All-new high-torque 2.0 TFSI engine is a perfect fit for Audi A5

All-new high-torque 2.0 TFSI engine is a perfect fit for Audi A5

  • Latest Turbo FSI engine joins Audi coupé range and reiterates that fun and frugality are far from mutually exclusive
  • All-new Turbo FSI engine is based on 1.8 TFSI from new A4, but adds Audi valvelift technology for improved engine ‘breathing’ to maximize performance and efficiency
  • 211PS @ 4,300 to 6,000rpm, 350Nm @ 1,500-4,200rpm
  • A5 2.0 TFSI 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds, top speed 155mph, combined mpg 42.8, CO2 154g/km
A newly developed Turbo FSI petrol engine available from this week for the Audi A5 provides the sought-after coupe with yet another choice blend of pace and pence-per-mile efficiency. The new 211PS A5 2.0 TFSI can be ordered in either front-wheel-drive or quattro permanent all-wheel-drive forms, and will reach its first European customers in August.

The new high-tech 2.0-liter unit is derived from the already much praised 1.8 TFSI engine introduced recently in A3, A4 and A5 models, but takes its efficiency a step further still through the use of new Audi valvelift technology. By employing sliding cam units mounted on the intake camshaft that allow for more variation in the degree of valve lift, the engine is able to ‘breathe’ even more effectively, switching to a higher cam profile when strong acceleration is required, or a lower profile that requires less fuel and air compression when throttle usage is more relaxed.

Another Audi one-two-three-four win at Zandvoort

Another Audi one-two-three-four win at Zandvoort

July 13, 2008 - Courtesy of Audi AG

  • Mattias Ekström celebrates second win of the season
  • Runner-up Timo Scheider extends overall lead
  • Tom Kristensen and Martin Tomczyk complete the quartet
Ingolstadt/Zandvoort – Audi showed a dominant performance at the sixth DTM round at Zandvoort and, like last year, celebrated a one-two-three-four victory in the Netherlands. It was the new Audi A4 DTM’s best result so far and Audi’s 45th victory in the DTM. One day before his 30th birthday, title defender Mattias Ekström celebrated his second exploit of the season, after winning the season opener at Hockenheim. Following the twelfth DTM triumph of his career, the two-time champion is now the best Audi driver in DTM history.

Mattias Ekström had prepared the ground for his victory the day before: by clinching his dominant tenth pole, he had secured the top grid position, which he perfectly converted into the lead in the race straight at the start. During the two pit stops the Swede – with his Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline – defended his lead as well, ahead of his team colleague Timo Scheider, who had started the race from position two on the grid.

Towards the end of the round staged on the North Sea coast Timo Scheider increasingly made up ground, but Ekström clinched his second win of the season with a 0.270-second advantage over his team-mate. Scheider extended his lead in the standings from one to five points. He is followed in the championship by Mattias Ekström, who bumped Mercedes driver Jamie Green from second place.

July 08 Featured AZer: ultimatetaba8s 2007 A3 Sportback

Just noticed something. It looks like we have a theme going with our recent Featured AZ'ers, a very patriotic theme. Nearly the last half dozen cars have been either red, white, or blue. Fitting for this month I suppose, if you're an American. But I digress. One thing these cars certainly do have in common, aside from the four-ringed logo, is that they all stand out in a crowd. This month's featured ride especially, as there just aren't a ton of A3s out there. When one's done well (and Jason's ride is done very, very well) it draws some attention.

Jason, who goes by the username ultimatetaba8 here on The Zine, has created one good looking hatchback. With a definite OEM+ style of modding, he's taken his A3 to a whole other level. The parts have been carefully selected to add just the right look to the areas that were sort of lacking a bit from factory. Yet the best part is that a lot of the new pieces were actually from the factory at some point; on some car, in some part of the world. From the front lip off a Seat Cupra R and the blacked-out grille treatment, to the brushed aluminum trim and ashtray delete on the interior, it all just fits perfect and looks great! That's the beauty of using OEM parts, especially when used properly.

Aside from the factory-spec mods though, a number of other very tasteful aftermarket parts can be found on the car as well. One may notice the quite aggressive stance obtained from the Koni Coilovers, bringing those sexy 19 inch anthracite BBS CK wheels oh so close to the smoldering red fenders of the A3. For pumping up the ponies, Jason turned to the fellas at Neuspeed for their P-Chip ECU tuning and a P-Flo intake. These are just some of the highlights on what's an already stunning car. With such a wonderfully supportive Audi-loving family, we're assured that there's a lot more in store for Jason's A3. Shoot, from the sounds of it, we may also be featuring his dad's A4 on here sometime soon!

A Q&A Session with Matrix Integrated

A Q&A Session with Matrix Integrated

June 9, 2007 - By Anthony Marino and Jeremy Williams

Physical Location: 4000 SW Macadam Ave, Portland, OR 97239
Web Address: www.matrixintegrated.cc
Owner's Name(s): Jeremy and Justin Williams

Jumping into the German tuning scene in the late 90's, brothers Jeremy and Justin Williams have made quite a name for themselves. Now with a total staff of five, in a huge warehouse-style shop in Portland Oregon, these guys pride themselves on both quality tuning and great customer service. Hanging out with the guys for a day, this becomes apparent rather fast.

The "Brothers Williams" came to my attention back in early 2002, when they were mainly wrenching on B5 after B5, in a much smaller shop than they're in now. It's great to see them as passionate as ever about the business, one that's changed and grown quite a lot since then. Portland is awfully lucky to have these guys around.

Big thanks to Matrix Integrated for agreeing to do this interview, and for being a loyal supporter of the Audizine Community for as long as they have. For this we've made them our very first Featured Tuner, and with that they have answered the following questions for us, to help us get a bit of insight on what it takes to run a successful and respected automotive tuning shop. And if you're ever in the Pacific Northwest be sure to give them a call. I'm pretty sure they'd be happy to not only show you around, but also tell you what they could do to improve on your Audi.   Full Story
