I had been getting the symptoms of carbon build up at around 55k on my A6 and decided it was time for the cleaning. Planned everything out and ordered everything needed to do the job in advance. Over all it was a fairly easy job, aside from having to make a tool in order to turn the crank over to close the valves. Definitely signs of carbon when I pulled the intakes. I used O ring picks and dental picks to scrape the build up off the walls and vacuumed it up. After I got as much off as possible, I used the red CRC brake cleaner, like many on here say to, and it worked very well in my opinion. I filled the ports with CRC and let them soak and used a stainless steel brush with a drill attachment to get the rest of the gunk out. I threw new valve cover gaskets on and plugs in while I was at it. Thanks to everyone for the advice and knowledge. Here are some pics...
