    I agree. Greatest thread ever!

    To tell the truth. I am a little surprised that people are still confused about how to do this mod after reading the thread. Your first post perfectly describes how to install the lights, we have talked multiple times about where to purchase the lights, I have posted the necessary coding no less than five times, etc.....

    I'm not trying to be rude or anything - but, for anyone who is thinking about completing this mod: PLEASE read the entire thread before asking questions. If you still have questions after that, please ask specific questions - not ones that just say, "I don't know how to do this, can you guys please help?"
    Again - I'm not attacking anyone - I just want to keep this thread constructive

    oh well, I have been finished with the retrofit since jan. and still love my lights every time I see them

    I did the retrofit a few days ago only to find out my control unit would not accept 26 as the coding for Byte 0, after some tinkering I found that coding it to 23 works, with the control unit High beams will not work (no pins in the needed positions) so I'll need to replace it. however for now my lights work.

    My coding is currently

    no man, the pics you saw above (assuming they're on pg. 10) are of a full conversion. you can't just throw LEDS in to the halogen housing, for many reasons. inaccessibility being one.

    you're gonna have to spend the ~1K to do it right, or buy an LED strip from eBay and just glue them to your fog grills and have some pretend ones.

    x2 ^, there is no easy way to do this and by the time you are done it won't look half as good as the real thing and you would have spent time/labor on it.
    There are bargains on used sets everywhere. You should just get the real deal and you'll be much happier with the end result.

    Thanks a LOT ASU Daniel and everyone else who contributed to this thread, i found it very helpful. I could swap out halogens with ecodes everything is working fine except for one thing. I had a really hard time trying to remove the magenta clip from red and tan connectors. I didn't end up plugging the high beam wires as i was afraid i might break the clip too.
    Does anyone have an idea how to remove the magenta clip from the connector and how much the audi dealer would charge just to do the connection for me?

    Quoting from the original post by ASU Daniel
    I had an audi-tech wire them for me since i broke the clips the first time. I believe the magenta colored part of each clip needs to be moved out of the way in order to get the pins in. I'm sorry but I cant help with this. Anyway, the wires need to be pinned into slot #3 on the tan and slot #9 on the red. My wires were marked pin 3 and pin 9.

    Hey people I got my ecodes with highbeams running now. I went to a local mechanic who hooked up those wires into the connectors. I took some pictures of the wiring process but not able to post them on this website. If anyone wants them i can send it as an email attachment.

    i followed this:

    Code:
    [56 - Radio]
    [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 8

    Bit 7 - Interior Light Settings active - (1 = active)

    Then enable the 'connection' between Cent. Elect and the Interior light MMI menu item (the same on all systems):
    Code:
    [09 – Cent. Elect.]
    [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 16

    Bit 6 - Set this bit manually to “1” - (1 = active)
    If the menu item is still grayed out - then a restart of MMI is required now...

    Finished up this mod tonight with the help of a local vag-com owner, I used this coding posted by Nputer

    Byte 0: From 69 -> 26
    Byte 2: From 00 -> 10
    Byte 14: From 7F -> 1D
    Byte 15: From 5F -> 0D

    Also, for a really easy way to run the high beam wires, drill a hole in that firewall plug as shown in the pics. Then take a straightened wire coat hanger and poke it through the hole. Bend a curve into the hanger so it arcs up as you push it through the firewall, until you can reach it under the hood. Then tape the 2 wires to the end of the hanger and pull it back through the hole.

    Guys I just got my headlights from TT8J on Tuesday but due to Thanksgiving was only able to open the 2nd one up today.

    The first one is fine however the second one, one of the plastic clips that holds the lens into place it partly broken.

    The lens moves a little back and forth only when I move it with my hand.
    It seems like it might not make a difference when on the car. EXCEPT is the lens motorized by any chance?
    These are NOT AFS lights these are standard E-Codes.

    Any help will be appreciated!

    Picture below shows the semi-broken clip

    Well don't all chime in at once

    But anyways it turns out that TT8J is sending me a new light to replace it, which I think is really stand up of him!

    Anyways, I got my ballasts the other day but I don't have the screws, does anybody know the sizes or even the part number to order from the dealer?

    TIA!

    I bought used xenon ballasts and LED daytime ballasts in order to swap from the halogen headlights and wonder if there's possibility that lights go out due to ballasts lifespan?

    If my ballasts are 2 years old now, are there any chances that ballasts die in 2~3 years?

    I think the ballasts may be interchangable so you could just swap them and test both parts separately. If it turns out to be the ballast, I see plenty on ebay for ~$150. It's likely the ballasts will last longer than that anyway so I really would not worry if I were you.

    Do the instructions posted in this thread apply to the A5 as well? I don't think anyone has given a definitive response on that.

    I wouldn't think so... All A5s come with xenons. The difference is whether you get the fancy LED ones... I would believe that the wiring is different than the A4's.5

    If so the parts would be different but wouldnt it be the same basic idea? You sure all A5s come with xenons? He messaged me and said his didnt.....i told him it would probably be possible to do the swap since it is for our cars...

    I guess all A5s come with projector headlights. There is probably a halogen bulb behind the projector on the version w/o the LEDs. My mistake - I saw that all A5s had projectors and equated that with all A5s having xenons.

    Here is what the base lighting on the A5 looks like:

    The A5 Premium does NOT come with Xenons or LEDs! I am going to do this retrofit with mine. I've been in contact with Jens and it seems like he will come through for me with the parts.

    So these instructions are valid, correct?

    Has anyone here done this on a 6-speed? I had another member send me pics of this "3 inch rubber plug" because I couldn't seem to find it, and I noticed that where the plug is for him underneath the dash is where the actuator for my clutch pedal is. Now I'm just confused. Here are some pics I took (sorry for the quality)

    And here are the pics the other user sent me:

    I mean in his images there is a gaping hole, but I just am not seeing it at all, even after removing the wiper fluid holder and taking off the dash

    I finally got my e-codes installed today! I started gathering all the parts in November. However, I broke the pin that goes in the block for the highbeam, I drove around town looking for a replacement and I couldn't find one. I finally some online, hopefully they'll fit.

    Since my e-codes are used they have some pitting and a couple of scratches, has anyone had any experience with those headlight restoration kits, the type that attach to your drill etc.?

    I wouldn't touch them... Mine have a few scratches, etc... Once you step a couple feet back, they are impossible to notice.

    Someone here tried to clean his headlights and ended up scratching the hell out of them... I believe the lens is made from a soft plastic that can easily be scratched.

    Thanks for the heads up! Its not so much the scratches but the pitting. As the pitting you can see especially when the lights are on at night.

    Thanks though!

    I thought about trying it on mine too but in the end I think NPuter is right you'll probably just make them work. There's always gonna be bugs/dirt/dust etc stuck on the front of the lense anyway so you'll never get rid of that look anyway. It is kinda sad to look at up close though...I can relate lol.

    I just successfully completed the Retrofit on my A5 (or rather, my dealership completed it). Everything is working: High beams, manually Leveled, etc. No problems whatsoever.

    PS. I've written up a very thorough guide... if anyone's interested PM me and I'll send you the word file. (also good for A4 retrofit)

    and shoutouts to Jens(lowestA4) for the parts.

    This is the coding instructions I gave them, I'm not sure exactly which codes they used but it's one of these:

    1) Change the first byte to 26 (Xenons will turn on properly after this)
    (Or instead try 23 or 20)

    2) Check Byte 02 Bit 4 (LED strip as DRL)

    3) Change byte 14 and 15 to 5D (For the hi-beam to work)
    (Or instead try: byte 14 = 1D byte 15 = 0D

    New code should look like this:

    2601D0154030AF010005000000005D5D0F1C02880000010100 0000
    or
