Nice work, should be a good build, very similar to mine. If you need a torque plate for boring the motor we've got one being passed around.

No problem man, one thing to consider if you plan on going to a much bigger turbo you may want to go ahead with boring to 83.5 and doing pistons/rods at the same time. Its easier to do all at once.

I was wonder about that, but how much would that change the car, with just running a K03? What does the compression ration change to? What pistons are you going with?

Looking forward to this!!! Definitely sub'd!

I'm a bit confused though. You said you are getting drop-in rods but also you are getting bored? To my knowledge there aren't any pistons for the FSI that work with drop in rods. I may be wrong but definitely look into piston rod combo's before you go further. I ran into a similar issue.

Integrated will sell you 1 of 3
1.) Drop in rods - for use with only stock pistons
2.) H beam rods - capable of 700hp and works with aftermarket pistons
3.) I beam rods(tuscan) - capable of over 1000hp and works with aftermarket pistons.

#1 has the same design as #2, the differentiating factor is that #1 has a tapered entry where the rod connects to the piston. If you look at a stock piston, the area where it connects to the stock rod is not exactly a flat fit, it is more like a wedge, this is why our stock rods are also wedge shaped to fit. Most Piston manufacturers use a square entry, meaning not shaped for a wedge entry, which means that drop in rods will not work with aftermarket pistons.

What it means is that if you choose:
#1 : you can only run stock pistons, or you will have to get new rods and pistons.
#2 : You will have to buy the rods and pistons because stock pistons won't work in a #2 rod.
#3 : Same as #2, but with more strength, and also has rifle drilling for extra oiling to the bearings.

Not sure what you did and we haven't spoke in a while, but I hope you did your research! I ran into quite a lot of problems fitting my wossners into IE's tuscan rods because I was not prepared. Luckily Wossner had shipped me incorrectly labeled pistons and everything worked out beautifully in the end.

You might notice less power with the k03 because of a slightly lower (9.5to1) compression ratio. With a lower ratio you can push the turbo harder. Im going to be breaking my motor in with a k04, then swapping up to something bigger.

Drop in rods will only work with stock pistons, if youre boring the block instead of just honing it, you will need new pistons and rods. I went with mahle pistons and IE rods.

My bad guys, I meant hone. Since I will be running a K03 until I get a bigger turbo, I'll stick with just drop-in-rods. Maybe upgrade the valve train next time.

I'd be down to meet up. I'll be driving my awesome civic though.

Side note, change of plans I'll be putting in IE 144X20 Rods and 83mm JE pistons with a 9.5:1 CR and boring the block.

^^ Exactly. This whole build is based on "oh since you are doing this you might as well put this other part in".

This stage of the build is as far as I can go without blowing through my contingency budget.

I don't think cam tower, as the shoulders On them won't fit the three bolts nearest the vacuum pump.

There are, I just called to confirm. I wonder if the three bolts in the middle of the package are the specificity ment to go near the vacuum pump?

I hate that integrated called them that! Cam girdle bolts sounds so much more appropriate. I bought three sets of these bolts, definitely could have used some reusable ARP's if I knew they existed.

Yeh, it's the best of both worlds!!!!! Ideally the best EFR for our car!!!! Better find a shop to get 1st in line with though. AGP, Full-Race, RAI, and I think Treadstone would be good places to start.

I feel like everyone is under the impression that the gtx won't work under 20 psi, but to be fair, at 20 psi a gtx will blow a k03 out of the water. The issue is that a gtx is most efficient at higher boost such as 25psi, that's where the juice starts flowing, but the turbo is solid, it's still will put down a good amount of power below 25 psi. Much more than any k03 would. It's not like the CHRA is just frozen until 25psi builds, its all progressive.

The thing people miss is that the GTX isn't just more efficient at higher boost levels, check the compressor charts, it is more efficient EVERYWHERE.
