So, from my understanding, this only updates small things and not the maps, correct? Anything else besides the clock and nag screen that it updates?

Correct, the maps are all on the DVD. 0200 may improve some of the routing, but I can't verify that. For the most part, it's little tweaks (clock, etc...)

So what's the relationship between the two? I was confused when I was searching for Navigation DVDs. I thought we had to find discs that were RNS-E or something and NOT MMI. This is confusing.

I'm on crack because our system is MMI? Interesting. Dude you're way out of line. You were already kinda rude about the Euro thing, when it was in fact you who didn't RTFS. Now you're arguing with Audi's own nomenclature?

MMI HD is the new system that is HD based, but ours is the previous gen MMI. They don't call it RNS-E...that's a nerdy part term. Anyway, isn't it RSN? Audi refers to it as Radio Satellite Navigation System in the manual.

MMI is the overall system. You have DVD based navigation while the newer cars are HardDrive based. They're all MMI according to Audi. Turn yours on and you'll see the opening screen. That is unless you believe koolade, and that it's a mistake...and that you don't really have a multimediainterface...only dvd I guess? No radio. No SD card slots. No audio navigation...no screen. No bluetooth telephone integration. No CD changer. Naah...not multi-media at all.

You just need to be on the look out for the 2008 Audi maps DVD torrent or the 2009/2010 DVD. It can be called a million things on there, since people name the torrent. I've never seen it though, and I search pretty regularly. That EU (European Union) update is the best torrent I've seen, but of course, not what we're looking for. I don't know why someone with a 2008 or newer DVD doesn't just post the torrent up somewhere, or burn us a copy! Hell I would if I had it.

First, I want you to tell me that the system in the Q7, D3 A8, C6 A6, B8 A4, or A5 is the same as the B6/B7 A4, C5 A6, mkII TT, R8, & A3?

2nd, do they communicate with their components via the same protocol?

3rd, do they use the same firmware/map dvd (minus HDD based)?

When you understand the answer to all three, you will understand why I responded the way I did.

Yup, it's the S4 thread, I like some of the threads/people in here...A4 gets a little redundant/1.8 heavy. And I'm "talking shit" about the RNS-E...which is the same system in my little B6 as your B7S4...I beleive I have ground to talk on the subject.

If you get a burned copy, yes, it's burned via dual layer. 5A is the '09 RNS-E dvd, so you're golden

However here in S4, I think you missed the point...the entire range is called AUDI MMI - Audi Multi Media Interface. So if someone posts a torrent that says 'Audi MMI 2008 DVD', it's not necessarily bad for Clumpymold's S4 car...which is how this all started.

So I still win. So do you in your mind...you just started an argument because you thought I was saying 'they're all the same'. I just told clumpysauce that his system is called MMI...and that he needs to dig deeper to find what he's looking for.

I reckon I'm the only one in the argument who actually owns both, so I also win because of that. Hail to me.

Now to see if it really works. Too bad I don't plan on driving anywhere for a few days. I just hope it solves my "resetting" issue. Every time I start my car, the dash screen resets itself to nothing (something like <S> or some other random letter). I just press the button on the right stalk to get to "Settings", and press again to turn "Menu On". It also does this whenever I arrive at my destination.

you can uncheck it in the settings for Nav

and now we know what direction you fave when you park

clumpy - the <s> i've never seen before...doesn't sound normal

dual layer is just like it sounds, it uses two layers of material on the dvd media. Dvd movies are dual layer discs, a typical single layer dvd holds 4.7gb of data. a dual layer dvd holds like 8.5gb of data IIRC. You need a dual layer burner & DL media to burn a dvd like that, and it'll say specifically on the burner if it's a dual layer. There's also a couple other tricks to getting it to copy correctly...those are all detailed over on audiforum.us
