will I hate life on 20s?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So im hating how bad the stock 18s look. Im looking at some 20x8.5 et25 but worried it will ride too rough? I drive about 1500-2000 miles a month.

    Thoughts?

As blockburner said, that offset is crazy. Are you lowered? If you are, you will be pushing tire into sheetmetal as these wheels will cause the tires to poke out past the fender line. Plus, it is not the size of the wheel that dictates how rough the ride is going to be, it is the tire (specifically the aspect ratio) that will determine ride quality. What size tires are you looking at running?

I have 20's on my A5, set of OEM RS5 wheels with a slightly higher tread rating than the stock Pirelli tires. Only problem with 20s if you don't check your tire pressure regularly, a pot hole can seriously eat your tire/rim. The ride isnt as smooth as a 18 with a wider tire side wall, but then again I don't zoom through sh***y roads anyway.

I thought et25 would be good since the wheels are only 8.5? but I could do et35 if thats better. for tires I want to stay stock rolling diameter so it looks like that would be a 255/30/20

If you have good roads, 20s will be ok, but like everyone else here has said...ET25 is a bad idea. I'd stick with 30, at most. Also, the ride WILL BE HARSH, since you'll have less rubber to provide any cushioning.

    All good info so far.

What I would say is that it also depends on your tolerance for bumps and feeling the road imperfections. Then, you also have to think about how heavy that wheel and tire will end up being. You are adding unsprung rotational weight to your ride, unless you get some very light 20s.

Also remember that there is a middle ground between 18s and 20s. It's pretty hard to tell 19s from 20s at a glance since we are talking rim diameter and not real lip diameter, so some 19s may look as large as some 20s.

    DO IT.

20'S Fit so nicely on C6's. I'm running 20x10 et40 all the way around. Just a slight roll in the rear and i get no rubbing...also have no wheel gap. I road trip all the northeast with a wife and baby and it's a smooth ride.

I have a question about putting 20's on mine.
I have the 2010 A6 Prestige with sports package. As of now I have 19 - 8.5 et 48 with 20mm spacers that came stock with car. Will I be able to lose the 20mm spacers and be OK?

    Thanks

I loved the looks of the 20s (20x9 et35) on my C6, but the roads on may daily commute were not kinds to them. I think I had them for about 9 months and had to replace two tires and repair a cracked rim.

I'm upgrading to 20x9 et37 this summer and will be using 245/35/20 tires for the extra depth in sidewall. My old setup was 19x9 et52 Tt-rs peelers with 255/35/19 tires. Giving that I'm still going to run the same 35 series tire I think the ride should be close to the same as my 19s. Maybe even a bit softer because I went with Dws06 this vs pss.

Actually, the 245/35/20 wil be thinner sidewall than the 255/35/19. The "35" is the aspect ratio of the sidewall comparded to the width of the tire calculated as a percentage. So 35% of 255 is greater thatn 35% of 245.

Yes you are right sin. What I meant was the 35 is a higher profile then a 30 series tire so I was hopping it will help with the pot holes around my town so I don't end up cracking a rim. Now all I hope is I don't get any rubbing issues.

On my truck I went from 20's back down to 18's because the ride was so bad. The S6 with black optics pkg comes with 20's which was a big concern. Factory settings and the air suspension are a big help. The car rides great on them so I don't see any concerns at this point. Taking a 1500 mile sub 19 hour trip through the high desert in a week and I will report black after some hard fast miles.

You will be perfectly fine with 20x8.5 et25...I ran 20x9.5 et35 with my Carlssons (which is 2mm more aggressive) and now run 20x10 et20 with my AGs (which is 23mm more aggressive).

Throw some 235/35 on there and you will have a nice flush stance.

IMHO, yes, since at +25, you will probably need to roll your fenders to ensure you don't shred your tires.

Any reason for wanting to run that tire? Is your goal a wider contact patch or a large sidewall? 235/35 is more than wide enough for an 8.5'' wheel and will give you a large sidewall (read: more comfortable ride) than a 255/30.

However to answer your question, yes you would probably be better with an et35 that should have no risk of rubbing and if needed you can always throw a small spacer on there to dial in the stance a little bit.

I want to run at least a 245, which is the stock width I'm running now, I'm not interested in running a narrower than stock tire. if i run a 245/35/20 thats 4% difference in stock, a 245/30/20 is the closest to stock

That's fair. Stick with the 255/30 and et35 then to avoid any potential rubbing issues without having to roll or modify anything.

They were 20" Peeler repros on 255/30 Falkens (iirc). I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the potholes. They are a little harder to react to and do more damage when they are coming at you at 70 mph.

I went with OEM 20x9 ET37 on 255/30R20 Toyo Proxes 4 Plus, been on the car about 6 weeks now. Besides paying a little more attention to potholes, I wouldn't complain about them.
