may be a common occurrence with the aftermarket snubs. Might have to go back to my mechanic to see about making some adjustments.

The snub mount is the best mod for the money IMO. IT'll break in, the first time I started both my old S4 and my current A4 it shook the car like Michael J. Fox (too soon?) but after a few days its barely noticeable. [up]

I assume there are probably many different things that can cause vibration. I know mine is a result of the mod because it didn't do it before the install.

That's just ABS system working like it should. Shouldn't worry about it. ( That is unless you have changed your brake system and not dialed it in ).
I once had a discussion with an operator who was sending a tow truck and I had to insist that it had to be a platform and I would wait ( where else was I going [rolleyes]) longer since everyone was occupied during the snowstorm.

All the Avants belong to Dave Chang, aka forum member DxC. The Pearl Avant is from a member of QW, wrinkledpanties. You could probably ask him about that, I don't think he'd have a problem so long as he didn't have to wait for you to sell things to pay him for that labor. It's worth asking him about it.

I suggest Not using alcohol, since it has a drying effect and may cause the leather to split from it's use.
Instead try Goo Gone, I have used it on everything from removing stains on egyptian cotton shirts to my cars interior.
It's citrus based and removes anything grease based.
Follow it up with a damp sponge and warm soap and water, dry the leather and then apply a Meguiar or Mother's leather conditioner.
Both also make a leather cleaner but they are so expensive and Goo Gone does the same thing for much less.

LoL I'm not saying you need to make a salad, just a little bit of wet vinegar and some warm water. I'd be scared of the goo be gone, my personal experience is it can't take the black out of the leather once it dries or even leave the alcantara a bit oily. You don't want any oils on there. I also did some research and some say using vodka is actually a great cleaning tool, sounds weird I know but a lot of people have had great success.

I did say to follow it up with a sponge and mild soap and water.....
Goo Gone is applicable but like any strong cleaner you have to use it sparingly and you cannot leave it on indefinitely. But it should remove those residues without harming the leather. The problem is that you cannot scrub the leather with either abrasives or brushes as that will just drive the soil further into the leather...
Another choice and perhaps the best would be to go to a Tac shop and ask what they would recommend for fine leather saddle cleaning ...

Yeah my wife worked for this company called Ligne Roset (super modern and expensive) anyway they had a sofa that was made completely of Alcantara and it was in there showroom so it got dirty a lot and they were told to use rubbing alcohol. Oh and it was red and since its a man made material it doesn't fade or change color. I think it's made of plastic fibers.
But yes I would be very careful to not get it on the leather. So warm water or pretty much anything should work. Ill ask her some more about it.

I use Ivory/Dove, warm water, and elbow grease on our leather couches, but I think saddle soap would be the way to go on a car seat, seeing as it's made for ass holders... And use a buffing brush, like for shoes, when you're done.

Got some info on it from Audi of America (as I'd seen others had done)
According to our vehicle data file, the following represents the amount of vehicles produced in the United States with same installed options of your vehicle at the time of manufacture:
· 133- Model Year 1991 Audi 200 Avant quattros were sold in the U.S.
· 12- Model Year 1991 Audi 200 Avant quattros with Lago Blue Metallic exterior paint were sold in the U.S.
· 9- Model Year 1991 Audi 200 Avant quattros with Lago Blue Metallic exterior paint and Platinum Leather interior were sold in the U.S.
· 1- Model Year 1991 Audi 200 Avant quattros with Lago Blue Metallic exterior, Platinum Leather interior and the sales option codes listed on the vehicle were sold in the U.S.
I'd always heard the number of 200 20v avants quoted at 144, but it would seem there were only 133!

Exactly! And it sounds like "pistop?" with his Italian accent. Those are my two favorite characters in the whole movie.
Oh I know, I was just messin when yoi pic'd it. My kid LOVES the movies and has a whole collection of the toy cars.
I get to play Guido when we play "Cars" and race around the living room.

I got my first COPliment last night!
So I pull up to a gas pump at my favorite local watering hole, hop out and start doing all the credit card bullshit with the gas pump. I'm about to pick my octane when I notice a police cruiser pull up infront of my car. I glance over and the cop had rolled down his window and goes, "Nice Imola." I was soo shocked, my face went from this: http://fi.somethingawful.com/images/smilies/emot-geno.gif to this: http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-haw.gif and I immediately blurt out, "You know what this is?! That's awesome!"
So we end up bullshitting for a solid 10 minutes about my car and his (turns out he has a silver B5 S4), what coilovers I'm running because he's thinking of getting a set for his car, and what exhaust I have, if its tuned, that he knows Rich from EPL and so on and so forth. Turns out to be a really cool guy and he also owns an E90 M3. So he leaves because he got a call from dispatch, which means I can actually pump my gas now.
I fill the car up and and screwing the gas cap back on and when I look up to walk around to the drivers side of the car, the cop has come back and is just sitting there next to me. I was a bit shocked so I go, "Hey man, whats up?" He leans over and goes, "Listen I didn't want to leave but I had to respond to a call. I really wanted to follow you out of here and listen to the ASP exhaust!" My face has to look this dumb: http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-aaaaa.gif I literally could not believe what I heard. So he says that he hasn't heard an ASP exhaust and that he wanted to follow me down the road for a minute to hear it. So we pull out of the gas station and I rip through 1st gear.
Now, I couldn't see in the cop car so I can't 100% confirm this part, but I'm pretty sure this is an accurate reenactment of what went on in his cop cruiser when I wrung out 1st: http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-awesome.gif So the cop pulls up next to me, give me a thumbs up and a honk and took off.
Consider my mind blown in the most awesome way possible. http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-psypop.gif

I assume there are probably many different things that can cause vibration. I know mine is a result of the mod because it didn't do it before the install.
Did he lightly snug it, attach the core, start the engine and then tighten the snub in it's natural spot. There is some play available, and it needs to naturally 'center' itself, if you will. If you can synthesize what I'm saying, I think that it's just got a pressure point, and simply loosening it, starting the engine, and then kill it and retighten will solve the issue.

I'll go as far to say most cops are not dumb assholes, but most people's experience with the police is when you're getting a ticket, or hearing about police misconduct in the news. I've had two encounters with police in the past 10 days, and both were courteous and professional. (And no tickets received.[:D])

I'll agree with this. As with anything, it's the the asshole minority that gives the rest of them a bad name/image/reputation.

Yesterday i paid a $525 ticket for speeding. Am i pissed off o had to pay this, am i mad i got caught? Yes, i am, but the only person i can blame is myself. The cop who pulled me over was just doing his job.
I don't understand why people break the law then get pissed off for getting caught, if you break the law, you should be prepared for the consequences.
I love watching the repo and ticket shows. The people get so pissed off at the person writing the ticket, or repossessing their car, yet they are the ones who didn't pay for their car, or parked in a no parking zone. Just makes me... [facepalm]

I don't think it's about hating cops because you like to break laws, I have 2 very good friends from HS that are now cops and one has a 1000whp Supra. It's the fact that some cops were abused in HS and take it out on everything and everyone. See I have a cop in my area who just wants to pull people over for anything possible, perfect example I got pulled over by this guy for my RS4 exhaust which is a oem system. He said that those 3 inch oval tips are not OEM and so on, I start a google search on my phone and show and even at that he wouldn't believe me until a second cop showed up and I showed him the same pics and he let me go. So most cops are cool but there are those few out there that just are out to get you even when you are following all the rules. Tint tickets is another issue, your state has certain laws and if you choose not to follow them then the police have every right to haggle you.

It was a ridiculous interaction and I wish all of you one day have an interaction with a cop like I did.

A large majority of them are not dumb assholes.
If I get pulled over, I pull off the road into a parking lot or some area that isn't a road with cars flying by so the cop feels more comfortable and not worried about getting side swiped by a dumb ass. I also immediately turn off my car and put the keys on the dash over the steering wheel and have both hands on the wheel. I greet them curiously and ask them how they are today. When they ask for registration I inform them that I'm going to reach into the glove compartment and get it, before I make any moves. Those few things go a really long way I've found.

I do this kind of stuff too, they seem to appreciate it. I got pulled over at 2:30am once and went so far as to put both of my hands out the window as he walked up to the car. He asked why I did that, to which I replied "It's 2:30am and I don't want to get tazed, I figure you knowing where my hands are is a good start." He laughed and said "Fair enough." and the rest of the interaction was a little more light hearted. I still got a ticket, but I feel like the guy wasn't a total dick about it. Especially because I was going almost 100 and he wrote the ticket for 73 in a 55.

Also, roll down your windows and turn on the dome light. They like to be able to see inside when approaching the car.

^Not sure how I forgot to mention those points as well. They also work.
The one thing I do do, because I HATE what they do, is when they shine the flood light on my mirror. I angle the glass down so it's out of my eyes and not making me blind for the rest of eternity.
