    Launch Control 2016 S6

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
New S6 Avant owner (UK) just got my car and have broken the engine in. Wanted to try launch control but wouldn't work for some reason. I was about to give up but pressed traction control off and on again after I'd already deactivate it and it revved up to around 5000. I thought it was 4000 for launch? Maybe it was a one off or its the new models for the UK that rev higher. Maybe I just misread it. Anyway I launch it and it was brutally fast. I think it's around 4 seconds. I did a video but it's shakey so I'll do another some time and post it.
Anyone know why I couldn't get launch to work as previously it has been described?

Did you hold the traction control button down for 3-5 seconds?

Yeah in fact longer but at first would only rev to 2000. Car was warmed up as well. Do you select dynamic and turn traction off then launch as that was what I was doing at first

    - - - Updated - - -

Where do your revs top out at on launch control on a stock car?

Is there any way to override the number of launches? I think the maximum is 200.

Get an APR TCU tune (which allows 3000), but the drawback to that is that the count still keeps incrementing. If you flash back to stock and it's over 200, then no more lauches are possible.

Ok, so I have been having problems getting the car to launch lately. Reading above, am I supposed to hold down the TC button for a few seconds, not just turn it off?

Up to operating temp (redline has moved to 6xxx)
    Dynamic drive select
    Sport mode
    Steering wheel straight
Hold down TC off, I hold down until the second acknowledgement of brake guard disabled pops up.
Brake pedal all the way down
    Slam the gas

If the car is holding against the brakes you are not in LC mode. Car should hold rev basically like it is in neutral.

Thank you!! I must have gotten lucky the few times I was able to launch, will give this a try.

In my S7 I literally had to stand on the brake to get LC to work. Use the steps above but make sure you are on the brake pedal hard before hitting the gas.

It looks like I may have been to easy on the gas. Although I pushed down to the floor, I was too gradual. Winter tires broke loose a bit, so can't wait to see what the summer tires do.

Having done a lot of 1/2 mile airstrip racing I've utilized LC a lot ;)

No need to hold the TC button for any prolonged time. The key is to be in sport mode when you hit the TC button. A simple push of the TC button will do. Steering wheel needs to be straight but you'll know LC is active if it revs to 5k.

Don't engage LC until youre ready to race, if you engage LC but decide to not launch it won't work a second time without redoing the activation sequence (turn traction back on then off again while in sport to re-enable LC). LC also has a timeout, you can't sit there bouncing it off the rev limiter forever, it disengages if too much time elapses.

From the factory the car is limited to 200 LC launches, but the APR TCU tune ups that limit. And no matter how many times you do it, LC never gets old. Gets me LOLing every time.

Here's a clip of me launching against a 750hp Cadillac CTS-V, definitely a much faster car but it's not until we pass the 1/4 mile marker that I stop gaining and he starts to reel me back in. The traction advantage is so huge at the start that RWD cars have too much ground to make up to win.

LC is awesome! Have only done it a few times but man it is a violent thing and just pins you to your seat. Would highly suggest doing it when tires that are up to temp so they are ready to grip, cold tires in winter will not be the same experience.

And afaik it isn't that good for your tranny if tires loose grip, get grip, loose grip. Never the less, it is indeed more instant push :).
Also can't wait untill the roads are dry and warm again ;).
Additionally, if not mistaken, it is best the let go of the brake at the first upsweep of the revs. Depending on your tune, i tought you get the highest torque around 3.500 rpm?
*Feels even quicker in the passenger seat...

I actually pump my brakes a time or two. Sometimes without doing that, my pedal goes to the floor and doesn't really feel that firm. Try that if you are having trouble.

Usually 500 miles, but a lot of people, including myself, believe in driving the car how you intend to drive it, from day one. Personally I think limiting rpm in the early stages is a big mistake. I'd probably hold off on LC though, until you have a few hundred miles on it.

I'm with you. I've been driving the car hard and was planning to try LC after 500 miles. Only 200 to go!
