    So when you check your oil and its way over full and all your coolant is gone its not a good sign lol.
    Step 1:
    Drain coolant errr I mean oil... yes that's coolant. the oil came next lol.



    Step 2:
    Pull the oil level sensor and peek up into the hole.
    I used a bore scope but I could see the problems with my naked eye lol.

    damn pulled motor only?! i never understand it when people do that. i guess your motor just went in relatively recently, and yours is a single turbo setup. but still. i did it that way twice, and its just more of a PITA. of course if you have a lift, the subframe drop is def the fastest and easiest method.

    I find this way super easy. Quicker too.
    But that's with STK which makes everything easy lol

    So I'm now thinking maybe I should do my bottom end plans with the 2.7 late block.
    That way the bottom end should be solid. and will prove it out prior to the 3.0...
    Will just add a week to being running again...

    What makes pulling the motor only (with twins) so bad? What makes pulling with trans so easy?

    Motor only just means u have to fish around all those bell housing bolts and remove the crank sensor vs pulling axles and driveshaft and shifter linkage and clutch line

    It's really just a matter of preference but I like my way. I thin k u can undo the tranny stuff faster than u can fish around to reach all the bell housing bolts

    If you are splitting the two anyway then you have to still take out the bell housing bolts. That's the key.

    As a person who has done it both ways multiple times, the only reason to pull the motor with the trans is if the said car has stock heat shields + downpipes.

    If it has aftermarket pipes and no heat shields, just the motor is your best bet!

    Did anyone end up verifying if the so called "BF" version 2 APB blocks made in 99 were actually stronger? I remember you werent able to verify BT.

    Good to know. All Ive been able to see on my engine is the marking for the production year: 99. So its 50/50 for me right now :P.

    I cant see the part number on the block without a borescope :(. Unless someone knows of some unique angle or way of contorting yourself into the right angle.

    Production year 99 is definitely early gen ae not later bf. lees block was a late 2000 production year, early 2001 h box model year and it was early gen

    As someone who did it both ways...

    You are really gay. God damnit don't listen to rob. He likes to do things the hard way.

    Takes longer bullshitting with the down pipes than removing the axles. Hell, you have to unbolt the tranny to the subframe with that method, half way there.

    It still angers me to this day that I actually did it that way last motor pull.

    Hahaha me too. I did it once that way just to switch it up and I was fishing around forever. So much faster to drop a subframe or pull axles out. These guys are crazy. I mean if u have a single turbo then motor only makes sense but def not stock

    huh tranny from the subframe? dunno why he said that. you do need to tip the trans up to get at the bottom bell housing bolts using visegrips though. all in all the point is bell housing bolts + dp bolts in tight spaces = PITA
