Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

I did a search for this. I understand that the latest version is something like 0260? How does one update the RNS-E? Are there periodic firmware updates? Is there ever a chance that the thing will be able to tell you the name of the track that you're playing on your iPod? (At least, that's what I've heard. I pick mine up tomorrow.)

Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

The latest version of US RNS-E SW is 0260 - but beware, it completely disables the AV input so don't upgrade to it if you have a DVD player connected to an AV adapter.

To update the SW you just insert the latest map DVD. SO if you want the latest maps and still want the AV input you have to use a special update CD with the 0200 SW on it but hacked to look like 0270, so that when you insert the map DVD with 0260 it doesn't update to 0260 and lose your AV input.

Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

what's the point of upgrading the firmware? I understand upgrading the map, but who cares about the firmware, if all it does is disable stuff?

p.s. any way to get the map update to 2008 or 2009 (if applicable) for free?

Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

The 150 firmware added a few features, notably it got rid of the "nag" screen and enabled a mute feature.

That said, is there anyone in the South Jersey/Philly area with a newer navigation DVD that I can "borrow" for 5 minutes? I still have the original DVD that came with my car in 2005. The maps are fine, the area in which I live and drive is pretty well mapped out, so I hate to drop $200 for

I have tried (repeatedly) to download the firmware and burn my own update drive to no avail. I don't know what I'm doing wrong there, but I figure I can get the firmware by just popping in a newer CD and starting the car.

If you can help, I'd appreciate it...

(Also, I posted this request in the NY/NJ/CT regional forum, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here, too.)

Like others have said...it can add features and can improve things like routing. I think that 0200 added a few things that I REALLY wanted like keeping the random option among others.

Version 260 enables the AUX to be used... You can connect a 3.5mm audio for your mp3 etc. But you have to code it via VAG.

gotcha. ditching the 'nag' screen (warning for inputting while moving) would be nice.

With that being said, I have a 2007 that came with NAV, so not sure what version I have. I believe I have a clock on there. Will check.

They added that nag screen in 0200 I believe (maybe 0150). There used to be a nag screen every time you started the car with older versions though, so I prefer this way!

Right ... the "nag" screen to which I was referring was the one that comes up EVERY time I start the car, regardless of if I'm using navigation or not ...

    that's Lexus-esque...same problem

how do we check what version we have for
    a) software
    b) map

and how do we find out how to update the map without paying?

I started a thread on this a while back and got no answers as nobody had done it yet on the 2008 disc...and also got flamed for seeking a copy/torrent of the 2008 DVD. I kind of felt like I should get lifetime updates for buying the car.

Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

I do think the $199 price tag is slightly outrageous. IMO There should be an "upgrade" price for people who are jumping up one year or so.

What I don't think is fair is the fact that you have to upgrade the maps to get the firmware upgrades. The firmware updates *should* be free. I purchased the navigation unit - if the radio has had updates, I feel like I'm entitled to them.

(The lack of MUTE in the original firmware, which I'm running, is a dumb omission. Even my POS Jeep had a mute button)

Maybe I'm wrong and Audi offers a free update to the firmware if you ask ... [???]

Oddly enough, I have 250 on mine. I say that because no one had mentioned it before.

Is there a list somewhere of the differences between 250 and 260?

    Thx.

From what I remember, 0250 means it was programed from the factory whereas 0260 is a separate upgrade. I think functionally they are the same but not 100% sure about that.

You can find firmware updates pretty easily on the internet. You just have to burn them to a cd in order to do the update. There might be some risk involved but I did that to 0200 before I got the 07 nav dvd.

isn't the 'ON/OFF' knob also for mute? just push it in for mute, and hold it in for off. Turn for volume. That's it in the bottom right corner.

don't even know if there is one for RNS-E (or is it RSN-E)? the newer systems are hard drive based.

let's make a concerted effort to get an 08 (or newer) disc shared around!

Ummm yeah ... that's really cool feature.

That was added in a firmware update (I think it was the 150 update). I'm running the 010 firmware.

Sure, but once every two or three revisions would be nice. Right now I don't have mute and every time I turn the radio on, I get the nag screen ... The maps are plenty accurate for my geography, but I'd like to have the latest features in my radio.

Sorta related question - if you install the RNSE into a car w/no MFSW, is there a way to access the presets you put into memory besides using the knob on the nav?

Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

Apart from buying the latest map DVD, I don't know where to get the latest version (0260) of the US software (also called firmware but under the Car button -> Setup it's referred to as "SW").

You can download version 0200 here: http://www.vagtoolfinder.com/downloads.aspx
If your version is older than 0150 this would add changes like mute/pause, no legal nag screen on startup, and fixes to the MIX/random feature.

You can update the software and still use older versions of the map DVDs, but I'm not sure how old the maps can be and still work with 0200. Some of the newer features are improved route calculations and 3D graphics for highway exits, but these might require new map discs as well.

Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

Forgive my ignorance, but do I download this info to a CD or DVD and then stick it in the nav? Will it auto update or is this a VAG update that I need the cable for? I'd prefer to buy a 0260 version that I can just keep in the nav full time.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, just put the firmware files on a regular cd-r and pop it in the dvd slot. You don't need to use the cable.

I've never seen a complete list, someone should add this to a sticky post each time a new version comes out.

Not much changed, see post #29 here:
    http://audiforum.us/maps-firmware/59...nterested.html

It hasn't changed much at all from 0150. For example:
"Something must have changed but I dont think anyone has found it yet..."
"after using SW 0200 and accompanying maps for a month, it seems the route calculation is alot better"
    - But I'm using the 0200 software with the 0150 maps disc and the route calcualtion is not any better than it was with 0150 software.

"I've got them but you won't see any thing different than the 0150 software"
"I noticed that with the new 0200 soft, the bluetooth displays "Disconnecting...", with 0150 it used to say "Call ended" or something similar"
    More info:
    http://audiforum.us/rns-e/8546-firmw...ory-rns-e.html

I have never seen a complete revision log for the RNS-E software but here is a quick overview on what has changed:

EU 0030: first known European software
EU 0050: initial release in early 2004
    EU 0080:
EU 0100: first release that supports FAT32 on SD cards
EU 0140: never released on DVD
EU 0160: never released on DVD
EU 0170: never released on DVD, last release that supports DVD maps 2005 or older
EU 0330: first version of the "new" software generation, requires DVD 2005_1 or newer
EU 0360: first version supporting "high" features for phone interface, requires new generation of phone interface (C, F or newer)
EU 0450: lots of "issues" reported on several forums
EU 0460: bugfix release on 2006_1 DVD
EU 0550: first 2 DVD set, TMC in UK is now supported
EU 0600: first with rear view camera support, fixes several map issues introduced with the 2 DVD set
EU 0650: first with AUX-in support, MIX bugs fixed

US 0020: first known US software, based on EU 0100
    US 0040: improved MP3 support
US 0110: first with support for "high" phone features
    US 0150: first without disclaimer
    US 0200: MIX bugs fixed
US 0250: never released on DVD
US 0260: first with AUX-In support, but TV mode removed

Re: RNS-E Software Update version 0200

Update: there is a member here who sells "backup" copies for $50 shipped. I believe you need a dual layer (not sure on technical jargon) to burn a "backup". You cannot take a joy ride from Audi and try to do a quick burn on your laptop unless you have the dual layer burner.

The 260 gets rid of nag screen and the mute button works when you push on the volume knob. Definitely worth it if you have an older version just to get rid of the confimation screen.

Old thread but is there a way you can do this USING the Vag-Com cable?

If not, do you simply put the CD-R into the DVD slot and turn the car on?

EDIT: I tried burning a CD-R with the files, put it in the DVD slot. Nothing.

Sounds like you haven't burned the CD right.

What is the correct way to burn it? Do I need to burn it using dual layer or something? Make it bootable? Thanks for your help!

doesn't need to be bootable... Just a regular data cd. when I made my last one, I just used the burning software that comes with windows XP. I think if you're using nero or something else, there's an issue with the joliet settings. Just use the windows burning tool and you're golden

I see. What burning software? I'm also using WinXP but don't see any burning software.

And you're right. I DID use Nero to burn that disc. Is there a way I can use Nero and have it burn with the correct joliet settings?

Oh, and can there be other files on that CD-R or does it have to be ONLY those files? And what about Roxio? Will that program work?

You're gonna be pissed when you see how embarassingly simple it is...pop a blank cd into your writer, and once xp realizes it's a blank cd...open it up via my computer, and drag the 5 files onto that folder/cd. A little burning icon will be off to the left IIRC... click that and it'll burn...done. The 5 files are like 15-16mb total (at least for 0200).

If for some reason you can't get that to work, I'll try to dig up the thread on audiforum with the exact joliet settings.

edit: not the exact thread I found before, but this should help if still trying to use nero:

The 5 or 6 files go in the root along with the SDS folder.

I use Nero all the time, so either you are doing something wrong or your burner is duff.

Awesome! Thanks a LOT for that! The window didn't pop up because I disabled all media settings. But I just did what you said and it burned. Popped the CD-R into the slot and voila! All updated. I noticed a little clock at the bottom now and no more nag screen!!!

So, from my understanding, this only updates small things and not the maps, correct? Anything else besides the clock and nag screen that it updates?

    Thanks again!!!

Oh, and FYI: I have version 0020 (Version 1A - Navteq W531247003) and this firmware update still works!
