Vossen CV3s and H&R Street Performance Coilovers Finally Installed (A few pics)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I received my Vossen CV3s, which I ordered through the group buy arranged by Tag Motorsports. It was a great deal. I dealt with Alex and John at Tag, who were both knowledgeable, helpful and responsive. I also ordered my AWE track exhaust through them and they hands down beat all of the other prices I found. I was going to have my wheels and coilovers installed by a local shop, but I reached out to the AZ Rocky Mountain community and Jordan (ThatA4T) and a few other Denver guys helped me with the install, which was adventurous as we had a few hiccups along the way. Nonetheless, it came out fine. Excuse the dirty car as I didn't have time to wash it before snapping these photos.

    Specs: Wheels - 20x10.5 ET30 all around. Tires - 285/30-20 Hankook Ventus V12.

After practically having it slammed (the pics don't show how low the rears settled overnight), I decided to raise the coilovers up a bit until I can roll my fenders. Then I'm going to lower them about .5 to 1 inch. I might also toss some 5mm spacers on the rears. Some more pics after raising it are below.

Nice! Went with the 285s? I don't think you'll be able to fit a 5mm spacer back there without rubbing.

Thanks, Ben. There are a few B5s that AZ member ThatA4T is working on. I told him that when I posted these pics people would be more interested in the B5 than the CV3s. Ha. A few pics of his rebuild are below.

Victorious1, great finish! Sometimes I wish I got a darker color car so I can get cool wheel finishes like this. Do you have a shot of the front? In the pics the fit looks very aggressive. I would be very curious to know what your alignment specs are. Do you plan on doing this any time soon? Oh yeah, buff those tires man! Wheels and a car this nice do not deserve such dusty tires!

looks great! love the finish. no way you can ride at that height right now, that front is WAY too tight with the 285's. turns won't be possible, lol. it also looks like you may get some rubbing in the rear, too.

i know i rub on hard dips in the rear with 5mm spacers and on hard cornering up front with 275s.

I saw it in person (I was in the silver B6 avant as you were leaving) and it's gorgeous.

I could have swore your front rings were black, however. Maybe they were just out when I saw you? Maybe I'm just crazy and don't know what I'm talking about.

    Anyhow, great looking car!

tboooe, thanks. I ordered an orbital, that nanoscrub and some Wolfgang's on Mops orders. I'll be doing a full detail hopefully next weekend if I get a second. So the dusty tires will be a thing of the past. I plan on having the alignment done this week as well. I've got some negative camber up front from the looks of it, but I'm not sure the specs. What were your specs again? That's why we need 10+ people to go in on these adjustable control arms.

Yeah, I had to raise the fronts. We raised the rears as well so as not to have (reverse) rake. It feels like the rear fenders come rolled. I'm not sure why they don't just roll the fronts as well. It couldn't hurt.

Thanks. I saw your B6 as I was leaving and almost turned around. Your right, I had the rings off as I was debating plasti dipping it and clearcoating it the same colors as my wheels, but I think it might clash with the chrome accents on the grille. I actually like the look of the grille with black rings, but I'm not sure if with black rings the chrome accents will need to be blacked out as well.

HA HA...just pulling our leg man. Our cars are so nice it great to see them detailed out. I just got some gtechniq C1+ sealant. Check them out. Their products are supposed to be awesome!

As for alignment, mine is -2.36R/-1.67L but my car is not as low as yours. We are up to 11 people now! I am going to see if we can get up to 15 people and get more discounts. I plan on ending this group buy in 1-2 weeks.

Thanks. Yeah, I went with the 285s as I wanted the slightly meatier tire and like how yours looked, but as you suggested, I'm going to have to roll my front fenders. I think 5mm in the rear would be cutting it extremely close if possible at all.

you may need to play with negative camber a bit to make it fit. Rolling fenders will help too!

Haha. I think we were both thinking similar thoughts - I was trying to find the house, so I was already going slow, but I was honestly debating rolling my window down hoping you'd stop so I could tell you how I liked your car. But I didn't want that potential awkward moment of some guy thinking I'm a weirdo in another Audi who just drives around telling people I like their car.

I think the black rings would look good. At least with plastidip you can peal it off (granted it does not come off as easy as people make it sound; my grille surround needs to be redone and the old coat is not coming off easily).

It comes off pretty easy if u put enough coats on it. If its real thin it doesn't just "peal" off

We had 3 hiccups that set us back. He got the coilovers used and did not receive the nuts for the top of the front struts. So not knowing they even came with new nuts or had a different thread pitch we used the stock nuts which we quickly found out was the wrong thread pitch. So 4 stores later and a die and 2 new nuts we got it figured out. Then my compressor started smoking and took a shit on us so we borrowed one from my dad. And lastly the lower spring seat was on upside down on the pass side which we didn't notice until we had it in haha so if u buy them used, be sure to check for all parts and don't trust that everything is in correctly already.

So even though you got them used they still settled, thought that only happened with new. Good to know.

The springs will settle everytime they are uncompressed. For example, when I jack my car up to remove the wheel then put it back down, my car will sit about 1/2" higher for awhile.

The coilovers were fairly new and the springs had been sitting unused for about a month. I think they settled faster than new ones, though. We also modified the front stock bump stops.

Yeah, we were debating whether the springs would settle at all and they indeed settled.

What specs are the wheels? 20x10 ET25 all round?
Opinions are like a-holes, everyones got one.... and everyone thinks everyone else's stink!
So the above post was my uneducated, misinformed, unresearched, ignorant, xenophoc, homophobic, sexist, agnostic, cacomorphobic, flaming, stinky opinion..

20x10.5 ET30 all around. I spoke with Vossen today and they should be coming out with the 20x10 and 20x11 this week.

Vic, as I said when I was over there. Those wheels are fuggin sick! The drop looks about perfect to me.

Great hanging and talking to you. I'll let you know about cars n coffee next Saturday. We should roll our fenders next weekend, I can't really wait any longer to do it. Lemme know if you wanna split the deposit and knock it out.

Thanks for helping, Phil. Good seeing you again. Definitely let me know about C&C. Now I just need to install my sways, exhaust, adjustable control arms and head and tail lights. I'm down to split the deposit so we can get our fenders rolled and done with.

Vic, car looks sick. The wheels look like they were made for your car. Now I know who outbid me on Ebay!

Thanks, Will. I know about the BBK. I was going to paint my stock calipers red and then I tossed the CV3s on and realized how small they look.
