Can we retrofit the newer steering wheels?

US market airbags appear to be similar dual stage on the A4/S4 as current wheels are. There are RoW market airbags which are not and from information I have the R8 and TT are single stage with this style airbag worldwide. There are models here in the US which are single stage still. Not sure what the exact regulations are on which cars must be dual or adaptive vs. single.

Yes but it's not cheap. Alex offers the correct part numbers and integration, otherwise you have to source from Belgium (other threads list supplier recommendations). I probably have $2000 into my R8 wheel setup.

It's a 2017 R8 wheel (pulled from salvage) with a dual-stage stitched leather airbag and extended red carbon paddle shifters. I recently pulled the wheel to fit the newer R8+ gloss black paddles so don't have much to share at the moment. My wheel is missing the 'race mode' and exhaust lower outboard buttons, so only Drive Select and Start/Stop are present.

A TT-S wheel is also a nice option to consider if the R8 wheel is tough to find. Same outboard button group is compatible with the CANBus ---> LIN integration. It requires a small module under the airbag and another larger module in the knee bolster or side fuse panel area to intercept those outboard wires, linking them back to CAN and intercepting the Start/Stop button in the center console.

I've seen a few threads from Europe about guys doing these swaps. I wish someone could point us towards compatible part numbers that would work... The wheels and airbags do show up in various places but I haven't pulled the trigger because seems like there is too much risk of buying a $1000 thing that won't end up working.

And of course it needs an integration kit of some sort, if anyone knows where to source those, that would be really helpful too.

As already mentioned above, Alex@Europrice has everything you need available as a retrofit kit. I'm thinking of ordering one any day now.

I'm currently speaking to suppliers on alibaba regarding the R8 wheel and fitting. They are very expensive to start especially when you add the additional R8 buttons stop start, drive select, exhaust, traction. However I have found one or two suppliers who are knowledgeable and will help me install it once purchased. I've got a clutter of images and instructions but I won't really know once the wheel is here. That being said I've shown it to afew specialists and they say it can be done. Speak to Haychcustoms on Facebook or Instagram, or control customs as there looking into offering these currently in testing.

My reply above was intentionally vague around the electronics integrator as there's really just one Belgium-based supplier who has it all figured out with OEM part numbers, using vehicle wiring, from LIN to CANbus operation. The other suppliers use generic LIN-CAN wireless-based adapters or don't fully integrate with the wheel. Anything Chinese-based won't be built on OE wheel frames and MFB groups. No idea what they're doing with the airbags.

Dasquade and Alex @ Europrice can point you in the correct direction for integration, even if you furnish your own wheel. I recommend the 2017-2018 R8 and TT-S wheel, as its red button illumination will match the interior of your S6. 2020+ and TT-RS wheels use all white MFB illumination.
