Anyone put a B8.5 automatic shift knob on a B8?

Hate this rectangular shaped shift knob and love the newer round style with the S5 logo on it... Can I simply buy the knob and replace or do I need more than that for it to work?

    Great question...waiting for a reply.

    Wait...don't the S5 convertibles have round knobs? (11' & 12's)

There is a DIY thread on how to do this. You have to heat and twist the plastic rod to install the round shifter as the button that engages the rod is forward facing on the new shifter.

Nope the 11 and 12's dont. Like said earlier, you have to heat and twist the plastic rod so that it's oriented for the front trigger of the front knob.

The heat and twist method is not difficult but you have to be patient. There was another method someone on here used where they cut the plastic and then drilled a hold and put a threaded rod inside and used that to avoid any mess ups doing the heat and twist method. The facelift shift knob is a must have mod!!

Here's a good thread for what needs to be done for the heat and twist modification:

Thanks, Alex! I will be in touch. Decided that I am going to add wheels and tires at the moment and will be slightly delayed on the knob... But will hit you up as soon as I am able!!
