The sedan looks in better shape than the avant!
both look fantastic though

really rare to see these vintage in great shape much less at all!

nice pics man

Thanks man! The Sedan is in much better shape than the Avant. I have also had the Sedan for 6 years and have put a lot of TLC into it. The Avant's pearl paint is tired like most vintage Audi's but I plan to have it wrapped in a pearl white color to make it look decent. Just maintain it as my DD/winter car. It'll be fun as a mid 12 second sleeper too :)

Love that!
Too bad the 8.5's don't look this good

I always want to get that grille but CA requires a front plate, so there is no point...

kdaffy
09-24-2014, 01:34 PM
MA requires the front plate too...i have zip ties and the plate at the ready with the excuse that "I just put the grill on" just in case...in MA its not a insurance negative and a small fine, so I guess I'm living dangerously with that risk...small price to pay for the look I guess

We had the exact opposite experience. Even approaching full stiff it was harsh and rode like shit. We have them dead centered now and it's much more reasonable - about where our coilovers were as far as comfort

I'm thinking the problem is my much heavier motor. I have them maxed and I guess they ride perfect for the street. No way they would be very good for track though. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from air.

Hard to say. From my small amount of reading the 4.2 and the 2.0T only have about a 100lb weight difference. Granted that weight is right in the front of the car, but still. We are very happy with the ride and handling of our air ride. It's comparable to our coilovers were. Granted, it's not track car, but I have no issues with spirited driving on the street.

Hmm I have no interior right now. Maybe that has something to do with it. Who knows. It's probably me. I'm used to all my friends cars with racelands. That's probably the problem right there.

If that's accurate, that's a lot heavier and hanging over the nose makes it worse.
But, the 4.2 handles pretty good from my impressions

More Avant:

I got some neat production data from Audi of America on my Avant:

For VIN WAUHE5448MN019710 there were 133 1991 Audi 200 Quattro WGN 20V vehicles sold in the United States. Of those, 25 were produced in pearl white metallic exterior and 13 of those featured graphite leather interior sold in the US.

So last night I spent some time down in the garage. Did the following:

- Oil Change/Filter Change. Its getting cooler out here and I am sure will drop sooner than later even more. So I went with Castrol 0W40 Syntec.
-New Windshield wipers.
-Rain-X all the Windows.
-Light detailing and cleaning interior.
-Discovered the Fuel Pressure Regulator hose that goes from regulator was unplugged on the side that connects to the rear of the engine. Fixed that. Surprised it drove like that.
-Seafoamed the car. I put about 1/3 in through that FPR line and let her sit for 15 than I drove about a mile. I know some might think "BS" or it doesnt help but honestly my car does feel slightly smoother and starts up a little easier.
- New NGK BKR7E plugs.
-Painted my Y-Pipe while it was still off the car. I went with some high heat temp paint. Its now "silver" a nice little accent to the engine bay.
-Repositioned my SSAC/FTG Motorsports Diverter Valves into the "upright position"
-New Vaccuum hoses for the DV's.

Wasted all morning cleaning up the wiper cowl and track its supposed to click into. It noticeably does for 2/3 of run but not passenger side third. Water is leaking in through pollen filter and into passenger side floor board. Such a chicken shit design.

I guess i need to try buying new cowl next but not holding out hope that will resolve either.

All tray drains are and were free n clear. Water escapes as fast as it enters out the bottom of car.

So frustrating

You kow what I did when I found my stuff to be leaking? Black duct tape to temporarily block and seal teh howl just ran it along the seam and made sure it was "low profile" enough. Looks seemless and no more water in my car. Temporary fix until I get another cowl tray.

Ive seen plenty at $200 but thats only for one. Why they sell them in half i dont get it?

Nvm: for those that need different size range front to rear. Those folks get hosed having to buy 2 different sizes because not enough adjustability

Anyway, this was easily the best price i found for new complete set.

Yeah I have a Thule alpine box and the claws in the front make contact with my sunroof.. Not ideal, but better on glass than paint. The rear bar is high enough that there is clearance

Whispbars are the jam. I love mine. You do have to get a bit creative when it comes you mounting attachments but nothing a trip to the hardware store can't solve.

I'll gladly take that trade off to have no extra wind noise and zero hit to the fuel mileage.

Speaking of Whispbars, I just installed mine. $313 is currently a good price if you ask me! They are $399 all over and the cheapest I could find was I believe $352 shipped. I watched a used set go on ebay 2 weeks ago for $323 shipped and I got my used (like new) set on ebay last week for $275 shipped.

Here is a quick crappy phone pic I took. I am using a cheaper Thule entry-level roof box I bought new 2 years ago. Right now it has 4 snowboards, snowboarding boots, helmets, gear etc packed in it. In the summer it fits a good portion of our camping stuff. It works well for my needs. No issues with mounting clearance.

I have the B8.5 whispbars on my allroad. Clearance is very tight when trying to mount a carrier, so much that I have two small indentations on the rear of the roof from my Yakima box. [headbang]

Wondering if I should just go ahead and get the higher clearance bars to alleviate the issue or file down the rear feet to allow for some more clearance...

We all switched to 2-blade rages. Had good pass throughs, shoot like field points, and left a 3 finger wide exit wound. Every deer taken only ran about 50yards.

Replaced cam follower, had to wait a week to receive it. And now my battery is completely dead and I'm completely puzzled. I have one of those electronic rust prevention thingies hooked up to the battery, that's the only thing I could think of why it could be drained .... But still, it's only been one week! Trickle charger won't even charge it. Could this be anything else but the battery?!?

RallyeBourne
11-03-2014, 06:11 PM
Nope, probably the battery. Keep in mind, the car itself drains the battery, just by keeping your settings. And as a battery ages, it's ability to hold a charge for extended periods declines. Also, a trickle charger is not meant to charge a dead battery. It's meant to maintain the charge the battery already has. That's why they are also called maintainers. Your nearest Pepboys will test and charge your battery all the way up for free.

installed the Ziza license plate LEDs and had issues with the super SOFT screws that hold the assemblies in.. i finally get them in (the heads are almost stripped) and they look great. this morning i start the car and get the beep the bulbs are out... and they aren't illuminated?! not happy.

anyone know where to get replacements screws? lowes, ace hardware etc had M3x10mm which was the right size, but the thread was way too fine.. i need a coarse thread. also any ideas why they would work fine last night when installed them and this morning not work? i didn't touch or even move the car.

Because all of the "error free" LEDs are garbage, and a gimmick. Get cheap LEDs and external resistors and you'll be fine for years

that's what i had done on my previous B7's and never had issues.. i figured i'd try the full assembly this time [headbang]

either way, i'm afraid to touch those screws again without getting a replacement set.. any ideas of a M3x10mm with coarse threading?

Nope, no idea honestly. But I agree they are shitty little screws. Check McMaster or someplace like that?

from the looks of it, this has likely happened before. You can tell by looking at this little stud that it has been welded at some time. I've never heard of this issue before. It's also surprising to me since this car came from Colorado previously and I wouldn't have ever thought it to have rust issues. Like I said, I'm not sure how it got damaged originally, but apparently somebody tried to weld this back in place once, and didn't do the best job. Now, several year later it has gotten corroded again and popped out of place. I am not looking forward to having to get this repaired.

They are OEM Audi available from ECS Tuning and probably dealers still stock these since they do fit the allroad. I got this set from a private seller. If you want part number I can post them. Also, see comments below.

How many times did you daydream and hope they accidentally installed a 3.0T motor? Ha ha!

I don't think they'll reject heat at all but they definitely shade the interior. My main goal was to reduce the glare and direct sunlight on the 3 year old when she's in the car. I have pretty dark tint (I forget the exact %) that I would describe as medium dark, lighter than limo. The tint does a decent job of heat rejection but bright sunlight still can cause glare which is why I got these shades.

They are perforated nylon material and I beleive they are made by a German company called Windesa and also known as Sonniboy. Visibibility is actually quite good although my tint makes it worse, obviously. The fit is quite good. The rear side windows require adhesive backed clips to be secure and stay in place if the windows are lowered but I just popped them in without the clips and they stay just fine for now. I'm not really big on using the clips.

I'll take some pics in daylight.

Very cool—I'm sure your little one will be much more comfortable now. Thanks for providing the company's information, I just checked out Windesa and they have fairly decent claims of temperature reduction. So, with the short time you've had them installed on your car, would you recommend them and/or think they're worth their list price of ~$250?

The issue for me is waiting and sourcing one. Mostly waiting because, DAMMIT I NEED IT NOW!

You can currently only legally bring in 4 months of production R32's to the states (Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov) all of with are the '89 model year. The deal is to find a car with a further out production month (so figure June of '90) purchase that car, then wait a bit to ship it over. It opens you to more cars to choose from and the prices are a good $3-4k lower. I have a few inquiries out to companies that deal in this specifically, so we will see where it goes over the coming months!

Today I finally uploaded my GoPro footage from my first track day up at Sonoma Raceway.......can't wait to get it back out there. I also finally took a pic of my new suspension setup so i'll throw that in here as well : Just OEM s-line suspension w/ b5 caps and 18" VMR 710s but a perfect setup for me in the city. Any lower and I would lose the bottom of my car everyday for all those "not low enough guys".....

I gave it a thorough, exhaustive, and very much needed detail. The paint was clay barred, polished, and waxed. I also conditioned the seats, dash, door panels, as well as shampooed the carpet and mats. And last but not least, I cleaned up that beautiful engine bay. [:)] Can't wait to see it out in the sun tomorrow!

I know I am about to ask some dumb questions. But, I have been curious on a few things.

I own a 2003 A4 Avant 3L. I was curious how much can be swapped between the various Avant models(2002-2008). I have been looking at Allroads and A6's for interior parts. I know I can use sedan parts as well from the b6/b7 models as well as the avant parts from b6/b7's.

Between the B6/B7 platform ( 2002-2008 ) much can be interchangeable. However this would be in the A4/S4 lineup, A6 is a wider car so most interior trim pieces will not fit. The Allroad should be fairly interchangeable but the best way to know is to reference the stock parts number. But the Allroad is kind of particular, as I consider the Pro's and Con's of either purchasing an Allroad or a 1.8T/2.0 or an S4 Avant. ( desperately needed for work )
As i have done if you are familiar at a dealership you can ask the parts person to download and print a schematic of the particular section and it's parts layout that you'd like to swap out.
A couple numbers may change but if tyne part looks exactly alike in the printout then it will work.
There are also certain VW parts that interchange with the B6/B7, another way of reducing costs. Especially with me and the S4 I'm always looking for an alternative OEM.

That said there are beneficial revisions from the B6 to the B7 as far as parts and all. One is definitely the wheel/hub bearing assembly. Coilpacks and other upgrades are a plus for the B6.

Damn thanks for the great info. I have always been curious. I was curious if the A6 seats can fit in the A4, as well as the door cards really. I am the same as you when looking for the Alternative OEM parts. Great thing is I plan on doing things like the B7 center console swap, steering wheel(3 spoke), and wheel/hub bearing when it comes to it.

I assume you also have that wonderful 4 spoke steering. It's not that the 4 spokes bother me but that the wheel itself, more specifically it's overall diameter, thinner rim all makes me feel like it belongs on a Lincoln Continental, not a performance luxury. I do miss the 3 spoke of my previous B6. There are alternatives and I think one is the TTRS wheel. Issue is the controls that the 4 spoke is optioned with.

Ya I have the big 4 spoke platinum wheel. I agree it feels like it should be in a Lincoln car. The avant is going to be the cheaply modified one in terms of using stock parts from other cars lol. I have a B7 I need to finish and looking at getting in to a S5 within the next two years.

The door cards from an A6 or allroad (based on the A6 platform) will not fit. The seats might, but you're better off sticking with the B6/7 parts, which bolt right up.
