I'm long time and avid Audi fan. I've just joined the club again with an Allroad - family grew with a daughter and a dog. It's the first time I'll be doing anything significant to one of my cars, and these forums have been invaluable thus far. I like an OEM look, and so nothing will be too drastic, though I've loved some of the great stuff others have done, it's just not for me. The Allroad is a good balance of the utility I need and the sportiness I want. And since my wife has a Q5 hybrid for the small amount of towing/dirt driving we do, I can take this Allroad to more of a "pavedroad".
Working with Makes & Models, I started with H&R Allroad specific springs, some 20X9 Ace Alloy Convex wheels in Hyper Silver wrapped in 275 Conti DWS tires, transitional (read legal) window tint, some vag-com stuff, and a failed attempt (my fault) to color-match my Thule Sonic Alpine roof box. I plan to fix the roof box with a paint job here soon.
I have the OEM 18" wheels and tires listed for sale in the classifieds and here $900
Observations: Suspension and wheels/tires really help this car feel more like my past cars (R8, S6), while not be so low as to scrape the front spoiler or look non-oem. The steering feels much better - though I still need to do the software update to address the "notchiness", body roll is improved, and overall ride is very good. The Thule Racks and Box are great, very minimal noise even at 80+, but you cannot open the roof.
Questions:
How can I disable the ESC? I can put it in "offroad"mode with one click of the ESC button. But holding it for 5 secs after that does nothing.
Future:
I'd like to do add a flat bottomed steering wheel, S/RS model shifter, piano black gauge surround, and some engine perf mods. All in due time. I will also be adding better photos soon.
Happy 2014!
