    S6 exhaust vs. Sports exhaust

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
There are a number of members including me that have a standard exhaust (s6 2013) and want a little bit more but not as much as a full aftermarket exhaust will give.
Does anyone know the difference between standard exhaust and sports exhaust? Is it a matter of upgrading just part of the standard exhaust?

Those of us who are not going down the full aftermarket route have started removing the centre box section, and replacing it with a X-pipe (some have used H pipe)

This is pending for me, but plenty others have already done this mod. Its extremely cost effective

There are a few forum threads regarding this, here is the most recent:

In the later models that include the sport exhaust, the exhaust flaps have been moved upstream ahead of the center resonator. I'm not sure if anyone has looked at the feasibility of relocating the wiring harness.

I am amazed at how much my 2016 S6 Sport exhaust rumbles even in comfort mode. Pop it into dynamic & it is definitely noticable, reminds me of some older, much larger, American V8s. The poping on decel was also suprising. I came from a 2011 stage 2 S4, with stock exhaust, this S6 is a lot louder and noticeable, even in quiet mode. I even used the VAGCOM to turn off the Structure bourne sound module.

So it is the flaps moved ahead of the center resonator and different mufflers?

The valve on one side is moved from the tail pipe to just in front of the rear muffler. The left rear muffler is a different muffler. It does no affect the removal of the center muffler, but you must use a X or H pipe to replace it. Personally I think the H has a better sound as it doesn't force the two exhaust paths together, like the X does.

So is the difference only the rear muffler and position of the valve? Does that mean all the rest is the same?

So, could anyone tell me the exact different between two sets of exhaust? Is it the different on the resonators/mufflers? or the ECU setting? What makes the bangs and pops sounds? Thank you!

    S6 exhaust vs. Sports exhaust

To expand a bit, does anyone know how the AWE touring exhaust compares to the C7.5 sport exhaust? Also interested to know the answer to Jack's question above if anyone knows...

The AWE system has no valves, so one sound for all modes including 4 cylinder mode, which would not suit me.

The main difference and possibly only difference for the sport exhaust is the two rear mufflers are more open/direct.

This mod to the rear mufflers is clever:

I can answer yours and Jack's question regarding "pop's and bang's and the OE face-lift sport exhaust and the standard pre-face lift exhaust

If you install the sport exhaust on pre-face lift S6 with no other changes to the exhaust, you will get a nice but moderate increased volume and tone but not the "pop's and bangs". I just recently did this install on my 13.

I obviously can not see inside the rear mufflers, the middle "suitcase" resonator, or the first set of resonators off the down pipes, but I suspect the hardware difference between the two exhaust to be the rear mufflers and the three upstream resonators being the same.

I have heard and spoke to another member that has the OE sport exhaust on his 13 but also with APR downpipes, and he reported getting some "pop's and bangs". So even though you won't get them with just the addition of the sport exhaust, other changes to the exhaust system might add them in, but probably not to the full extent that a face lift car has, as I believe they are purposefully programed in using small additional amounts of fueling.

Here is my situation: I am living in Canada, and driving a 2017 Post-Facelift S6. I don't know what's the reason that Canadian version cannot get the sport exhaust as an option. So my car is post-facelift S6 with standard sliver tips exhaust. I am OK with the tone but just want more volume and most importantly, the "pops and bangs" sounds.

Would check how the pops and bangs happen when in S mode. So MMI, choose dynamic and let the car stay in S. Drive around like you stole it and see if there is enough pops and bangs when letting off the pedal.

I can tell you it does get louder. My exhaust is probably twice as loud as when I got it, after doing 25,000km. I can only assume that the glass fiber packing carbons up over time, as I'm pretty sure there are no leaks in the system..
