Replaced what I thought was a "marginal" failed passenger motor mount. SURPRISE!!!! 100% failed and had a few unexpected things waiting for me!
Three things that none of the DIY's mention...
1: unless there is evidence of fluid leaking from the mount, assume there is about 500cc of hot coffee temp oily fluid residing in the mount. So when you are manipulating and rotating it, be aware that at some point, you are going to tilt it in such a way that rains hot oily fluid down on you!!
2: that this things is oddly shaped enough that when it decides to fall out, after you cursed it for 15 minutes, it will not drop straight down, but instead, hang a left turn and smack you in the head despite your best efforts to not be under it, avoiding the aforementioned fluid!!!
3: what an amazing improvement in throttle response this simple repair makes. The ECU/TCU are tied to the movement/acceleration in the mount and it subtly reduces power and adapts shifts to compensate for it. Riding in "S" isn't nearly as chunky and when you tell it to go it only wonders what you were waiting for!
Definitely something I would suggest improving, either with a OEM part or one of the aftermarket versions. Your right foot will be much happier!
I have the Drivers Mount waiting to go in and presume it's in similar condition, but that's a subframe drop and this took less than 2 hours to do!
Cheers,
KS
