Not a stupid question... just a unique reason!

Mid-Dash... bet the HDD for the MMI was spinning up (fuel pump sounds distinctly under car). As mentioned, several system get the car ready, but several other systems KEEP the car ready. There are down timers for things like the Jukebox and such that keep the car "aktiv" for a return.

Ever notice how sometimes the MMI is near instant and others it takes a few minutes to settle? Those times can be set. My brother had a problem with his keeping his Bluetooth active when he went in the house. We adjusted the times so that it turned off within minutes and POOF... problem solved.

I've heard my HDD spool up when I was just sitting reading emails. You bump the wheel, adj the seat or anything that lets the car know you are still present, it lights up!

    Hope this helps,

    KS

Very good question, not one I have the answer too. However, the sensors for auto dimming all 3 mirrors are located in your rear view mirror. Ill have to see if mine dim next time I drive in the dark, as I have 5% tint on my car..

Great theory, except there is no HDD in his car. He has a 2018 S7. The MMI got rid of that mechanical ticking time bomb with C7.5 MMI update.

Where are you guys getting your jack pad adapters? I was using this before https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1, but it fell apart and is no longer available.

I just got this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and it is too large to fit in the jack pad area.

I wonder if they would completely implode if you 3d printed one with 100 percent infill.I know in the miata world, they often fashion some out of hockey pucks. Those cars also weight 2000lb.

I did read before that these things fall apart. I had just used it and when I lowered the car the adapter just crumpled.

I ordered another adapter on Amazon and same issue. It's too large.

Well damn... didn't know that one.

But one thing I do know... mid dash isn't a fuel pump priming!

Maybe the car is opening vents to the outside world and running a fan. I know that in the 1998 A6 when fully loaded would do that to keep the inside of the car cool. It may have been only an option on the sunroof cars that had solar panels in the sunroof glass. In both of my late 80s Fords, the car knew you were sitting on the seat via sensors and I would imagine the Audi is the same. Just guessing.

You have to block the light going into the little square on the front of the mirror. This way the front is darker than the back and the mirror will tint to balance it out. If I have my sunshade up, auto dimming works like crap if at all during the night. I don't need it for the rear view with the sunshade up, but the sides dim with the rearview and so then none of them dim. I can only imagine that tint would make the auto dimming less effective.

EPIC. simple solutions are great. Although got me thinking, there is a way to test auto dim in vcds, now I wonder if there’s a way to just set it to be always on.

You can check out some charts online but 275 is not recommended on a 9” wide wheel.

I can't sleep with any LEDs on in my room and this completely conflicts with the design language of everything I own or work on for a living. Those little covers have been a savior. I never thought about sticking one on my rear view mirror until this thread so that's a win (I noticed my auto dimming wasn't as effective as before but I have a tint waiver so I kind of expected it).

It’s not that simple. People run 275 on 9 inch wheel quite a lot. It really depends on the tire brand, sidewall spec, wheel offset, etc. It can be done perfectly fine with no issues, and it can be a bad idea. You don’t want too much sidewall or bulge as that will create to much lateral movement making steering feel sloppy. Several manufacturers also list 9inch wheel as the minimum for a 275, which tells you it is approved for that setup. Others will say 9.5 or 10.

Now that you mention it I just saw this post https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post14682036. 275/35/20 on a 9" wheel.

So I've been trying to get an answer to this. I bought some 20x10 et30 wheels recently and it came with 285/30/20 tires. I have no rubbing issues on my A6 and I am on stock height. I need some all seasons and I need some extra sidewall in my area so I would like to run 275/35/20 DSW06. The tire rep advised me against it because of the 30 offset. He thought it would rub. Any advice?

I was gonna say when i look it up i see people with 8” tires running 275’s. I’m honestly not 100% sure my rims are 9” but they’re wide. I have the sport suspension option from audi and that came with its own set of rims which lead me to believe they’re at least 20x9” rims. Ill have to pull out a tape measure and find out for myself I’m such a noob with cars i cant believe myself sometimes lol

If you take a wheel off the car, the width will be stamped. It should say something like "9.0Jx20H2 ET37" where in this example the 9.0 indicates a 9" width.

    I run a 285/30/21 on factory RS7 wheels.

Standard suspension on my A6. I get some occasional rubbing on the rear over large bumps/dips/woops in the road.

    Here's a really dumb question!

How do I disconnect the connector on the front left strut of my 2018 S7? Is the below pic correct?

    Kind regards,
    A dumb S7 owner

I discovered same thing recently, looking for new tires. 265 is stupid prices. Get 255 or 275 and save a ton.

Question on the outdoor temp sensor on my 2016 A6, whats is the range?
I was driving through a area and it regestered 0*, so wondering just how low the sensor will display.

The display can show a negative number but I don't know how low it goes. Try resetting to Celsius to more quickly show a negative number.

So I cleaned the interior of an Audi A6 2012 C7 the other day and now the MMi buttons will not light up and nothing is working related to MMI (entertainment, phone, navigation all say being initialized please wait). The screen also doesn't pop up anymore. Hitting menu or car buttons also does nothing. I detailed the car and I found several items in the compartment behind the cubby in the trunk on the driver's side too and I pulled all that stuff out. I already checked fuses and I'm a little lost on where to start. I'm thinking maybe I sprayed to much detailer spray near mmi controls or maybe I pressure washed near the windshield to hard I don't know but it's the only thing not working after the detail and it worked before. Any thoughts on what I could do to isolate what my problem is?20221120_134107.jpg

Sounds like too much moisture to mmi controls. error codes would help pinpoint the issue.

Removing the negative battery cable and reconnecting fixed my issue. MMI now works fine now. What is irritating now though is I was stupid and removed the wrong fuse and now I have a transmission error and parking error and the car won't shift out of park. I tried resetting codes for these issues with no luck.
