Hey guys,
I wanted to let you guys know, as some of you are pretty good friends of mine, and if nothing else - you're a very "critical" bunch - that my business launched publicly late last night! This is a project that I have been involved with for the last two years and have been extremely active with over the last 6 months.
This business is the reason that my Stage 3 funding has been limited, and is why I have a dead hard stop in a few months, as I will be leaving my current job to pursue this full time and will be living off of ramen for a while to make it work!
You might remember that a while ago, I posted a thread about how I wanted to get out of my current job/big business in general. I've been an entrepreneur since I was 14, but this is by far the most serious attempt at a company that I've ever made. I got a lot of great responses from you guys on business ideas, and I think that most of you should definitely try to look into them more - and feel free to get back in touch with me about them. The passion that everyone had in here with their responses helped push me to take leaving work for my own business much more seriously.
So give it a look - tell me what you think. I'm posting it here for some feedback and suggestions. Note that it is still in beta, so we do expect some errors and not every feature is activated this weekend.
So, what is it?

Pintley is a web-service and online community for rating and recommending beer. You join, we present you with a few beers that you have probably tried, you rate them on a scale of 0-5, and our algorithm creates a profile of your tastes. We use that profile to recommend other beer that you are very likely to like. The more you rate, the more accurate it gets!

Rate beers you've tried so you never forget, add them to your favorites or wishlist to remember while you're at a bar or liquer store, browse our vast library of beers, search intuitively - sound it out and we do a pretty good job of figuring out what you meant, meet and talk beer with fellow beer lovers, see what your friends are up to (beer-wise), and suggest new brews for us to add to our database. You can do just about all of this on our mobile site, too!

iPhone Application - for when you're on the go! All of the functionality of the website in a clean, simple to use iPhone Application. Available in Mid July
Many other features will be coming in the next few months, but I'll keep them quiet for now.
Please excuse our mess over the weekend as we roll out features and make occasional enhancements. As part of the launch process, we've temporarily disabled the blog. We're enhancing these features and you'll see them again, complete with upgrades, extremely soon. We're also testing a predictive rating system, which suggests how much you'll like a specific beer, so you may see this feature turning on and off for the next few days.

Will this website allow me to become a better Drunk driver, get me out of DUIs, or show me which routes are populated with police that night to avoid the whole ordeal?
edit - obviously i don't expect you to answer all of these if information contained here is part of your secret sauce
- Who is your chief source of revenue (ads, beer companies,etc)?
- How are marketing this to your revenue stream?
- How are you marketing this to get users to rate the beer?
- How are you testing the accuracy of the algorithm (or how accurate does it really need to be)?
- Any plans for a facebook app? maybe something that allows you to invite friends to grab a specific beer with you at a specific place (maybe for a discount (coulde be, another potential revenue stream from bars or beer makers/distributors)
- Include liquor in the future maybe if you have this platform?
Good luck, it takes guts and a lot of hard work and dedication to do what you are doing...

Haha, yes. We have an entire marketing plan, which relies 0% on forum exposure. I'm just posting it here because this is where I spend most of my time on the internet, and I'm excited about it.

Absolutely. I didn't become involved in the business until the CEO started to answer that question. I've been working passively with them for about 2 years, but once we really started to nail down the revenue model, I become heavily involved. I really can't talk about it much here, but rest assured, I would not have invested any time in it if it were not a potentially extremely profitable venture. In a few months, the revenue model will be obvious, but for now I would be shooting myself in the foot by explaining it. If you want to talk about it, shoot me an email, and I'd be happy to talk about it there or over the phone.

Yes, an Android App is in development. Our main focus right now is getting everything finished up on the website and the iPhone app (since that's nearly done) and the Android App shouldn't be too far behind it.
