FINALLY getting my US-spec bi-xenons installed tomorrow. I ordered them back in December, but had to wait for another passenger side housing since the first one arrived from Germany heavily damaged. Hope I don't have any issues coding my high beams to work properly...

Guess my assumption was right. That coding looks the same for A4 and A5.
I think the kufatec harness is the same for A4/A5? And include instructions for coding both?

Same thing happened to me. Seems like anything going through customs gets abused a bit.

I just successfully completed the Retrofit on my A5 (or rather, my dealership completed it). Everything is working: High beams, manually Leveled, etc. No problems whatsoever.

PS. I've written up a very thorough guide... if anyone's interested PM me and I'll send you the word file. (also good for A4 retrofit)

and shoutouts to Jens(lowestA4) for the parts.

BTW, that looks like Flushing/Bayside Queens.
Not a lot of B8's running e-codes here so it's nice to see an A5 without ambers.

This is the coding instructions I gave them, I'm not sure exactly which codes they used but it's one of these:

1) Change the first byte to 26 (Xenons will turn on properly after this)
(Or instead try 23 or 20)

2) Check Byte 02 Bit 4 (LED strip as DRL)

3) Change byte 14 and 15 to 5D (For the hi-beam to work)
(Or instead try: byte 14 = 1D byte 15 = 0D

New code should look like this:

I would just copy and paste the long codes.... Those long coding strings are from my specific car - I may have different features, etc than your car...
Instead make the individual changes:

first byte -> 26
check bet 4 under byte 02
change byte 14 and 15 to 1D and 0D

VCDS saves a log file that contains your original code.... It is located in C:/VCDS/Debug/longcodinglog.doc (I am writing this from memory so the names may be a little different)

I put all codes before I did this back to normal but unfortunately the fault lights never left. But maybe I may have missed something. I don't know. Anything at this point I am willing to try. On the plus side my headlights are awesome :-/

Are you sure you reverted your coding back to original? Did you even check your log file to see what your default coding was?

Yes, I checked the log file and then I attempted to delete faults. After I deleted the faults they keep coming back...I am stumped.

do not copy other peoples long code. someone copied my code once and their heated seated no longer worked. i would advise you to go back to the dealership and have them reset your ecu. shouldnt take them more than 10 min. once they do that, copy your old long code and change the bites accordingly.

So this reset of the ECU can only happen at dealer right? I think that's what I am going to do. I am just going to put my halogens on and go straight to dealer. Thanks.

not sure if the dealer is the only one who can reset your ecu but if anyone knows the long code specific to your car, it'll be them. also, once you get this sorted out, they'll most likely be the ones who reset it w some update in the future so you might as well know how to modify your long code from what they give you (stock). i dont think you need to put your halogens back on. most dealerships are closed before it gets dark.

I am a few days from doing my own install so I have been reading and reading. I ended up culling down all of the posts in this thread (plus a few others with important information) into a single set of notes. I pushed them into the AZ wiki for others that may be interested. Did you copy and paste someones straight coding (mine)? I do not have heated seats; if you copied my exact coding, your heated seats will not work.
You need to use your original coding and change it byte by byte (there are 4 bytes changed). All of this is outlined on the thread.
I am also pretty sure that there is a post here that describes how to re-enable heated seats.

I didn't do the coding...I provided the tuning shop with exactly what to change, byte by byte, for this reason. My guess is the high beams didn't work with the coding I provided, and they may have come to this thread to look for help, and copied someone else's coding.
