SPOILER (car as it is currently):

Original post:

Hi all. You may have noticed my incessant comments lately on your threads. (Beautiful cars, by the way.) Sorry I haven't officially introduced myself til now!

Long story short, this happened to my S4 in June:

Not fun. And not my fault! But it did give me a chance to start fresh and try things from a new perspective. I loved having four doors, but wasn't utilizing them like I imagined I might've. And I started feeling like I was giving up maybe a little too much in cool-factor for that unnecessary convenience when comparing the S4 to say, an S5. Which we all know...is cooler. I mean, unquestionably, right?? You guys are biased, don't answer that. At any rate, I don't have kids yet so the time to jump ship is now!

On to the present: I have a Daytona Grey 2013 S5 on order due in November or so. Premium plus, magma inserts, pretty much every option except ADS and 19" peelers since I plan to use the 18" stockers for winter duty and I'll get some aftermarket 19" wheels for summer. Which was exactly what my plan was for my S4. It worked out dandily except for the fact that my car never got to see snow in the one winter it survived. I feel like it died before baptism and I'll just never know if it went to car heaven or car H-E-double hockey sticks.

My mods as planned will be:

Spacers. I've seen 15/20 suggested for stock 19's. Question: that'll change for the 18" wheels as they're skinnier right? Or am I basically dealing with the same offset mumbo jumbo etc? I'd love any input from the A/S5 fitment gurus.

Lowering. Thinking about PSS10's or something that will allow height adjustment but still maintain/improve the ride and handling. I want looks and performance and have heard nothing but great things about the Bilstein setup. I'm sure the Ohlins setup is worth considering but the cost and maintenance scare me a bit. This is one thing I want to do early as I never got the chance to see the S4 lowered the way God intended. And then un-lowered for the mountains in winter.

Stabilization. Question 2: Will the Eurocode sway bars I salvaged from the S4 fit on the S5? Or from B8 to B8.5? I'm under the impression that the sways will fit but the Alu Kreuz wouldn't even if I'd scavenged it. I loved loved loved those mods and can't wait for an updated Alu Kreuz piece.

Wheels. If I find I can afford it, I'll be after some fancy forged numbers. I've got some fitment qeustions here too.

And a teaser for my first guaranteed fit mod that's sitting in my closet :) (betcha can guess what it is!):

Looking forward to being part of your community and always down to meet up with other Bay Area folks.

Congrats and nice intro. Sounds like you have good sense....refreshing. Happy to help in any way. As for the 18's, could not say without knowing the width and offset. I know there is an 18x8.5 et29 which would be the same as the 19's but I have also seen an 18x8 et35ish.

Yeah it's hard to miss this part of town when you're trying to get from one side to the other. =P I'm a lot more wary coasting through those lower Gough intersections now.

Thank'e. Trying to look at the bright side. It's getting easier and easier as November gets closer :) Wheels are Titanium flavor BBS CH-R 19x9.5 et 45. Pretty good A/S4 fitment but I was getting tired of the stretched look they required to fit. I want to avoid stretch best I can when I buy wheels for the S5.

Yeah I need to track down the stock 18" dimensions. I never got around to spacing out my stock 18's on my S4 because I had the BBS's ready to go when the car got here. But they LOOKED like they tucked in about the same as the stock 19's and would need the same amount of offset correction...I haven't been around the 5 scene long enough to know what the deal is for their stockers. I'll be searching through some old threads to see what I can find. Been loving your build thread Mops! Your car is bitchen.

Saw your car on the S4 forum in May and PM'd you about your wheels. Real sorry - your S4 was such a great color.
I'm new and have been lurking for some time. Waiting for my S5 around labor day. I'll post a build thread as soon as I take delivery.
I've purchased the same wheels you had on your S4, only in an ET 35.
Were you running the 255/35/19 that had a stretch look? I was going to use the same size OEM rubber on the BBS, but am now thinking I should move up a size to 265/35/19 and Sell the OEM Peelers with the tires.

I remember. Glad you got the wheels; I really love the style and the deeper offset A/S5 fitment versions look even better. Yeah I was on 255/35 Michelin PSS with that wheel. If I'd had the room I'd have gone 265 for sure. But you know, I think the stretch look really only bugged me because I wasn't lowered. Look at Phil@detailersdomain or now Massey -- that stretch disappears when it's tucked under the fender. At stock height tire stretch just adds to the fender gap because you can see further up in there than you could with a square sidewall. Totally subjective.

Lol, cats are shady little fukers.
A mild stretch is a nice look with an aggressive drop and necessary as well. I like my 275 on 10.5. What width are you guys speaking about? Brick, visit the chatterthread sometime...you would fit right in;)

Talking about 255/35 on a 19x9.5" wheel. I still need to get used to a world where 10.5 is even doable. That's the major area where the 4 is lacking comparatively. But I'm starting to learn it's not the width of the wheel that matters so much but the offset/tire combo. I'll check out the chatterbox!

Not sure I have seen a 255 on 9.5. I have run 255 on 9, 275 on 9.5, 10 and 10.5. But yea a stretch without an aggressive drop could look awkward. I run super sports and they run wide so my stretch is mild for sure. 265 would look better on 9.5 at stock height or even say a 1" drop. 10.5 is cake. ET 30 on 275 and you can go LOW. Thank you for the compliment earlier!

Thanks for the advice. I'm ordering a set of the Michelin Pilot Super Sport in 265/35/19 for the BBS CH-R 19 x 9.5.

Tire calculator says the diameter is 26.3" vs. 26.03" stock for a -1.05% speedo error.

And my winters will be a 235/40/19 which sizes up nicely at 26.4"

Still working out the details on the drop and spacers after I install the KW H.A.S.

Mops: you have either done it or seen it on seemingly every set-up - is the KW setup still working well for you?

Thanks for the Noob advice - I need it

265/35 should work really well, provide some extra cushion and look better with a bit taller tire. You will love that tire btw. I actually ran 255/35/20 at one point lol. As for spacers, my CK's were et36 and I ran 15mm f and 20mm r with no issues and could have done 20/25 easily. I have not run the HAS setup...I run H&R c/o but have heard great things. Crisp74 and mxrz in the chatterthread run it and could answer questions if you have any.
Sorry Mr. Oven...will take this to pm or chatter:)

Thanks again. Heard nothing but great reviews on the pss tires. Forgot to include that the 234/40/19 Michelin PA4 winters will be on Hartmann HTT-256-MA-M 19 x 8.5". I think I'm OK with a 235 on an 8.5" rim, but welcome anyone's input.

Welcome to the S5 gang!

Hope to see you at some meets.
Thanks! I look forward to it.

Been a really long summer waiting for the S5. Ordered it May 24, original delivery was Sept. 24, but now moved up to Aug. 24 in port, and "around labor day" to the dealer. I see lots of beautiful cars getting delivered on this and the B8 S4 forum, and it's got me drooling.

Caution! Dinky 18" wheel content!

Got to pick up the car on Friday, super stoked!

aaaand the obligatory "greyscale except for the red emblem" shot. Can we please stop hating on the new front end? It doesn't look quite as butch as the pre-facelift but I won't hear any more of the "not as aggressive" argument.

So far my impressions are...well it's pretty much the same car as my S4 was. Love the steering wheel and the leather interior. Truthfully I'm not sure whether I like the feel of it much more than the alcantara, and I'm still getting used to seeing
so much RED!!! when I open the door, but it feels pretty damn swank. And I'm pretty happy with the exterior/interior color combo.

One thing I'm not so sure about is the new steering rack. Maybe I'm only remembering the effect Alu Kreuz piece had on the old car, but I'm feeling some slop/vagueness at center in the new car that I don't like. Also, it feels way more
overly-assisted especially at low speeds than the pre-facelift rack did. I've heard that's actually configurable via vag-com. I would love to be able to find some option that would let me just turn down the assist overall. Any experts know
if that's possible?

And obviously, the 18" wheel thing leaves something to be desired. But I don't DISlike their design and until I can decide how much money I'm willing to spend on replacements, I have something to help ease the pain:

[IMG][/IMG]

Speaking of lowering, has anyone had any trouble with noise with the SPC control arms? It'll be my first experience with really playing with a car's suspension and I've heard ball/socket joints like those on the SPC arms can make noise.
Would love to hear any input on that.

I'll be posting new shots as the car progresses.

Peace out homies.

Congrats, looks great! I thought it was moonlight from the first couple pics. Never really seen DG in low lighting. Interior Wheel design is not bad at all, just a bit peasant like in size;) PSS10, vely nice.

Re: Brick Oven's B8.5 S5

I have the SPC arms and I don't hear any noise. In fact my car feels like it runs smoother.

Nice car by the way. Congrats!

I'm under the impression that the sways will fit but the Alu Kreuz wouldn't even if I'd scavenged it. I loved loved loved those mods and can't wait for an updated Alu Kreuz piece.
Sway bars will fit with zero issues (we run them on our 2013 S5). We have a Alu Kreuz for the 2013MY and will be releasing it very soon. It makes a HUUUUGE difference on the face lift cars with electric steering.

Welcome back, Brick Oven. Sad to see the S4 ended that way (it was the car that convinced me to order the RS 5 in Suzuka).

Yes they are of plebeian stature aren't they. I'm a guy that likes some meaty sidewalls so they don't bother me too bad. I kind of wish they came with wider rubber. I like the transitive nature of DG. Kinda like Suzuka, it can look so different depending on the light. Up close in sunlight all you can see is metallic fleck. Sparkly.

Awesome. I don't need to be DD'ing around in a clanky race car.

Yay Eurocode! My wallet hates you so bad but my heart totally hearts you.

Awww brings a tear to my eye. I can only imagine what a Suzuka RS5 looks like in person. It was all the press pictures of the pre-facelift RS5's in that color that convinced me to get it for my S4. Post some more pics! =P

Side note for the moderators: How come the thread got formatted all wide? It wasn't like that at first. Sucks having to side scroll all the time.

Would love to hear any input on that.

No issues here, but I think Wah had some issues with fitment on his A5. Ride looks great BTW!

Sorry about your S4, it even looks good in the smashed up pics. The new car is beautiful Brick!
Im dying to see what it looks like on the stock rims lowered and with spacers.
I have the same rims and im trying to figure out what spacers will make them look the best.
Your post earlier said you were unsure of the offset. Our stock 18" have an ET29. Does anyone(Mops) know which size spacer is best?
And if anyone is curious, I put a break in each line because of the side scrolling format of this thread.
Reading the thread drove me nuts so it should be easier to read my post this way

You'll really like the PSS10s. I really like the adjustment ability.

As for the SPC control arms. I can't confirm if this is really what is suggested but can believe it. Apparently you needed to grind down the edges as it comes in contact with the fender seem as someone else mentioned to me. I haven't done this but can see that they have hit the seem as the edge has been sheared off. I do hear similar sounds but only when l'm reversing and turning up a grade.

Don't think you can go wrong with this combo and he ease to switch the handle in just a few minutes.
