I've also had good service life with the Zimmerman rotors. I've found that if you spray the rotor hat section twice a year with a high temp cast aluminum you can keep them looking pristine. No need to tape them off. The little bit of overspray will burn off the first time you hit the brakes.

Ok, this may sound really dumb...but I can't seem to get a definite answer, so maybe someone here can help...
I just picked up a S2+ headunit and sirius OEM receiver for cheap....I know some people have mentioned that FM reception to to [poop] after the install due to the different types used in b6/b7. Anyway, my questions are...
1. Do I need to install a separate antenna for the Sat, or is there one pre-wired/in receiver?
2. Will the HU use the Sat antenna for FM stations?

What is that white looking canister circled in red? It's located on the passenger side in front of the SMIC.

Hoping my previous post has a good answer. Wondering how Liqui-Moly gear oil compares to Motul 300 for gear box and rear diff. Vendor I was planning on getting it from says it has better weather shifting than Redline MT-90.

Yea, this is what they had for the brief description:
High performance 75W90 synthetic GL4+ gear oil. This oil is a great all-around performer with better cold flow characterists than Redline MT90 for improved cold shifting and excellent high temperature characterists as well. 1.0 liter bottle, transmission capacity is 2.75 liters.

What D1S is Audi currently using in their newer models? I seen a new A4 last night not sure if it was D1S or not but it do look pretty good. I am looking to get new OEM bulbs since I have had no luck with the two sets of CBI's I have. They don't work properly while my stockers are working fine, just dim. They are they Osram 66043 and looking for an updated OEM replacement

No you wouldn't be stupid. As long as you don't beat on it like a bat out of hell. Your turbo will be working overtime and if you have the original k03 a turbo you'll probably have to replace it in the near future. It's great to though. Very happy with it and I am over 141k miles

Stage 1 should be fine... it all comes down to how well you have cared for the car. Some people claim it runs better than ever with that many miles. Just keep in mind it might take a couple of revisions to dial in the tune to your liking. Don't be upset if you flash it and it runs like crap, just have patience.

Thanks for the responses guys, I by no means beat on my car and have cared for it since the day I bought it. I think Ill go with it and then fine tune it for myself, I really just want a little more power for when needed such as getting up to highway speeds and getting around people, I dont race or drive like a beat out of hell

Depends how crappy.. if it's misfiring and shaking, I wouldn't. The most it will probably be is a lean or rich condition if you went with the bigger injector file. It might take a couple revisions to dial it in right.
Should be okay.

I've always used a tire with no rim. Its soft enough where it wont hurt the oil pan and the big hole in the center allows the pan to fit inside without hitting the gound and its supported on either side. [up]

If you plan on changing anything in the bottom end (oil pan gasket, pick up tube, etc) you're going to want a stand.

I would use the new ones. It seems like they changed the configuration so there's less of a chance of the bolt just backing out of the end link. I'm pretty sure a lot of those suspension bolts are one time use anyway so even if you decided to use the OEM you should get new ones.

I'm sure it can be done, but going from a v6 to a i4, you're going to need a new ECU, new mounts, etc...depending on how cheap you can source all the stuff you would need, you may be better off keeping an eye out for another v6.

I was honestly contemplating that when I had my 3.0 V6 B6 - and I was in the process of sourcing an engine, ECU, and all of the other parts necessary for the swap. Luckily, my transmission went, so I ditched it and just bought a 1.8T B6.
I'm sure it can be done in a B5, but if you're gonna go through all that trouble, why not just hold out a little longer, spend a tiny bit more, and toss in a 2.7TT?

So you big turbo people... I cant say I've ever seen how you have your intakes set up while still utilizing the MAF. Also, how do you have your N75 (if still using it) set up while running an external waste gate? Anyone care to share a few pictures outlining the intake/N75 setup with a BT? I'm kinda curious because I am getting my hands on a 3076R and will soon be slapping it on my spare motor with a set of rods and some other goodies to go in the car. Just can't say that I've seen how the intakes were set up haha

Does anyone here know much about the Neuspeed chip? It was on the car when I purchased it, so I'm not sure what kind of chip it is (ie. just software through OBD2 or an actual chip). I haven't contacted them about it yet, but was just curious how I would go about replacing it when I decided to go BT. I would want to do the Maestro tune, but just don't know if I would be able to revert my ECU, or if I would be better off buying a second one.

After changing your oil, is it normal for the engine to sound like a diesel for the first couple seconds upon start-up?
Yeah that's common. That's just how it is before the fresh oil gets up to the head(s)
On to my question.. (Still have yet to have my question above answered too. Post #2832)
I could swear I saw an online retailer that sold a 3" V- band downpipe for the B6's that would fit a turbo on a PSI Concepts manifold. Am I crazy? Or am I just not finding it? I recently picked up a 3076R and will be buying the PSI manifold and will need a downpipe. Any help? Thanks!

Did you pre fill the oil filter prior to installation? If not you will hear a bit of rattling around as the oil pressure gets up to snuff. By pre filling the filter you can avoid a "dry" start up which really isn't the best way to treat your motor.

I have noticed that my purge valve will begin to cycle at different time intervals depending upon the block temperature. If the block is up to temperature the N80 purge valve starts to cycle after 60-90 seconds. At colder temperatures it tends to start cycling between 30-60 seconds. If your start up is smooth I wouldn't worry about it.

Okay sounds good thanks, yes my start ups are smooth.
If the car is left alone for a while, and when I Start it up, the rpms will be above 1000, after about 40 seconds they drop below 1000 and the car is smoother.
I always wait for the rpm to drop before driving it.

Nothing wrong with waiting but it really isn't necessary. The increase in RPM is simply to get the cat up to temperature faster. The same thing will happen if you go ahead and drive the car. If you pay close attention to your start up idle speed you will find that once the temperature drops below the dew point the idle speed will actually decrease at start up. It's normal. Just think about how the fuel pump functions. It's pumping fuel through the lines from full all the way to empty and that causes pressure in the system. The result is when you take the gas cap off you hear the pressure release.

I had the same issue when I owned my 3.0 B6. The "suction noise" just got worse and worse until I could no longer get gas in my car -- the gas pump would just keep clicking and stopping after every $0.02 of gas.
IIRC, a few guys have told me it had to do with overfilling our gas tanks constantly.
Don't quote me on that though. I haven't had the problem once since I got my 1.8T B6 last May.

@old guy, you do so well at diagnosing things. I have a hard time finding what the problem is, once I know the problem then I can fix it. Hard part for me is knowing.
@eurodoll, I always set the gaspump on first knotch (less ethanol supposedly? idk). Let if till till it clicks, done. Curious if this is what does it. I always fill full everytime. But I let the pump know when its full for me. So yah...

I'm hearing a noise RIGHT BEFORE my car comes to a complete stop...
When applying the brakes the car's weight is shifted "forwards" until the split second before it fully stops. At this point the car's weight is shifted "backwards" which is when I briefly hear a "lurch" noise until the weight of the car is balanced again at a full stop (best way I can explain it). The noise is much louder and noticeable with aggressive braking (ie slamming the brakes at a yellow light).
My opinion is that the noise is coming from my suspension (factory sports) but would like some input before I go ahead and replace them.. Could it possibly the sway bar bushings? Maybe the motor//transmission//snub mount(s)?
The car is an '03 1.8TQ Autotragic w/ 120,000 KMS (not miles)... Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks AZ.

At this point, the prv is directly under the hard lines attached to the firewall which runs to the fuel rail. Have people removed this and other stuff at the top of the valve cover?
How high does the engine have to go?
Don't place the hydraulic jack directly on the oil pan. Use a wood prop with ample length for weight distribution to the best it can and jack from that. As for the passenger side not lifting, you need to consider all the stuff that is still attached and may not permit such a smooth transition. Unbolt the downpipe hanger, both tranny mounts, and of course both motor mounts. You can not lift the engine up anymore when the rear coolant flange hits the false firewall. Engine has to go high enough for you to be able to remove the motor mounts. remove what you need to get it done.
When I replaced mine my engine bay was sort of...empty. Made it much easier with none of that stuff in there. Was able to jack the engine really high.

Looking to put some meaty tires on my 17x8 +35 BBS RK's. I want it to look something like the picture included in this post. The tires on the VW are 255/45/17. Will I be able to fit that size tire on my car without it rubbing or being an issue? If those won't work, what would be the meatiest I could go without having any problems? I've never really messed around with tire sizes because I've always ran the factory size. Any help is appreciated!

Changed my coilpacks and spark plugs today. Noticed 3 of the 4 coil packs had alittle oil on the tips and all 4 plugs had oil on the threads. I know this usually points to a VCG, but it was replaced 7000 miles ago. It was replaced by an Indy shop though (dead of winter and I didn't want to mess with it then). As far as I know, the CCT gasket has never been replaced. Could this be a possibility? Everything seems to be running well and I haven't noticed any oil leaks.

I am thinking of picking up my new wheels, would I have any issues running 19x9 ET 48 fronts and 19x10 Et45, I would have 15mm spacer adaptors on for a final offset of ET 33 front and ET 30 in the rear. I know this is a silly question but I am still learning more and more about wheels and taking down measurements. I am running Eibac pro springs on the car and plan on running 235/35/19 tires all around

Ya it could happen. In my case I didn't use enough sealant so it started leaking after 4000 miles. I replaced the vcg again when I did the CCT and gasket.

Is there somewhere better I can get a set?

Yeah those are Bi-xenons. Easiest way to tell is by looking at how the ballast mates with the housings. Single Xenon is on the underside, bi-xenon is on the back.

06A905115D were the B6 coil packs issued during the recall back in 2010. They're pretty much bulletproof. If I was still running B6 coils that's the only rev I'd use w/out further info from Audi. If there are discrepancies like this do not rely on ECS. Call a dealer's part's dept to confirm.

Our sales department at night is very limited on resources. All of our parts specialists leave the office at 530PM EST so anytime after that if there is a question about a part, unless they know off the top of their head it would be difficult to give a confident answer.

Right now I have these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FMU21U/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 FSI coils 07K-905-715F with ngk bkr7e plugs.. both brand new, I took a log, sent it to Dave at Motoza Tuning, and he said my long term fuel is 15-20%. Also during start up, it registered 10 misfires. Also when I put my car from P to R, it shakes more than normal.
Yesterday I put back my stock old coils [1 was a rev R, and the other 3 were faded so I couldn't see the item number] with the same plugs bkr7e, took a log, and zero misfires were registered during start up, and the car feels smoother. I sent the log to Dave so waiting to hear back on the fuel trim.

I did a search about putting on a USP front. Looks like most people just get the lower and hack up the stock upper to make it work. I wanted to verify that if I bought a new USP upper and lower that it will bolt right up to my 03 A4. Body shop wasn't sure it fits right up and I just wanted to make sure it did. If there is info I missed when searching, please let me see it. Thanks

In SoCal, the dealerships charge $150 or more just for programming of keys. It would have been around $300 to get a new fully functional key from the dealership.
I found blank Audi keys on eBay for around $30. Dealer was asking $155 for the blanks which they claim are ordered from Audi and precut according to your VIN. Dealer then pairs the transponder to my car. The alternative from eBay-- was around $30. Then I had my local locksmith cut the key and downloaded the codes for the transponder into my new key for $99
I've not seen a flat key without transponder that would fit into your wallet.

The lights haven't come back since. I went to an Indy shop today to make sure everything was in good shape before I get motoza and mentioned the lights coming on earlier in the week. They scanned for codes and told me its my brake pressure sensor. Is this something that I should fix before getting a tune? Where is the brake pressure sensor located?

Is it absolutely necessary to install adjustable upper control arms while installing coilovers? Should my car be able to be aligned properly without the adjustable arms?

The lower you go the more negative the camber will be. After you get much lower than the sport suspension height the camber will go out of the factory spec. The best you will be able to do in the front is to center up the camber (if necessary) by centering the sub frame. The rear is adjustable.
As to alignment: It is possible to adjust the front alignment to minimize uneven tire wear. It will require setting the front toe outside of the factory spec. If you go with the factory settings you will chew up the inner edge of your tires at a significantly faster rate.

I made a thread about this with no response:
I have those Verdict cups. They work really well. Maybe you can get bigger o-rings for your injectors?

I installed my coilovers last night and I'm about 25" fender to ground right now. Without the adjustable arms (for now) do you have any idea what I should have my alignment specs set at? I know someone at a Firestone out by me that will align your car to whatever specs you want and I can get a lifetime alignment package. So if possible I would like to have my car aligned without the adjustable arms and then will go back once I actually do inatall them. Thanks!

A bit ashamed but I keep seeing VW/Audis that make a nice noise when they let off the gas. Is it simply adding in a Forge or 034 DV or is it a big turbo setup?

No, a DV by itself will not do that. A splitter or BOV (not recommended) might help.
Also a cone filter helps (not recommended) , a test pipe and exhaust system helps too.

Where do you see that price on their website?
My setup shows http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_A4-FWD-1.8T/Engine/Turbocharger/ES3364/ $1094.95

Hm, not sure where I saw that price. Must of been on a different website or was looking at the wrong part. To many late nights trying to find the best prices on items.

Is there an easy way to get the window up (and keep it) while the window regulator is broken? Mine broke today... just grinding with the window stuck in the door and it'll be a few days before a new regulator arrives.

I'm sure there will be several suggestions.
What I did was this.
1. I pulled the window glass up and had a partner hold it in place.
2. I took a small piece of wood, a door shim worked great.
3. I positioned the piece of wood horizontally across the bottom of the window on the inside and on top of the door card. Then I used blue painters tape which held the piece of wood in place. The wood will then stand firm against the top of the door card holding the window pane in place. It's not attractive but it worked for me until my replacement regulator arrived.

To clarify, the wood is taped to the glass on the inside surface.

Excellent, thank you! Did you have a technique for pulling the window glass up? The switch was uncooperative when it finally broke so I watched the entire window disappear into the door.

Ouch! No mine the cable bound up so my window only descended partially. It left a small portion of the glass still exposed. So I was able to simply grab it and lift.
If it is inside the door, the safest way may be to remove the door card and push the glass upwards. That's a lot of repetitive work considering you'd have to do it again to replace the regulator. I don't know if there's a way to grab it from the top and lift without possibly damaging the glass
hopefully someone has a suggestion

Yeah, I ended up having to take the door panel off along with the motor and sound dampening material to force the window back up. I could tell this wasn't the first time it had happened, either. Surprised it isn't a recall item. I'll need to do it all over again when the part arrives but at least it doesn't seem as daunting anymore. Thanks again for your help.

I been getting the P0171 Fuel Trim too lean code ever since flashing my motoza 1+ tune. I use a K&N drop in panel filter..
What is the proper way to clean the MAF?

I've never cleaned mine but I would assume removing the maf and using maf cleaner and letting it air dry completely. You getting a cel?

^Yes.. stated above, code P0171. The car runs fine.. but I do notice pretty bad gas mileage.. it's become a gas guzzler.
Well, let me re state that. The car USED to run fine.. but now feels a bit sluggish and sometimes idles rough. I did a leak test at 20 psi, 0 leaks.

Never. Never even took it out, so I have no idea how it looks. Just hit 100k miles.
Couple of things I am considering replacing are the fuel filter, maf, and 02 sensor.

im gonna say the filter isnt your issue. i also use a k&n filter. id change your o2 sensors if they havent been changed and clean your maf with maf cleaner and not brake cleaner
