Moar pics. No hit & run - the idiot was dumb enough to admit to the state police that he was road raging with another vehicle / didn't realize that traffic was stopped in his lane. Fukbag...

    Another rear shot

    Passenger side rear quarter

    Driver side rear quarter

Rear quarter pushed into drivers door (still opens / closes)

    Busted panel weld in trunk

And, for the finale...a strange noise coming from center stack when I went back to clean it out this afternoon. No key, didn't power anything up, just opened the passenger door.

Wow that sounds brutal. Hope you and your wife are both okay, cars can always be replaced.

Also, please please please DO NOT go to a chiropractor. No need to put yourself in additional harm by going to a half wit "doctor". Get proper medical attention and you'll be a okay in no time

That's the Audi self healing process running, isn't it cool? the car will look like new in the morning.

Just a little humor to help your healing process.

Hey bud, only seen this now. I'm really sorry to see such an awesome car looking like that, I'm sure it wasn't a happy day for you and your wife, but glad both of you are OK and released from hospital. Just take it easy.

As far as that prick who rammed into you, well I hope he pays big time for what he's done. If the insurance agree to total the car, will you consider getting another Audi? My thought's are, after such an impact, that it save both of you from more serious injury.

Take care and hope you get this sorted out without much hassle.
    Regards,
    Steve Knight

Like others have said, you really need to push for them to total the car...if they repair it, it will never feel the same. Plus when you're going to take a big hit on resell as it's going to be on your carfax.
    +1

Ask for a "Level 2 Adjuster." They'll look at it more closely and will most likely classify is as totaled.

Do not, let them repair that car. Unfortunately you have other issues coming up... That guy most likely had enough medical coverage for the situation however I highly doubt his auto collision will cover it. Replacement cost on that car is probably 30k range? Here in Cali minimum coverage requirement is $5,000.

You're lucky to be hit by an idiot and won't have to deal with fault issues.

best of luck on recovery both to you and your wife, as far as the car and my experience, should be totaled, especially if the other quarter panel is damaged, but for some reason insurance here always trys fixing hard hits like that, and ends up with a bigger bill than expected and totals it eventually. I see your in MI too , so you just might see a repair thread on it! lol

Haha - was hoping you'd pop into this thread. Glad you're here!

The passenger rear quarter is buckled too (looks like reflections in the photo above, but it's buckled). I've been on the phone with the adjuster a couple of times, and methodically walked him through some observations since the collision: MMI / Bluetooth is messed up, smoke was coming from inside B-pillar right after impact, strange noise coming from center stack (see video above), and the car was launched from the roadway down an embankment and slid about 50 yards through the ditch, hitting God-knows-what sort of rocks, ruts, stumps, etc. along the way (check the underside thoroughly, please).

Thanks for the tip on "Level 2" adjuster, Ubiquitous. I'll work with the current guy, and if he comes back with a lowball repair estimate I will definitely escalate.

We really appreciate all of the well wishes, folks. My wife is a little worse off than I am right now but thanks to Audi we survived!

just seen the recent pictures you uploaded. He should salvage it, especially when there might be electrical problems, insurance company's HATE dealing with issues like electrical, because it can escalate a bill quick. Did any airbags deploy?

No airbags deployed. The adjuster said that the smoke I saw from the B-pillar, which I had assumed was a failed airbag deployment, was probably from the automatic seatbelt tensioner doing its job. They'll have to get in and look at it, though.

There are definite issues happening in the center stack, though, so hopefully they won't want to get into that mess. They're going to start taking the car apart today, so hopefully I'll learn more after they get a closer look at things. I may go by there after work and see what it looks like.

I stopped by the shop today, and the adjuster was still there working on the estimate. He has to come back tomorrow. He hasn't added up the damaged electronic systems in the trunk, and I'm not sure whether he got underneath it yet but he's up to $20k in repairs at this point. That's still a pretty big gap from the market value - about half the NADA retail value for my CPO 2009 S5. :(. Anyway, we'll see how it turns out.

More pics of the carnage follow. I truly felt sad when I saw it from across the shop today...

My damages was over $20k as well, so I totaled it out. They offered about $38k at first for my 2008 S5 with 45k miles in Oct 2011, but make sure you send receipts of any mods you could not take out or remove. After BBK, exhaust, rear sway bar, intake, etc, I got the payout up to about $45k. Forgot the exact number. Me and my wife didn't have any injuries, but, in your case, you have the extra injury claim. Even though I love my B8.5, I still miss my V8 AWE track exhaust. :(

First of all, it's good to know you and your wife are not seriously injured or anything like that.
What's important is you are safe. I hope your insurance will pay up soon, so you can

Interesting...I wasn't sure whether to talk about mods, or if they're covered. I need to check my policy. I have A few mods, some of which were damaged by the collision / some not worth the effort to remove & replace with stock components.

I got a voicemail from the adjuster this afternoon; it's totaled. I'm guessing I'll hear from them on Monday regarding a settlement. My fingers are crossed that the number is a good one.

I went to my Audi dealer today and test drove a couple of A6s back to back: TDI followed by a gas 3.0T. I might go with the 3.0T, but I'm also shopping for a CPO A6 4.2 - haven't seen many around.

Does anyone have feedback on their ownership experience with a C7 A6? I test drove an S6 recently, but I don't want to part with that much money right now. My plan had been to replace the S5 with an S6 in a year or two...haven't banked enough cash yet.

One interesting thing was, my salesman pulled up the build sheet on an RS5 they have coming in next month...with no buyer yet. They had an allocation, prospects backed out, so they ordered it with what they thought would sell: Panther Black, black interior, sport exhaust, black optics package, and other goodies I don't remember. I hope that I get to see it when it comes in.

I really like the 6. A bit too large for me, but you really don't feel the size, once inside. And the 3.0 is good for sure. Anthony, the founder of AZ, has a 3.0 A6. I feel sure he has done an extensive write-up on here somewhere. Would you consider the RS, or just want to check it out? Panter BO looks sick.

Thanks for the info, Mops. I'll look for Anthony's write-up. The funny thing is that the S5 felt big compared to my S4, but when I drove my S5 to the dealership and got into the S6 it didn't feel proportionately bigger relative to how the S5 felt after driving my S4 (does that make sense?).

I wouldn't consider the RS unless I come upon a $100k windfall and could afford it as a garage queen. I was already thinking of moving up to the S6 because I had run into enough situations in the past year where I had to apologize and ask people to climb over the seat and fold themselves into the back of my S5 - so the RS5 wouldn't solve that for me. Don't get me wrong - the RS5 is a badass car and I'd love to have one, but the "5" coupe has become somewhat impractical for me as a DD.

So, the short answer is I just want to show up and drool on the Panther RS5 when it arrives at my dealer.

Dude hope you are both okay but at the end of the day its just a car. Don't worry about it. You cant replace your health. Its priceless! You will get another. Too bad no one got his plate number as a hit and run is a felony.

Dude, there is no way in hell you want a 4.2 A6. It's a total dog compared to the 3.0 SC

As a former owner of an S6 with the v10 (which is still slower than the 3.0A6 @stage 1) I can tell you that you should stick to the new engine.

Man, you must have shown some great self restraint. For one, the self-centered a$$wipe injured your loved one. To top that off, your non-human loved one is also injured badly..... I would have probably gone ballistic.
BUY MY CARBONIO STG 1 and STG 2 intake system! Check my classified ad.

Good info; thanks! I've been leaning toward the 3.0T...time to wean myself off of V8s.

Yeah, he got an ear full, but I kept my distance and made no threats whatsoever...just let him know what a dick he was. I had done no wrong at that point so I didn't want to end up in trouble.

Seems like the guy knew he was in the wrong. You definitely don't want to put yourself into his category by doing something stupid. He'll pay, I'm sure.

    How's the wife?

His initial behavior didn't indicate this; hence my yelling. His head was pretty far up his own ass. But you're right, I didn't want to go down that path.

My wife is getting better, but still having some health issues from the wreck. Thanks for asking!

I went to get as much stuff as I could out of the car today, and was hoping to swap my new RS5 reps out for my old stock wheels but unfortunately one of them was scratched all to hell. I had put about 500 miles maximum on those babies. I got my all-weather S5 mats though, so I'll probably throw them in the classifieds after I get 'em cleaned up.
