Had some 15mm spacers laying around in the garage, I wanted to see how aggressive 20x9.5 35et would look like.

I'm not a fan of these wheels and have some RS5 rotors that I'm going to replace them with.

Replaced what I thought was a "marginal" failed passenger motor mount. SURPRISE!!!! 100% failed and had a few unexpected things waiting for me!

Three things that none of the DIY's mention...

1: unless there is evidence of fluid leaking from the mount, assume there is about 500cc of hot coffee temp oily fluid residing in the mount. So when you are manipulating and rotating it, be aware that at some point, you are going to tilt it in such a way that rains hot oily fluid down on you!!

2: that this things is oddly shaped enough that when it decides to fall out, after you cursed it for 15 minutes, it will not drop straight down, but instead, hang a left turn and smack you in the head despite your best efforts to not be under it, avoiding the aforementioned fluid!!!

3: what an amazing improvement in throttle response this simple repair makes. The ECU/TCU are tied to the movement/acceleration in the mount and it subtly reduces power and adapts shifts to compensate for it. Riding in "S" isn't nearly as chunky and when you tell it to go it only wonders what you were waiting for!

Definitely something I would suggest improving, either with a OEM part or one of the aftermarket versions. Your right foot will be much happier!

I have the Drivers Mount waiting to go in and presume it's in similar condition, but that's a subframe drop and this took less than 2 hours to do!

    Cheers,

    KS

Found out that my new-to-me's S7 oil drain plug is stripped. Despite my best efforts, headed to a shop Monday (after window tint appointment) to see if they can get it out.

If you want to try your own shot at it, these are the way to go.

I can't recommend the regular Grip Edge Torx bits enough on this car (and any VAG car really)

I tried a couple of extractors but I was just making it worse. I decided to quit before I did something stupid and make a bad situation worse lol. Worst case we just tap a new drain close to the existing one.

Well we got the stripped oil drain plug out and got the oil change done. I just replaced it with a standard one from AutoZone (14mmx1.50). This is an actual bolt so it won't get stripped so easily. Outside of that, oil change was as straight-forward as any other I've ever done.

Fixed my leaking oil pan seal! How annoying to find but ultimatly easy to fix. Did it on ramps in a single evening!

Managed to get a perfect bead all the way around even working around wiring and sump parts! Even better... no more leak! Woo Hoo!!!

The wheel is from TT. The shifter is from A6 comp. The wheel is not going to be much use to you though because you can no longer buy the module to make all the buttons work.

I have started playing with CANbus sniffing and a ESP-32... so this sounds like the perfect reason to dive deep on it!! I want to build a CANbus driven WMI system and that would be icing on the cake!

    Thanks for the info!

You'll need both CAN and LIN to make one of these wheels fully functional.

Took care of the vibration in reverse on my 2017 A6 C7 2.0. The Tech Service Bulletin I found on this site requires loosening and retorquing of the three bolts on the flywheel. Done by Autobahn Automotive (Excellent Audi mechanic) here in Augusta in 45 minutes, then out the door. Problem solved. Will be going in for carbon cleaning in a couple of weeks. Both private Audi shops (not the dealer) use the BG three step cleaning method and verify with a borescope. I am still questioning that method. And wonder what they will see with the borescope looking through the plug holes. Neither mechanic wants to remove the intake and walnut blast. As to how that works, I don't know. Most of the chemical cleaners for intake valves are useless according to what I see on Youtube, so we will see. Will report on what happened when I get it done.

What did you do with your c7 today?

Drove down to the race track today to spectate, started hearing a large clunk at random times, thought “WTF is that?” Aired up the suspension and found this puppy under there

Many scopes can be turned 180 and look at top of the cylinder so they are likely looking to see before and after while looking back up through the valves at the carbon on the valve seats and valve stems.

It's a descent way to tell how much crud is in your intake but I am with you in regards to the use of chemicals in trying to combat carbon build up... it's just not very effective as a way to remove build up. Possibly in prevention, but not cleaning. IMHO. Although, if anything could do it, I'd trust BG products to do it!

    Cheers,
