Into the sig, this goes.

Ha ha, excellent.

As everybody has said, most cops are cool, but there are those couple that are douchebags for no reason. Those are the ones that give cops a bad name. And being polite and courteous goes a very long way. That and not driving like an asshole in the first place. [>_<]

^Not sure how I forgot to mention those points as well. They also work.

The one thing I do do, because I HATE what they do, is when they shine the flood light on my mirror. I angle the glass down so it's out of my eyes and not making me blind for the rest of eternity.

I think enthusiasts are more likely to custom order a car with the options they want, and then those cars are more likely to stay within the enthusiast community. When you're starting with an already low population like Avants in the US, I'm not surprised to see so many "1 of 1s."

here in NY you would sitting in JAil. 30+mph over is now reckless driving. I got lucky a few months back. officer was pacing us as we did a 60-120 pull. Last he saw said "we were at 90mph". No radar so i guess had no proof. After sitting along hwy for almost and hour and 10 officers later we were let go for 10 over the limit. Honesty and good behavior sometimes works.

50mph over is the max in Vermont, which is what i was at. The cop originally said i was clocked at 118 when he pulled me over, then said 115 later. I got super luck, i was about 3 hours away from anyone who could pick me up, and he caught me while i was slowing down. I know it is definitely reckless, but there was literally no one on the road, and i was by myself.

Did he lightly snug it, attach the core, start the engine and then tighten the snub in it's natural spot. There is some play available, and it needs to naturally 'center' itself, if you will. If you can synthesize what I'm saying, I think that it's just got a pressure point, and simply loosening it, starting the engine, and then kill it and retighten will solve the issue.

Thanks for the recommendation. I think I read this before on a different forum. Looks like another trip back to the shop. Do you know if the front bumper still needs to be removed to just loosen and retighten?

20 over in the DC Metro Area will land you a wreckless driving ticket which will cost you mucho doll hairs and eventually your license. 21 over will land you in jail. That said, EVERYONE goes 20 over most of the time, so as long as you're in traffic you're fine. It's when you're all by yourself that you're at your weakest.....

The price is pretty decent, especially for the miles. It's a non-S-line car with 3G MMI and backup camera. Interior color wouldn't be my pick, but most probably wouldn't care. Factory warranty is 4 years/50k miles, but I'd want to know its original in-service date to be sure how much time was left.

One of my favorite things about car forums (specifically, model-specific sub-forums) is how 99% of the people on them think they're driving the Great White Hope. Fuck, man... Hop on over to the fucking... I dunno... Fucking Cobalt SS forum, or some shit. Almost everyone there blows a goddamned load when they see another one in the wild, and talks about how awesome it is to have some rare car that most people don't have.

It's like the Saab kids getting all nuthappy with that whole "faster from 60-90 than a Porsche 911" thing. I loved my Aero. It was awesome. It also was a, for lack of a better term, bucolic car that anyone and everyone could own.

weird.

I have seen two RS5s on the road, then 3 different RS4s - a black one a couple of times on my commute, a grey one on the highway, and a red one in cambridge. All in Boston area. During that time I have seen very few AVANT S-series. One black S6 avant, and a grey B6 s4 avant near cambridge. thats about it. But, I see B8 S4s and S5s a TON!

Its not the fact that an S4 avant is rare that I like it so much. I just thought for a long time about what car I like and want to buy (as my first car) and realized that I wanted a sportwagon. Then I realized I liked the audi ones the most because of both looks and performance.

I really want to pick that thing up. At $11k, that seems like a pretty darn good deal. Then again, I know about as much about BMW's as I do about programming a space shuttle.

LOL, their engines are worth their weight in gold , the transmission fails way to much.. I test drove two bmw wagons.. no turbo and 1 was awd.. neither had the power and take off that our audi's have...

no same just a cleaner look. I had to replace mine as it was broken from a freak hail storm last year.

Went skiing yesterday up in NY. We took my friends HEMI Jeep, good lord that thing drinks gasoline like it's no one's business.

In that note, I felt it was only necessary that I drove my Avant, which led me to the following idea: A north east Avant ski day. We could all meet somewhere about an hour or so from the mountain, cruise to it in our Avants, hang with some Avant Bro's for the day, drank beers, then go home or spend the night. Thoughts?

I fixed the lack of bass my stereo was putting out, it was always pretty crappy even for a non-bose system. Link to original thread: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/422160-Avant-factory-subwoofer-out-of-phase!

Here is what I did:

I had been searching around for some subwoofer upgrades due to the lack of bass my non-bose system has. I ran across the another guys issue/solution and I follwed the description in the thread above (my wire colors were different, mine are brown and red) in the connector seen below. I can say that the bass in the car has improved greatly, almost doubled i would say. I am not sure if my system was not right from the factory or it was an issue with the RNSE install that was done right after buying the car. But the bass in the door speakers is much better too. I changed the wire postions a couple times just to verify I was'nt crazy.

I did not want to cut anything so I just removed the pins from the connector and swapped the positions, this way I could change it back just in case...

Here are some pics of what is done:

It is the 2 wire connector that is to the right of the sub off by itself: (I took this pic after I switched the wire positions FYI)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/jeller/9CB7A68F-5645-4C3F-8888-FFEBA0B00156-79650-000018F2896247CE_zps35da4b52.jpg

Remove the connector and pry open the small black tab/door on the inlet of the wires seen in the pic. Next you will need two medium sized paperclips, insert them into the end of the connector as shown, push them in far enough that they will compress the tabs that hold the wire in, this may take a little practice if you have never done it before. This will allow you to extract the wire from the connector, the wire will just slide right out if you have the paperclips pushed in far enough to compress the tabs.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/jeller/638C8783-79E1-451F-BBDA-AAB4A95C4BB4-79650-000018F241C96D8D_zps7aee64c6.jpg

what did you use to pop the pins on the end of the wire out? I have been in that position before and spent about a half hour cussing while using a paperclip to do the job. It worked eventually but was not fun. I had to remove like a dozen of them.

I used one larger paperclip and one smaller paperclip acutally. It's always good to try to keep the wire seated into the connector as you push in the paperclip, this way you know you are pressing down the little tab that is holding it in there as the paperclip goes in. Really Really tiny drill bits can work too, but they must be pretty small.

You could be right...but the 20's on Lowroad's B8 (different altogdther I know) look sic.
Already have stock 18" so 19" are a given, but I just wondered if any B7 S4 Avant owners are running 20's and if so what, if any issues had to be dealt with...photos would be helpful.

19's already are going to give you a disadvantage in ride quality and handling. Having owned an B6 S4 Avant that was on 19's, I can speak from experience. I loved the look of the 19's, and would do it again, but would NEVER, EVER consider 20'. There's no need.

The B8 is built completely differently, and can handle 20's. Even still, the ride quality on 19's is lessened.

tankdeer
02-13-2013, 11:27 AM
What Dan said. If you see them side by side the B8 is massive compared to the B6/B7, and therefore can swallow 20's pretty easily. I have seen 20's work on a B7 Avant, and it looked damn good in fact, but not really any better than 19's would have.

They are French Oak, so I'm assuming they are Burgundy barrels. Although last use was Malbec I believe. And nope, one was spent and will (eventually [>_>]) be used as a rain barrel. The other is full of aging sour beer.

Picked it up from the shop. She was leaking coolant, AGAIN! I just had pretty much the whole coolant system replaced a couple months back and it turned out to be a warped aftermarket rear coolant flange. The shop ordered a OEM unit and replaced it free of charge. Hopefully this will take care of my coolant issues, it's like this this has a coolant curse! [:/]

Picked up my avant from the shop (window regulator was dead) & booked this weekends ski trip to VT! Looking forward to checking out Sugarbush & Stowe!

Does That mean you've never skied Boogersush or skied Stowe ??? I spent 7 years there.... The best skiing in Stowe is out of bounds, off of Chin-clip or there's always climbing up to the Notch above Profanity and Hellbrook and coming down the natural Half Pipes into the Notch. Mount Mansfield is all forestry land hence why you can ski off trail ( BUT NOT ALONE)
I strongly do not recommend doing this unless (1) You can ski and keep up with the Stowe Locals, most are former collegiate or various national team racers (2) You must go up with at least 2 locals since what I mentioned is potentially treacherous terrain and knowledge of how to get there and where to ski and most importantly where to exit ( the chute / half pipe becomes a sheer cliff into the Notch 3/4 down ) thus why knowledge is critical.
Stowe is the one ski area where it feels like a European ski town, you are always well received and there are more excellent skiers residing in the area then the rest of New England.
Check out MMSC junior roster and just hold on .....

I'm hoping that I will get to Stowe this year or if not that I can talk a few into lengthening Avantoberfest ( Kneel's excellent cruise ) to drive up to Stowe and over Smuggler's Notch
( have ridden My bike and raced over it long ago, memory is a painful 30 minutes of climbing at my anearobic threshold [eek] )

Cheers

Nope, never skied bush or stowe.

Moved to Boston last summer and so far I've been to
- Killington (prolly ~7 days worth). pros: has decent terrain for the east & enough tree stuff. convenient ~3hr drive for a day trip. cons: expensive, lacks sustained steep bits
- Sunday River ME (good, went in the early season tho)
- Jay peak (skiied here a bunch in college too): great mountain, nice woods, seems they close the lifts real often cuz of wind
- Gunstock (went once since its only 2hrs away): never, never, ever going there again.
- Loon, Waterville Valley, Mt Sunapee (long time ago)
- Smuggs (once two years back): went during college and got lucky with a big snowstorm that weekend!
- Tuckermans (went in college for april ski trip)

... thats prolly about it for NH, VT, & ME for me.

Really pumped about Stowe now that you say its like a European ski town!

Fixed broken vacuum hose that caused MIL to come on yesterday, plus multiple codes (P2006,2007,2070, Intake Manifold Tuning Valve stuck open/closed, etc ). The plastic piece was broken (off) at both ends ..[headbang].. probably due to recent frigid temps (or wear-n-tear).

If I had one day to ski/ride in the sierras it would be Mammoth or Kirkwood in Tahoe area. As far as deciding between those two, that's a toss up for me. I have been to Kirkwood much more than Mammoth but both are pretty top notch IMO.

Kirkwood is great...if you can get out there! With the big dumps, you're lucky if 88 isn't closed over the Spur. I almost don't think you can go wrong with any of the Tahoe resorts, to be honest (I grew up there, and lived there for 18 years, I'm an expert - LOL!).

Relative to your comments about Flagstaff, I love the area. Had a job opportunity there, but it didn't pan out. I really wish it had. Would love to escape Southern California!

This snow year has been weird. Was in Tahoe for Christmas and New Years, and had more powder than I knew what to do with. It was downright amazing. A couple days I was finding waist deep stashes in the trees. Nuts.

Headed out to Colorado on Saturday. Been an annual trek for the last five years (usually multiple times). Fortunately, they've been getting some solid storms, and are supposed to continue with that while I'm there. Fingers crossed.

Ya. A few decent storms on some heavy traffic days. I went skiing once this season on Christmas here local. Was OK.

Crazy thing about Christmas - > New Year in Tahoe? No one there. No one on the mountain. No lines. Endless powder. I was tracking up Mott and Killebrew at Heavenly all by my lonesome self. Was lapping with Ski Patrol. It was epic.

I've been an Epic Pass holder for that whole time now (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood). For $500, you can't beat it. I love UT, and how close SLC is to Park City or the Cottonwoods, but CO is where my heart is, I think.

My wife works from home, so it's very simple for her to move on a moments notice. I've been interviewing and keeping an eye on near as everything. Ended up being runner-up for a job in Boulder, CO, a town just south of SLC, UT, and a bunch o' others. Just haven't had things work out perfectly yet.

The Canyons!? Ughh. We avoid that place like the plague! For whatever reasons, I just cannot stand that place.

Spend most of my days in Park City at Deer Valley, very few at PCMR, and none at Canyons. Just they way it is.

Love the stashes, trees, and "steeps" at Deer Valley. Rich people don't like powder, trees, cold, or anything beyond a blue. LOL

Put it all back together after replacing some of the coolant hoses that had become saturated with oil from a slow oil leak. I think the leak is coming from the head gaskets, or possibly the cam seals. That project will have to wait a couple of weeks though. This weeks project is new bushings, springs, dampers, and other suspension bits on the focus. In the meantime, in an attempt to make sure the new hoses don't succumb to the same oil soaked affliction as their predecessors, I took aluminum foil tape and wrapped each hose in it. Hopefully that is able to provide a bit of a barrier and allow the oil to drip off, not soak in. If not, I'm really no worse for wear.

Same as having a really fast wagon, but with more ground clearance. But I don't have to pay the God-awful pricing that comes along with the CTS-V or especially the Merc E63.

I dig it. And I know it's not for everyone, which is part of the reason I like it.

Best bet? Audi wisens up and sends over an RS4 Avant. I'd sell the Jeep in an instant. But it's not going to happen.

Nah. I'd be selling the Touareg. I wouldn't want TWO SUV's the suck gas like a teenager huffing paint fumes. The deals are to be had, now, though. The 2014's are being released in a month or two with the refreshed look (headlights, mostly), and some interior changes. Which means pricing is getting the right point.

The wife actually was giving it serious thought on the phone a moment ago.

...well in Grahams defense, Fire Engine Cherry Cardinal Red B6 S4s ARE front heavy so its quite possible he confuzzled a Reliant as a B6/B7 S4.

Laser guided cruise control.

I figure that 470 hp/tq is about right when it comes to this best. My wife would drive it many days, since I use the Avant a lot of time to go to work. Better gas mileage! LOL

Once the weather changes again, I'll be back in my old BMW 'vert, but stoplight drags would be pretty awesome in the SRT.

I think it looks terrible, and gives me very little cargo and passenger space. I'm highly disappointed. IF it makes it to the US, and it's a big IF, I would be even more upset. Bring this lame-duck instead of Avants? Argh!

Agreed.

Get ready to be upset, as Audi confirmed that a Q3 with the 2.5 TFSI would be sold here....and it's a quattro gmbh exclusive engine, so it will be an RS Q3.

And the SQ5, and so on. The Audi wagon is all but dead in America. I'll be surprised if the allroad sticks around long enough to see a redesign. My next wagon will likely have a roundel on the front of it.

Starting to get upset as I type. Trigger finger awfully close to selecting SRT8. Next step? Sell the Audi and buy a CTS-V. Just dump the Germans all together.

There's no Q3 in the US, yet. Neither an SQ3. So jumping straight to the RSQ3 seems a bit much, even by Audi's lame standards.

I have the full set with the console, ashtray and hazard. I love it but the center pieces were too blingie for my taste so I switched it up after six months. I used plastidip and was quite happy with how it turned out. I can pull the dip off if I ever want to switch. Here is an iPhone pic.
