A HUGE thanks to David at AudiEnthusiasts.com for working on the coding of my taillights Saturday night on my 2013 allroad. Now, the brakes, turn signals, rear fogs all work exactly as they do in the rest of the world.... vs the US settings. The rear turn signals are still red.... if you want amber you have to buy new taillights.

The turn signals and brake lights are now separate. No lights turn off when the rear fogs come on. The only thing we found is that the rear side markers are tied to the running lights, so there's no way to turn them off by changing the coding.

I will be posting video soon!

If you're really looking to change up the rear lighting look and function of your allroad ---- THIS IS A MUST DO MOD!!!

DAVID ---- THANKS AGAIN!!!!

So I was wrestling with the idea of sharing or not sharing this incident with the intarwebs.

"But GramCracker, why not share?" you ask. Because people openly share way too much information (myself included) and I'm trying to change that about myself.

"But GramCracker, why are you choosing to share now?" Great question, glad you asked! Because I love this car and want to be 100% transparent about it and it's life with me. I don't want skeletons in her closet, so to say. Now, on to the poop...

So a thing happened the other day when I was leaving my girlfriend's house in New Rochelle:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/ferrari32/B7ADCC17-E4E8-4C3F-8D49-CBF329481C51-25889-000012EE67579FEA_zps1baea4c9.jpg (http://s5.photobucket.com/user/ferrari32/media/B7ADCC17-E4E8-4C3F-8D49-CBF329481C51-25889-000012EE67579FEA_zps1baea4c9.jpg.html)

I was traveling in the outside lane of a round about and a lady on the inside lane decided it would be easiest to exit the round about by cutting across my lane and driving through my front bumper. Great idea, right? I thought so too. It's amazing how stupid people are. The kicker is that there are no definitive markings on the road or signs as to who needs to be in what lane while traveling/exiting the round about.

Here is the other car. For once in the history of the world, the joke phrase, "That'll buff out" is actually true and applicable. Case-in-point:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/ferrari32/A821BA5C-35CB-4B0E-A526-2D9DD6D9AB7E-25889-000012EE72D7C90A_zpsc9eddb3b.jpg (http://s5.photobucket.com/user/ferrari32/media/A821BA5C-35CB-4B0E-A526-2D9DD6D9AB7E-25889-000012EE72D7C90A_zpsc9eddb3b.jpg.html)

Lilly (read: my avant) has now racked up a $3.2k medical bill. What needs to be repaired is the following: new bumper, repair current fender (pull out a few millimeters), respray front end to match. While this is happening, I'm having my US filler plate (complete with license plate bracket holes) repaired so I can run that and not my Euro plate. Insurance is covering everything for my car being repaired. She goes in on Monday and I should have her back at the end of the week.

edit: When the insurance adjuster was working out what the repairs would cost, he was like "Want to hear a funny thing?" I got, "Sure, enlighten me." He tells me that his computer is telling him that the damage is at 50% of the value of the vehicle and and we both shared a grand laugh at how stupid that is. I like my insurance guy.

If she didn't stop, I was hunting her ass down. I also have no idea who doesn't see a FUCKING YELLOW WAGON! I yelled that at her.

was it determined 100% her fault?

The cop claims that since the city doesn't have any markings on the road or signs, it's no one's fault. Hearing that immediately made me go: http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-raise.gif I mean, let's be serious; she cut me off, drove through my lane and hit my bumper.

Swapped the mirrors and rear valance with my Ibis sedan.
Previous owner had installed brilliant black mirrors and a (faded) black rear valance, looked decent with all the black with the Titanium package but i liked how it came from the factory, all white (:

I also noticed that the rear valance from my 08 Ibis Sedan was a little bit of a brighter white than my 07 ibis avant. Is that maybe just from an extra year of paint fading?

Some previous jackwagon decided to throw a strip of duct tape at the top of the factory insulation instead of tucking said insulation under the metal lip of the door skin like it's supposed to be installed. Thanks for the residue, dick.

^ Is there a noticeable difference in sound?

YES. The largest affect is in the reduced road noise, but the speakers sound better as well. The stereo sounds a little better I think mostly as a result of the reduced noise floor. But yes, I do this treatment to all my cars and it always makes a huge difference. I also have covered the entire trunk from the bottom of the tail lights to the rear seat backs and up onto the cargo area walls. That application was more effective than this one, but only slightly. Both are highly recommended.

Also, the stuff I use is called Brown Bread Extreme, made by a company called B-Quiet. It's comparable to Dynamat Extreme but cheaper, lighter, and more effective.

To scared to call it drifting . Wasn't the one driving . You felt all weight go to the back end hitting the corner and the car was pushing it self sideways loosing control getting no traction . But gotta get that shock swapped out all 4s , put the lowering springs after inspections and buy the sway bars . Can't go thru that again .

So duct tape is NOT suppose to be on the insulation?

When I did my window regulators, there was duct tape holding down the padding at the top of the door, where the window and door seperate.

BCsniper
06-02-2013, 10:44 PM
I have thought the same thing about the duct tape.

However after removing numerous door cards from no less than 3 different B6's I can say that the strip of duct tape is on the door frame of every B6 audi, still haven't figured out why though. You would think there would have been a better choice than duct tape since it is something that will no doubt have to be removed at points in the car's life.

tchuck
06-03-2013, 12:40 AM
Duct tape is a horrible choice of materials for that application. First if all, it is entirely redundant, as there is adhesive on the back side of the factory insulation the secures it to the door skin perfectly. If the adhesive weren't sufficient for the top, why would they use it everywhere else? That location is also completely covered by the top of the door card. Second, duct tape is not a very durable material in general, especially when exposed to water. Mine was well into the decomposition process as it sat, before I removed it and sprayed adhesive behind the factory insulation to keep it in place.

It blows my mind that more cars have this than just mine. It definitely wasn't done at the factory - all my insulation was torn a little from being removed/adjusted prior.

I'd love to hear a real explanation... I certainly don't have one.

I'm sorry to tell you, but you need to think again. I highly doubt that it was a random occurrence that I have seen this on 3 out of 4 door cards on my current B6, one door card on my other B6, and the same on a totalled B6 I pulled apart at a junk yard. You think that is just a bit of coincidence? I agree that the usage of it is retarded, but it is not due to the PO. Since this is a job that TONS of people have tackled I know they can chime in an confirm this.

Plus after searching and pulling up a couple DIY's it's clearly there also

Obviously the previous owner of mine also owned yours, and all the others you mentioned.... Duh.

If it was done at the factory, wouldn't it be on every door card of every b6? Maybe it was done at a dealership as part of a tsb or something?

I have intentions to eventually get a CC permit, and when that does happen (if I ever get stopped by a cop) that will be one of the documents handed over along with my license and registration. It's the smartest way to go about it I think.

Yes to CC
Yes to letting the officer know I have a firearm in my possession (hence hands at 10-2 on steering wheel until he tells me to move).

For those of you with CCL/CCPs, you do NOT have to let the officer know if you're carrying or if you are currently in possession. Most of the time when you get pulled and have your tags ran, your CCL/CCP will pop up with your vehicle registration and license info; the officers will then proceed accordingly depending on stop.

It is professional courtesy if the officer asks you right off the bat if you're carrying or in possession before he asks you any other question, it REALLY helps ease the tension in the air (both for the driver and the officer) so please do not take it offensively or as an intrusion to privacy.

So I got a Ford Edge today as my rental car, god damn does it feel MASSIVE on the road. Just reminds me how much I hate SUV's. So before I drive off, the rental car man turns to me and goes, "This is a brand new car, first time it's being rented with only 52 miles!" I look him dead in the face, and with the most serious tone and expression respond, "I'm going to beat the shit out of this car." Needless to day, he had quite the shocked look on his face. I like amusing myself [:p]

Thank you. Why the F is it so damn hard to get a shop to simply set toe to as close to 0 f/r and 0 out cross camber!? So frustrating

It's all still "in the green", but your front is toed in higher than I would do. For something 'aggressive street' I might even go 0.00 or .05 -.10 total. OE spec I think is .15 per side or .30 total. Same with rear.

Rear camber is more than .5 degree out. Even if its lowered and out of OE spec, at very least match it up side to side.

Thrust line, ya, okay 0.02 degrees is a ****hair, but why the eff not have it read 0.0.

Spacers should have no effect. Toe is toe, camber is camber, and thrust is if the rear is running the same track as front!

This is exactly why I forked out $25k for my (cheap!) machine. Most people running these alignment racks have no clue what they are actually looking at, what an alignment is, and/or are the co-op student "learning" your car at the expense of your $1k+/set sport summer tires. Toss in lowered out-of-OE-spec and spacers, and you may as well be speaking German! [:)]

I have big plans for this car in the future...most likely I will be redoing my rs4 build on this car again but this time starting with a cheaper platform, hence why I never sold my personal rs4 motor with my old Avant and didn't want to.

They noted that the passenger's side was also like that, yet didn't do anything with it. Kinda makes me question if asking them to fill the holes in my filler plate is going to prove to be too complex/confusing of a request for them....

I basically told the nice guy to just fix it so we don't have an issue when I pick up the car.

It was posted in the B7 forum, but will post it here for future references.

Went to Dealer ship for the PCV and intake flapper motor recalls. They asked me if my car was chipped. Yes, why? They said that they saw it in time before plugging the car to the fault reader. It would have trigger an alarm at Audi and they would have cancelled my warranty and recalls and i would be charged for the parts and time. But the guy says that they scanned it with another terminal that is not logged with Audi. So they did my Recalls, well two of three (see other post about Audi Canada). So i have to mention that i'm chipped next time i'll go to the dealer, if i'll ever go again.
Back at home (11h) i decide to tackle the suspension installation. I had Koni Yellow with Eibach springs in my garage for two years now. It took me 8 hours, with an hour lost to get some nuts. My fingers hurts so much, it was one of the most painfull job i did. (working in my alley with jack and stand). I f8cked up one of the rear camber bushing, and lost a lot of time with the spring, until i dropped the sub-frame completely. For the front, i didn't do the pinch bolt method, i went with the DIY and remove the upper control arms bolts. Not hard.
Anyway here is the final result, Koni Yellow with Avant Eibach springs.

Got all the interior lights swapped out to LED in my 2013 allroad. A ton of light and great, clean look!

Got a no front plate ticket. Ironically, it was the first time I placed the plate in the front window in the last 6 months or so, usually roll without it. I was parking in pacific heights in SF which is notorious for mean meter maids so I placed the plate in the window. $114 ticket. Writing a nice long letter to contend it....

Where is this??? Somewhere off of 46 heading to the coast? Used to live in Bakersfield 10 years ago or so and would take 46 or 58 to the coast in my B5.

It's off of 168 heading north toward Yosemite. Just some random dirt road I turned off on.

I thought my driver rear door was involved in a accident from the previously owner as it stuck out a little at the handle end. today after a grocery store trip it was sticking out alot more. after opening the door I realized my latch connector on the car was lose.( I have no clue) , anyways I losed it up some more moved it in and tighted it down.. no more gap, I was so happy... I thought it was in a accident by previous owner.. ugg..

I quite like the "buttfuck no where" collection, sounds prestigious. How are you liking the Whispbars? I'm thinking of ordering a set soon!

My brother lives off of 168 just outside of Fresno in one of those new housing developments.

no pictures but I detailed the avant, which was much needed after a few months of ownership, she looks pretty again.

Next up, rear brakes which have been sitting in my room for a bit now, then she needs a new clutch and new tires. Anyone got some good all-season suggestions besides Conti DWS's? I'm already considering those but want some other ideas/opinions.

Dropped off my car at AutoTech to see what the fuck is causing my front suspension to clunk as well as fixing my intermittent A/C issue. Can everyone pray for me that this doesn't turn out poorly for my wallet? My bank account thanks you in advance for your prayers.

Its as prestigious as a dirt road can be.

As for the Whispbars, I like them, but I have run across a few annoyances, chiefly that getting the end caps off is a pain in the ass. Since the whole bar is built to create as little drag as possible, there isn't a good surface to pull the cap off. There's about an 1/8" of plastic to push on, and those suckers are stuck on there really well. Maybe there's a better way to pulling them off, but I haven't found it. In comparison to an old round bar setup I had on a previous car, these things are near silent (although that could be because the old setup had clips that went under the weather stripping in the door frame).

Ill pray, but we all know B5 S4s are like that really hot girl that likes fancy/expensive stuff... So what I'm trying to say is, if your wallet ends up empty at least you have the really hot girl lol

I got the opposite problem with mine. My box just barely sits on the ones in the rear so the caps always start sliding out on their own. The locks do diddly for me. I could pull them off when they're locked.

On the car being a hot girl note, people try and give me crap by saying, "If your car was a girl, you'd totally try and bang her." I respond with the following: "Hell yea I'd try to bang her! My car would be slammin' hot as a girl!" They either don't know what to say or laugh and agree.

Why do simple DIYs like a downpipe swap always end up more complicated than you thought it would be?

3hrs in and it's still attached to the car by two hangers and o2 sensors!

Ugh, gotta go pick up my mini me.

Got a call from the shop! All of my front control arms are shot and I'd be looking at a $1700 bill after parts + labor. Yea, totally keep my car and perform the work! NAHHHT. http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-suicide.gif

figured DP's was what you were working on. Which ones are those in the photos? They look like Milltek's or something. Yes that job can be a HUGE pain in the ass. Doing it on jackstands makes suicide look more fun.

$1700 to replace control arms on just the front...........yeah, looks like you need to find a new shop mate

Just got another call to be the cherry on top. They said they couldn't get my A/C to replicate the intermittent not working bullshit that it gives me.

I really hope someone doesn't rub me the wrong way before I get home, I will incinerate someone right now.

Fuck. Me.

F*ck that. Buy some nice parts (like the adjustable 034 ones, $700ish for parts), and do the work yourself. Might as well use it as an excuse for an upgrade. That's what I'd do at least. Make the best of a bad situation
