    Hey,

is Carbon Cleaning a recommended DIY or should I pay to get it done? If it is a recommended DIY, is there any post on cleanings??

it can be done via DIY, but is a bit time consuming, though not too hard. Here is a great youtube video detailing how it gets done:

I found this video for carbon cleaning of a BMW engine.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnMhNXXawjk

    1) Has anyone come across an equally detailed video for the Audi 3.0T engine?
    2) It would be nice if some of the Audi aftermarket folks (or Audi) would come up with a port adaptor like BMW did. Is anyone aware of an Audi equivalent?

My understanding is that the 3.0T doesn't suffer from the severe buildup that the 3.2 does, so it's something that hasn't been discussed in depth in this sub-forum.

I'm going to do A carbon cleaning in the spring on my 09 3.0T, just for some piece of mind. I'm at 170km right now and starting to get some rough idle.

2 things to mention when doing the carbon cleaning, do NOT over tighten the intake flap assembly, you can break the studs (learn from my mistake) and also be careful around the plastic parts, as they are brittle and have heat cycled god knows how many times. (I broke a coolant line too.)

Other than that it is pretty easy, just time consuming. Technically you should replace all the red gaskets on the intake runner thing, as well as the injector o-rings too since you opened it up.

It would be great if you could take a video of it and post it for the rest of us.

I may be looking to DIY this myself this Spring/Summer on my 4.2. Yay! Hopefully, most of my coolant bits are in good shape as my mechanic already broke the brittle bits and replaced them when fixing some oil and coolant leaks last year.
