The high beams have to be physically wired into the 09 central electronics. The shutters for high beams are controlled by pins 4 and 10 I believe. Kufatec wiring includes the diagram. it’s also on the retrofit site here. I used kufatec wiring with the self leveling. Most people don’t install the self leveling because it’s expensive to do. I think the wiring issue is because don’t install the self leveling sensors like they are supposed to.

Hi Guys, I’m a noobie here. On my 11 Q5 w halogen should I have any issues going to the oem FL ‘14 Xenon w Led DRL? I ordered the Kufatec conversion harness and my Audi tech is standing by to do the installation. I’ve read about so many issues on these 34 pgs so I just wanted to see if it’s any different on a Q5? Thanks guys!!

You could try posting your coding or pics of vcds options to see if it's even possible, i'll compare them to my b8.5 coding.

Just used that coding to fix flickering right low beam on a converted B8 from halogen and it worked perfectly. The previous shop had messed up all the coding, but now it's awesome, thanks a bunch!

Without the coding, the xenon bulbs will turn on with a red flash. I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that is not good for the bulbs. They will flicker/turn off. In addition, the LEDs will not work.
Basically, the coding is essential - do not think you can avoid changing the coding. Make sure you have access to a VAG-Com at the time of the retrofit or you will be left with non-functioning lights!

So i'm at a loss, I've completed my retrofit with a new BCM and kufatec harnesses with the correct wire changes for my B8.5 i'm continuously getting the "headlight range controller defective" error on dash, vehicle doesn't have them gone through all coding options i can think of and not getting anywhere, anyone come across this issue and have any ideas on where to look ?

    Thanks in advance.

Did not add the range adapter option through canbus since the vehicle never had them also headlights are non adaptive i seem to be getting the error as if it is an active option however.

yes because the coding you changed has the car thinking it has the self leveling installed which is why your getting that error

range adapter is needed on both the adaptive and non adaptive bi xenons. the range adapter has to do with keeping headlights level over bumps and hills. it’s part of bi xenon retrofit. when you don’t retrofit correctly that’s what is causing your error

oztecinc, what made you change the BCM? For the high beams? I did not change the BCM/do not have self leveling housings either and have never seen the error you are getting.

@Chop as per our previous conversations in message the BCM was changed to a high line unit due to errors with the LEDs and the BCM not taking the correct coding.

@Prkieffer Thank you for your reply, i would like to add that in none of these halogen to xenon conversion threads neither here or on other forums makes a mention of "Range adapters" when listing the components needed for a retrofit.

i have the range adapter and leveling sensors that are needed if you decide to go that direction.

    thanks

I take it theres no simple coding fix or green menu adaptation in order to get around having to retrofit the entire leveling system?

    Hey all,

Does anyone know the wire gauge and the tip of tips the highbeam wires uses?

My A/C wasn't working and the mechanic blamed those two wires and cut them. Didn't fix the problem and now I have no high beams.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I can look up the details, but I’ll need your VIN?

Also if I may suggest, if that mechanic is still your mechanic :-) of course, to take it back to them and ask to fix what he broke.

Bumping an old thread here, but does anyone know the best way to get the parts for this conversion? Housing, ballast, etc. I don’t mind purchasing them individually, just seems a bit hard to source.

Classified or ebay. A set pops of from time to time. You just need to search.

I assume I can buy the bi xenon headlight off eBay and then purchase the ballast, bulb, and adapter separate as well (this seems to be more pricey unless I wait for deals).

Anything else I’m missing hardware wise?

Hi everyone ! im benjamin, im new to audizine, and i permit my self to copy/paste my message to the 2 most similar threads :)
Iv actually read all of the 40 pages of that thread.
I have issues specially with the DRL leds, there is no way for me to get them working.
They are almost 4 differents tutorials some talking about ecm pin swaping, some not (as you) and im lost with this

I almost tried everything and codings

I also saw that you say it is very important to get a special reference for the LED ballast (OEM LED modules - USE only part #4G0907697D) but we don't know why do you think mine : (ref 4G0 907 397 D) could be the issue and isnt at all compatible ?

I also followed that tutorial without succes (missing the pin 4 brown connecteur for step 4) :

    1. swap the BCM to Highline.
    2. rewire the connectors to the BCM ( RED and BROWN) connectors
    a. transfer wire pin#12 from brown connector to red connector pin#5
    b. transfer wire pin#2 from red connector and move to pin#4 in the same red connector.
    c. transfer wire pin#12 on red connector to brown connector pin#4
    d. then take wire that was on brown connector pin#4 and transfer it to red connector pin#12.

Also modify adapter harness as :
    10 == 10
    8 == 4
    to :
    10==4
    8==10

    Didnt work

Also tomorrow im gonna try that kufatec tutorial :
    https://ibb.co/mHXmtvq

Il be very happy if you can help or give me any advice or confirm LED ballast is out
Sorry for my english im french.
    Benjamin 😉

Hi everyone here some positives news about my project :

So the big problem si i am unable to activate "led as drl" it says request out of range 31...
Crazy because i got 5 different bcm, highline and lowline, pre and post facelift.. no one works

I actually been able to light up one side (passenger side's DRL!!) by swaping 2 pins as the guide below :

    1. swap the BCM to Highline.
    2. rewire the connectors to the BCM ( RED and BROWN) connectors
    a. transfer wire pin#12 from brown connector to red connector pin#5
    b. transfer wire pin#2 from red connector and move to pin#4 in the same red connector.
    c. transfer wire pin#12 on red connector to brown connector pin#4
    d. then take wire that was on brown connector pin#4 and transfer it to red connector pin#12.

I only did step A and B, and actually even steb B ONLY works for DRL passenger WITHOUT coding !!! (only byte 0 = 23 = xénons)

So i just need to find the proper wiring for drivers side..
The only problem is that i cant follow the end of the tutorial because i got no wire at my brown connector PIN 4..
    c. transfer wire pin#12 on red connector to brown connector pin#4
    d. then take wire that was on brown connector pin#4 and transfer it to red connector pin#12.

Also i suspect my driver headlight DRL's to be dead i swapped the led ballast there both working, i can manage the coding with the working headlight (can you confirm if left and right can work fine inverted to test?)
So im gonna do the retrofit wiring and coding then i will either buy a new head light or fix the internal strip led.

Thanks for your help and tips

Hi,im new to all this, and i'm a mechanic but i dont do much electric or coding .. i do just basic coding and adaptation.. I have in mind to buy a4 b8 with halogen headlights. And i dont see pictures for the adapter and other where to harness it. If you cloud be nice to put everythin in the reply(links where i can buy all of that) and pictures/videos for coding.. it would help a lot!!

Halogen to BIXENON with range control, NO AFS

Hi! A friend of mine wanted to retrofit Bi-xenon to his Facelift b8.5. I made the retrofit with changing the wiring, no adapters needed. For those using adapters from kufatec, please keep in mind that the wire for the xenon bulb on the right needs to be 2.5 sq mm, which you don't have on the halogen wiring, so good luck burning your car down!!! Parts we bought:
-BCM1 8K0 907 063 DH (supports xenon + heated seats for Facelift), upgraded from CD
    -1 left front level sensor 8K0 941 285 P
    -1 left rear level sensor 8K0 941 309 F
-2x 14pin headlight sockets, 1J0 973 737 with pins (we bought them used)
    -0.35, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.5 sq mm wires
    -TESA heat resistant tape
-4x 6packs of belgian beer La Chouffe

All the wires have been routed on the original route and given the fact that this car has manual transmission, no passing throught the firewall was possible. Parts to dissamble: front wheel + wheel liner, rear wheel + rear wheel liner, washing tank completely (to avoid 1hour or cursing), headlights, front cover above the headlights. The wires from BCM1 are going behind the washing tank (that is placed under the left front wing) throught the wall, which has a plastic retainer and a rubber seal. I have routed though that space all the necessary wires (6x for left headlight, 7x for right headlight, 3x for front level sensor).

    BCM1 sockets colors:
    T17M - BROWN
    T17N - RED
    T17L - BLACK

Because this is facelift we don't need the J413 headlight range module, but the sensors plug in directly to J519 (BCM1), as stated:
    G78 (front level sensor)
-PIN1 (minus) goes to T17l of BCM1 pin 6 (0.35 sq mm wire)
-PIN2 (plus) goes to T17l of BCM1 pin 7 (0.35 sq mm wire)
    -PIN4 goes to T17l of BCM1 pin 11 (0.35 sq mm wire)
    G76 (rear level sensor)
-PIN1 (minus) needs to be soldered to front level sensor PIN1 wire, because it goes to BCM1 T17l pin 6 (also 0.35 sq mm wire)
-PIN2 (plus) needs to be soldered to front level sensor PIN2 wire, because it goes to BCM1 T17l pin 7 (also 0.35mm sq wire)
    -PIN4 goes to T17L of BCM1 pin 13

    Left HEADLIGHT wiring:
-PIN1 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17M PIN1, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN2 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17M PIN9, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN3 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17M PIN10, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN4 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17M PIN11, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN5 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN5 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It is a ground wire, same color (brown) and has the same thickness (1.0 sq mm wire)
-PIN6 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN6 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It's the same color (yellow+black) and has the same thickness (1.0 sq mm wire). This wire plugs in to BCM1 T17M PIN5, which is already there
-PIN7 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN7 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It is a ground wire, same color (brown), on old wiring it is 1.5 sq mm and on new wiring it is 1.0 sq mm, so we are ok
-PIN1 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN8 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It has the same thickness (0.35 sq mm) but different colors (old is green black, new is blue yellow). This wire plugs in to BCM1 T17M PIN6, which is already there. THIS IS ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITH SPECIAL EQUIPMENT (i think US) and it is for LEFT SIDE MARKER LIGHT. I did not wire it.
-PIN9 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN9 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It has the same color (black white) and has the same thickness (0.5 sq mm)
-PIN10 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN10 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It has the same color (grey black) and has the same thickness (0.5 sq mm)
-PIN11 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17M PIN3, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN12 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN2, it's a new wire and it is 0.5 sq mm

    Right HEADLIGHT wiring:
-PIN1 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN1, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN2 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN9, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN3 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN10, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN4 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN11, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN5 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN5 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It is a ground wire, same color (brown) and has the same thickness (1.5 sq mm wire)
-PIN6 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN15 (WHICH IS ALREADY PRESENT IN BCM1), but we need a new wire because the thickness should be 2.5 sq mm on xenon (and it is 1.5 sq mm on halogen). So use a 2.5 sq mm new wire
-PIN9 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN9 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It has same thickness (1.0 sq mm) but different color, old is green black, new is blue black
-PIN10 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN10 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It has the same color (grey red) and has the same thickness (1.0 sq mm)
-PIN11 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN9, it's a new wire and it is 0.35 sq mm
-PIN12 of new 14pin socket needs to go to BCM1 to T17N PIN4, it's a new wire and it is 1.0 sq mm
-PIN1 of old 10pin socket needs to go to PIN13 of new 14pin socket (cut the wire from old socket, solder to the new wire that goes to the new socket). It has the same thickness (0.35 sq mm) but different colors (old is green black, new is black violet). This wire plugs in to BCM1 T17M PIN4, which is already there. THIS IS ONLY FOR VEHICLES WITH SPECIAL EQUIPMENT (i think US) and it is for RIGHT SIDE MARKER LIGHT. I did not wire it.

After removing component protection with ODIS online (I have account), I coded 09 central electronics and everything works like it was from factory. I taped the whole wiring with TESA heat resistant tape and routed everything behing wheel liner and wing, like it's from factory. The unused wires from old 10pin socket were cut and removed. The rear sensor wiring was routed in car, under the floor all the way to the front at BCM1. Everything is in place and works like a charm. Find attached wiring diagrams + 2 pictures from the job.
