    Advice : allroad coilovers.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know there are other forums on going with one coilover over the other and so on. This is more of a price comparison for what you get and needing to know the initial drop on a stock allroad to coilovers set on high perch.

1st - for anyone who has put coilovers on their allroad did you simply go with the a4 avant coilovers as there is nothing other than H&R Springs currently for the allroad owner?

2nd - what is the drop and do you need new end links?

3rd - Now here starts the Audizine debate --- looking at going between Solo or ST - I know the ST seem to be a bit more stiff but balanced for canyon driving and more frequenting sprited driving. So, if I am budgeting under $1000.00 I have Solo coming in around $550, ST with rebate somewhere around $650, and then there are Vogtlands when on sale for the mid $700's. What advantages are there with going up the price groups say the extra $100 for ST or the extra $100 for vogtland's? I am not worried about corrision protection cause it Arizona it is the devil's armpit with rain that is enough to spit on your car just to show the dirt. Slamming the vehicle is not an option as I have a high pitched driveway and just want a more balanced vehicle to go with the upgraded performance.

Appreciate your help in this as I am now ready to pull the trigger on coilovers and new wheels/tire combo.

    Cheers.

Alright bud,I was in your situation only a few months ago.
I took the plung with Solowerkz coilovers and I was not disappointed.
My wheel spec is now 20x10 et 25 and my tyre size is 255/35/20.
I don't know about you but I use my car daily and the roads in the UK are pants, and I wanted to keep a little bit of comfort.
I think my set up is now spot on, as I can go 4 up with no problems, get very minimal tyre rub under heavy compression.

been doing the same research for the past couple of months. here's some other member's setups

What I gather are the ST = KW V1 = Vogtland avant coilover sets use the same dampers except the V1s have a stainless body (better corrosion/rust resistance) vs galvanized. Corrosion shouldn't be a huge concern since you're in the south and wouldn't have to worry about salted roads due to snow.

The only concern with the ST/KW setups are the rear springs sagging over time and being too low (personal preference) - not sure if this issue has been corrected for newer sets, but there are spring "spacers" released by KW to help mitigate the issue.

To the OP-- have you purchased anything? I've got a set of ST coils on order for my '13 Allroad which are due in this week. I have an appointment to have them installed next week at HS Tuning here in Cleveland, Ohio. I'm aware of the lack of coating/finish vs KW V1, but I don't drive my car that much in the winter. I keep cars on average 1-2 years, so really it won't matter as much to me in that period of time. And HS assured me they have a coating they can apply to the shocks to keep them in as good a shape as possible.

Anyhow, though I'll be sure to post up a full review once they are on the car, I was curious what route you decided to go since I have watched your thread here. ciao!

Ordered the ST's for the allroad and should be delivered tomorrow. I plan on doing the install myself and was wondering on the community's opinion as to going with SPC adjustable control arms. I have heard there might be more tire wear if I keep the stock control arms versus the SPC's.

Anyone please chime in on this one and your experience with tire wear either way.

    Another choice besides coilovers...

I run KW H.A.S. (Height Adjustable Springs) paired with Sachs Super Touring shocks. No pictures yet but I'm impressed with the ride and ability to get rid of the wheel gap.

Ended up going with the ST Coilovers. Ride is firmer but good, was not a fan of the bouncy/floaty suspension from the allroad oem. Adjustability is easy and install was actually very easy. Took me 5 hours, by myself in my garage, then after putting the suspension together and test driving I realized that I did not torque down the top nut/bolt to the proper torque setting. After taking all four corners off and then re-assembling the suspension it only took me 2 hours.

From what I have read the solo coilovers are good value but seem not to have the performance the ST's do in the corners. I have noticed a significant decrease in body roll by simply switching to the ST's, will be upgrading to a S4 rear sway bar in the future.

I highly suggest if you are planing on doing the install youself or have a shop do it to purchase new bolts prior as I had two that needed to be replaced simply from retorquing them.

Still have the OEM control arms and have been driving for a week or two but will need an alingment when I get the ride height dialed in. If you are planing on going LOW I would suggest you go with one of the aftermarket control arms.

If you have any questions PM me.

Do you have any photos of your rear suspension? How far up are the rears? I'm running the B8 A4 Avant rears and my rear is all the way up-- yet sits much lower than yours. Did you install the purple spacers? (you have to purchase them separately) -- just curious. I'm running 20s with tires that are ever so slightly oversized. But that doesn't necessarily explain our variation quite as large as it is. Interesting....
