    C7.5 Round 2!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Been meaning to start a build thread. My 2016 Stage 3 S6 was quietly parted out in 2017. Big ups to madyspop for handling it all, was a lot easier to just take pictures of parts and ship things out than to handle negotiating pricing on all the parts. Miss that car, was solid and never felt compromised. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...016-S6-Stage-3

Parting it out was from work life balance being well out of whack. Got a little more balance last year but didn't seem like remodding the same car again was ideal or logical. So the hunt was on for something else. Ordered a Suzuka RS5, with every option including Alcantara after seeing the initial launch cars were all without Drivers Assistance which meant no top view parking. In the mean time drove a RS3, RS5, TTRS, looked at a few other brands and nothing was compelling. Canceled the RS5 order after realizing I'm not a coupe guy, and the sales were really bad meaning really bad depreciation, with the slow sales the custom order came in before it could be canceled.

Could never stomach the new car depreciation of the RS7 so facelift cars starting becoming more available but the dam PODS hold was holding up inventory. Many many comfort seating cars available but limited number of sport seats. A few possible cars around the country popped up but the really good ones sold quickly. UW Audi posted a 2016 RS7 Performance with 12.2k miles, which was intriguing for under 90k ask, sales guy told me over email if I wanted to buy it sight unseen since it was going to be in prep for a few days before sale. I laughed, I wanted the opposite of the black car which would be several thousands to wrap. Buying locally would save me flying out to see a car and shipping.

Pretty much had me at hello but resisted committing. Achtuning did a PPI, no VIN in the APR database (check), turbo lines all dry (check), no signs of body disassembly (check), and suspension bolts never touched (check)

Car was not a lease, from what UW Audi tells me the previous owner was a construction company owner and based on the miles it was a pleasure car. 30 months from new it basically saw 400 miles a month and the maintenance records were on perfect for my liking. I don't drive much like this previous owner, my S6 was traded in with under 11k miles.

2016 Mythos Black RS7 Performance: Alcantara, B&O and Drivers Assistance. From reading and gathering, the US Performance model standard differences are below.

    Overboost 605HP/553TQ vs 560HP/512TQ
    190mph top speed vs. 174mph
    DRC spring suspension
    420/370 Ceramic Brakes
    Red boost gauge
Drive Select button on the steering wheel
    Soft Close Doors
    21" 5 Double Arm wheels

I'm a pay it forward person when possible with knowledge and info, the general culture on this forum is pretty good with some very helpful enthusiasts sharing their passion. Noticed we lost some old timers and some performance heads, we all start into a platform only knowing so much so while influxes of new owners can bring up repetitive questions it's all a net positive to help each other out.

Less blah blah, more mods. OK!

Love the forums for used wheels, one of the highest priced mods you can do that depreciates like no other. Instantaneous 40-50% loss in value unless you find the right buyer at the right time

Found a set of the newer HRE caps, if anyone has had HREs before the older flat caps spin. HRE logo should be straight with the valve at 6 o'clock, I'm OCD enough to always want it that way and have the wheel lock at 12 o'clock

Black cars in the dark hide the massive wheel gap. 21x9.5" HRE P101, +22 and +27 offsets, Brushed tint. Wanted to get some lip protection and better than 6 sized side wall so running 285/30-21 Michelin PSS. Them dam side markers in the bumpers are ugly, most regions outside of North America don't even have the openings front and rear for those lights.

Cete Valve controller to get a bit more control out of the valves.

Had to take it in for some Warranty work. MMI button was 60-70% of the time working to select, this was just a bad button. SIM card slot seemed to never work for the previous owner. Data history showed a few KB so ended up with a new MIB, needed to try to update maps over the air but it was too far out of date for over the air. More photos and info on USB update over here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post13523311

Tag Side Markers finally came in. So much wheel gap!

Parts started piling up at home. Needed to dig out so KW HAS, Eurocode Alu Kreuz and sways, 034 inserts all installed at Achtuning. Quick alignment, nothing terribly out of whack. More photos and info on DRC over here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...fo-and-options

Dynamic sweeping mirrors. More photos here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post13411227

P3 with Trackpack, seeing post charge cooler IATs is a huge plus. the heatsoak after parking these cars is eye opening.

Carbon endcaps. Cheap mod, German seller wraps oem panels. https://www.ebay.de/usr/e.h.exklusiv...p2047675.l2559

Carplay box! Very worthwhile, most OEM NAV systems feel or operate in a dated manner as tech moves forward. More photos and info here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post13433159

RS7 mats from across the pond. Have only seen hints of Audi Sport Exclusive RS7 mats but never really seen them. Pricing from a friend at Audi was going to be $800. No thanks.

Added Euro Dynamic tails from Alex@Eurorpice.

Was lucky and got a Basser sub enclosure, JL amp and sub plus the OEM panel already cut. Had to have a friend meet up in DC to pick up and parts and ship to me, the panel is incredibly odd shaped. Prior to this had meddled with adding a different sub which raised the bass a little but not enough boom. The B&O is crisp and clear but not bass heavy.

Waited patiently for Mike's Customs downpipes, took them to coating.
    Good thread here https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ike%27s+custom
    And here https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ike%27s+custom

PODS warranty work had a long out schedule at Audi Bellevue which is my preferred dealer. Helpful peeps here said Tacoma was scheduling much faster, Kelly at Achtuning said wait to do engine mods if PODS work was to be done, which saved me from getting TD1 flagged. Had the oiling system updated to new parts while the downpipes were getting put in. Clean screen, replaced the easy to access stuff while they were in there so I have peace of mind for tuning.

Straight to stage 2, if there was a stage 3 setup ready I would've done that but not going to play the waiting for a tuner game while your car is hobbled.

Got a Melen ZF8 TCU Tune going.

Live in a condo in the city so only so much space being solo cholo.

Some good stuff coming from Europe.

    Audi Sport Akrapovic!

Why the Audi Sport version? Initially I was going to get the regular version, but seeing some fake tips start to show up I wanted the Audi Sport tips which are $1200 so just got the Audi Sport version thinking the price difference between the 2 versions was all tips. This is incorrect, I noticed a few months back Akrapovic was showing new uncatted downpipes and 2x versions of the stainless link pipes from the downpipes to the main exhaust.
    Audi Sport link pipes https://www.akrapovic.com/en/car/pro...52&yearId=4233
    Evolution link pipes https://www.akrapovic.com/en/car/pro...52&yearId=4233

Laying out the system I noticed this is different from other Akrapovics I have seen and even from my own pictures of the S car Akrapovic.

Stay with me. Notice the orientation of the forward resonators. Audi Sport compared to Akrapovic Evolution on my S6

Audi Sport likely spec'd some changes on the Akrapovic for fitment, straight into the resonators would be less likely there is a sealing issue at the link pipe connection. Another difference, notice the location of the clamps after the suitcase. Offset stubbs from the suitcase, again I think this is a fitment and install change to keep clamps at different positions and not interfere with each other.

These are not just S car to RS car differences.
Standard Evolution Akrapovic piping on a RS7.

Such a perfect pairing, it's a pig snout but it's a sexy snout.

Cold start and warm start. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs0mdY4h...on_share_sheet

Have had a Dragy since I purchased the car but never even opened the box. Closed course in Mexico, just running the 93 tune.

R8 Oil and Coolant caps, bonafyd messaged me after seeing me post it was installed saying the other caps out there do not click when installing it and he is correct so pulled it off. Porsche coolant cap also does not click closed, from research the A8 coolant cap is black which might be the next one to try.
    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...er-pump-thread

Found a set of ashperical, heated and dimmed mirrors on full assemblies from Europe. Experimenting with the lowers, the mirrors were a plus.

Have had the SRM long tubes since I got all the other stuff from Eurocode last year,

Blaming peer pressure/logic by IowaRS7 into buying an Eventuri and hacking the SRM tubes down. SRM tubes to be cut down in the near future.

Carbon Fieber full carbon rear spoiler. Fitment is pretty good, the guide pin holes need to be made on the CF, and the OEM bolts were a hair long so stainless split ring lock washers and thread lock used to secure it. Would hate to have the thing fly off at speed and hurt someone.

I don't take very many pictures of the full car, it's a black RS7 so only so different for now.

Have the CWA100 pump and Forge Heat Exchanger to install soon. CWA pump info here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...er-pump-thread

Planning the next round of mods, will see how far this build goes.

    4/1 update
    Audi Sport beams.

    SRM long tubes chopped down

BC Forged EH307 21x10.5 +35 square, Matte Gunmetal. 3 weeks from ordering to my door.

    At Achtuning picking up parts

Used Right Away Tire service to get them mounted, good guys that are careful with your stuff. Their van didn't fit in my parking structure so they found a spot on a quieter street to do it.

    Washer cap https://www.ecstuning.com/b-racingli...vwr19g704~vwr/

    4/7 update
Matrix LED lights from Europe. More info here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...front-and-rear

OEM CarPlay from a firmware update through a Taobao shop. More info here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...arPlay-actived!

    Reserved for more stuff

    4/27 update
Installed Auto Brake button. More info here. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...-Hold-Retrofit

Had installed the CWA100 and Forge Heat exchanger a few weeks ago. Noticed an immediately elevated IATs. Design of the Forge heat exchanger is to be mounted to a new crash bar that brings the heat exchanger forward in the bumper/grill.

The height isn't the issue with airflow, it's that it is so far forward in the bumper/grille area it blocks the intake snorkel inlet.
With CF diverter panel that comes with the Eventuri for visual about where the snorkel inlet is.

    Stock

    With Forge heat exchanger installed.

    5/25 update
A8 coolant cap, clicks when closed as opposed to the Porsche and R8 caps that don't click closed. Part number 5Q0121321

    Metal wheel hanger

    19mm 10 point Caliper carrier socket. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Xpel clear bra for front end, GTechniq Ceramic Coating and Calipers yellow.

Have been on the hunt for these wheels. 4G0601025CD 20x9.5 ET21 from C7 RS6, quite hard to find and only available in Europe. Happened upon photos of these on a RS6 with 420mm CCBs so had a better idea if they would clear the big brakes or not.

Very concave profile and lower offset compared to standard RS7 20x9 ET35

Set from Europe. Thanks madyspop for the shipping assist!!!

Test fit, about 5mm clearance to the highest point of the calipers.

More power for sure, waiting to see what the next wave of turbos with tunes are available. There is also a crazy 4.0TT getting done up in the NW, if anyone is going to blow up a ZF8 it's going to be that guy.

Have some other stuff in the oven to see if they pan out, will post success or failure once more parts from Europe come in.

How does the tcu tune feel on the ZF, do you know what changes they make over standard? I’ve driven the Rs5 with the ZF 8 speed and they feel Like completely different gearboxes, the tune in the RS5 makes it feel more like a dsg, which I like.

I remember this! Happy to be back at it, without something to obsess about I do really dumb things.

I keep missing the meets, out of country most of March. Spring needs to get here, the clear days like this weekend are such a tease.

I drove the 2018 RS5 coupe, LOVED how drastically different Comfort was to Dynamic. The TCU tune can be set how you want it. D is mostly left alone, S shifts really fast like the DSG without the weird low speed stuff, M is the difference in the Dragy runs above. Only did a couple of launches, was expecting to light the tires up but it hooked pretty well. Full AMAX is something to experience, having heard it in person it is easy to tell if you hit the launch right.

The C7 RS6/7 are using the ZF8-HP90, not sure which ZF the B9 RS5 is using would guess the 70 or 75. This is a good video to check out.

Nice mods and clean setup. That's how I like it and will be doing the same on this new car as I did the last. The warranty really holds me back from doing much and the S6 tax for parts is insane. So I'll be looking for people parting out that same intake, full exhaust and wheels. We will see how long I can hold out before I just buy it.

Part outs can be treasure troves! Gotta be quick sometimes though, we have eager beavers here on the hunt for parts too.

The space within the R is not weird in person, think it is the nap showing or looking weird. I thought the sheen or darker color of the mats would bother me but they are decent for premade mats.

Good choice! The C7 is great for all around use, you can spend as much as you don't want to on go fast upgrades! What color?

It is a bit easier having already known a lot of the parts and mods available. But also plenty of new experience opportunities with shifting to DRC and ZF type stuff. Looking forward to when more owners can get our grubby hands on Stage 3 power!

Miss that build! If I would've kept building it, metal widebody would've been on the docket. Carry on the Glacier white and yellow brake torch! You'll love RS turbo power.

Amazing. Thank you for all of your time putting this thread together.

While I use sports mode a lot of the time in my RS6, I would really like to make D mode be one gear lower than it normally is stock. I wonder how hard that would be to do with HPTuner.

You're one of those guys I mentioned about knowledgeable people helping others out, thank you man!

For the trans, pretty sure the D program can be altered. Melen2120 or p3u would be able to answer that since they are HP Tuners guys. I find the RS ZF trans program to be quite different from the S cars, from memory the S cars if you put it into Sport mode from the gear shifter it eventually goes back to D on it's own where the RS ZF seems to let you stay in Sport as long as you want to. Wish our DIS would do the R8 thing, (can't find the thread) where it would show SM or MS based on you going into M from Sport.

Do you mean like the image below or something different? When I added the r8 controls I was able to add this functionality using vcds. Let me know if this is what you mean and I can probably find it again (or andre may remember as I sent him the info at some point)

Have that one! This is the one I was referring to, I remember someone on here had a brief discussion about how the R8 shows you a bit more info. Essentially Manual mode from Sport mode first or something like that was another type of trans map.

Thanks for your kind words and the information. Yes, knowing which M mode you're in would be useful. Most people don't even know that going into manual mode from S or D makes a difference, especially in an S6/7. In the RS the exhaust sound pretty much tells you which mode you are in.
