'14 S6 with tons of codes

Sorry for the data dump below but I'm hoping to shed some light for some of my forum brethren. I've been having intermittent codes go off for a couple of months now, and finally got some time to take it to the dealer about a month ago. Here are the 5 codes:

1) TPMS Error - Tire Pressure System Malfunction
2) ACC and Audi Braking Guard: Unavailable
3) Air Suspension System Fault
4) Sport Differential: System Fault
5) Stabilization Control (ESC) Fault: See Owner's Manual

They would go off in rapid succession upon startup, and typically would go away except the Sport Diff error after ~3 minutes of driving. It also seemed to occur more often after a warm start than first thing in the morning.

The dealer said the battery was testing bad, and quoted me $450. I figure I'd research prices since they seemed brain bleed expensive, and of course I realize the price isn't outrageous, and since I have a CPO warranty still, I'd rather cough up the difference so they couldn't weasel out of if it if I replaced the battery myself or had an indy shop do it. The difference was probably $50, and they ended up charging me just under $400 anyway.

I got the car back today with the new battery and after two starts, the faults came back and they are more persistent than ever. It'll be another week and a half before I can get back in there so that's frustrating, but the only noticeable effect is that the car drives like the suspension is locked out. We don't really drive the car on the weekends and the roads are smooth around here, but still not fun.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I'd rather not leave any details out. Let me know if anything jumps out at you all. I'd guess that there's something flaky with the ECU start up sequence and it's tripping all those subsystems off, but we'll see. I'll update the post as I find more out.

Battery is stupid expensive. I had mine replaced at HS Tuning (NE Ohio) for $300. I wouldn’t doubt it is throwing codes especially if the dealer said it is on its last legs. $300 was cheap, but the electronics in these assume everything is in working order.

The 1 code under the “ECU” is what’s giving you these problems; not the battery, there is no “low voltage” codes anywhere. But the ecu is saying your map sensor is not good, make sure the connection is tight on it. I believe the map sensors are in the throttle body where the 2 hoses coming if the turbo are. But if it’s A CPO under warranty let them worry about it.

If you get it figured out let me know. My local dealership can't even see all those same faults on my car, yet I get them every 400 miles or so an I can see them on VCDS. They replaced the map sensors yesterday and are driving it today to see if at least the map sensor fault goes away.

may seem odd, but check your ABS wheel speed sensors. a broken or dirty one can light up similar lights.

I've noticed the car is surging when coming to a stop, like it's applying throttle when it downshifts to 1. Pretty un-nerving so I'm going to call the dealership and see what they can do to work this in quicker or get me a loaner.

Mine will do that too when all of the faults show up. I expect it has something to do with the sport differential fault, but I could be wrong. Only does it when the 4 or 5 faults are active.

My 2018 that I purchased new in February does this occasionally. Sometimes if I shut it off and start it again, the faults go away...... other times I need to clear them with Carista. I plan to do my first oil change at 5K miles vs. the 10K interval. When I bring it in for that I’m going to have them look into it.

It took the dealer a few days but they had to call in TAC to assist with diagnosis. Thank god for CPO...

MAP sensor bad (covered under CPO)
Bank 2 O2 sensor bad (also covered under CPO)

I asked my service advisor to give me a quote for replacing the other O2 sensors since they are already in there and the sensors are relatively cheap.

My CPO expires in March, which means they'll probably fail shortly thereafter. ;-)

How many other O2 sensors are there (I assume 3 others?) and what would be an ok price to replace them? I guess some of them are easier than others to get to...

a stranger on a forum solved this in 3 hours, without looking at the car ( see post 3), but took the dealer days and a specialist? lol

4 O2 sensors.
1 primary and one secondary, per exhaust bank.
changing them isn't difficult if you have basic mechanical knowledge.

I got my car today back as well (from map sensor errors and all the suspension/ACC faults) they fixed map sensors and adjusted the control arm levelers. Car was with them for 2 weeks, a few days of that was waiting on map sensors. Hopefully my errors don't come back, been at the dealership for 7 weeks of the 4.5 months I've owned the car lol...

@OaborbaG that’s rough. I’m glad my ownership experience has been better than that. Some days I still think it’d be nice to have a Tacoma and not have to worry about 4K repairs though.

It's a useful skill to have anyway, that way you have some idea if you're being fleeced on anything. It's really, really easy for body shops to over charge.

Tell me about it, there's nothing like buyers remorse than the feeling after what I've experienced. Out of all the S6's I looked at, I think I chose the wrong one. This ones been in the shop more in the last 4.5 months of ownership than all my other cars combined.

Well, just got off the phone with my SA and they found one of the turbo impellers was rubbing so I guess I’m getting both turbos replaced. Thank god for CPO!

That makes me question whether I should try and trade the car once the CPO expires or if since all the common (and expensive) stuff has been replaced that it's good for awhile?

if this is due to failing/clogged oil screen, they should be replacing the screen as well...and the PCV wheel in there. These items are really the only major downfall to the the 4.0t. no point in trading in if they are updated to the "fix" versions of parts.

Got the car back a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the tech misdiagnosed the turbos as being faulty (wtf?) so the dealer didn't touch them after all. 2 weeks in the shop to replace breather valve, o2 sensor, MAF sensor, do the PODS recall and do an overpriced oil change. At least I had a loaner.

Since the turbos weren't replaced and my warranty ends in March, I may start shopping again. We'll see. Mama bear needs a new car first, as well as my 14 year old needs his first car. Maybe I can get a package deal.
