Yes you can be in Dynamic and pull back to go "D" drive mode....
Perhaps that is indeed peoples' issue, but "S" drive mode vs. "D" drive mode is fairly obvious.
If I am in Dynamic "S", shut car off, turn car on I will be in Dynamic "D", but if I select Dynamic again I will be back in Dynamic "S" or I can just pull the shifter back once to achieve the same thing.

I have had an Audi since Drive Select was first introduced and it always puts the transmission/throttle response to "S" when I select Dynamic mode.
That is quite strange that you guys are saying your cars behave otherwise.
I understand when you stay in Dynamic mode and shut the car off and back on again it is in "D" that is by design, but you if you are driving in say "Auto" mode and switch to Dynamic it always puts my car into "S". It basically puts everything that can be adjusted to its most sporty setting... makes German sense.
As usual, you're right. The owner's manual refers to "D" as "normal" and "S" as "Sport". If when shutting off the car the drive select was in Comfort, Auto, or Dynamic, then when starting the car the dash will show "D". If when shutting off the car the drive select was in Economy, then when starting the car the dash will show "E". While driving, if the drive select is in Economy and it's changed to Dynamic, the dash will change from "E" to "S". Pulling back on the lever toggles between whichever mode was active ("E" or "D") and "S".

Whenever I engage launch control, I always push the brake down far, bring it back a bit then push back down. You'll feel the brake pedal hit a wall and it won't go any further. Launch control always works this way.

Yeah. I just sought to dispel the notion that being in dynamic means you're automatically in S-mode. It totally depends on your driving habits.

Steps I recall as to how to use LC.
    Car up to temps
    Steering wheel straight
    Drive select in dynamic ?
    Trans in Sport
ESC off (item I guess in question is long hold or quick tap)
Brake pedal all the way down
    Mash the accelerator pedal
There's no long-hold on ESC for the S6/S7 dual clutch.

** update ... I tried again the other day and was successfull ... so it appears my car did not exceed the 200 count launch limit... I belive my issue was it wasn't recognizing my foot being all the way down on the brake pedal, I did a slight pump of the pedal first and then mashed it all the way down and it worked.... Thanks all for the input !

Yeah both my Audi cars for some reason you REALLY have to press that brake pedal down to enable launch control. My Nissan GT-R just lightly on brake and floor it and boom it's ready to launch. Audi it's put all your weight into that brake pedal or it won't launch.
