haven't checked back on this thread in a while. Yes, still own the car, and have been further dialing it in. just got the glove box light to work, which was the last electrical thing i needed to fix on it! It has ran perfect except for a random rare hot start issue, (twice i had trouble starting it ) and i think it was related to the fuel pump relay. replaced the relay and cleaned a fairly dirty connection that runs to it from the distributor (that's what turns it on) so far, so good.

Added a small surface mount subwoofer in the back, and put on some period perfect factory fit BBS RA wheels I got a great deal on. Kept the Compomotives for the time being-the BBS are lighter, and i think even more period correct.. Upgraded the noisy radiator fan, replaced motor and tranny mounts. Mostly just enjoying driving the heck out of it.

Car was a big hit at the SF Bay Area Waterwerkes show. Got a lot of attention.

This is by far my favorite 4000 I have seen. Looks like it just rolled off the factory floor!

Awesome car! In April of 1983 we bought a '83 4000S 5-speed as my wife's first car, Mars Red. She loved that car, and we put in Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars, BFG Comp TAs and also blacked out all the chrome trim. When the 4000 Quattro came out that fall, I test drove the first car my dealer got, but we couldn't afford to trade the 4000S on it. I'd love to obtain a low mileage almost showroom condition '84 4000S quattro today. :)

we owned an 87 4000Q and an 87 4000 FWD car at the same time back in the mid 1990's. the FWD version was a fun car as well--basically a 4 door version of the VW GTI. sadly, both our 4000's were totaled while they were parked--both hit and runs. 4000Q's in decent shape still come up from time to time--seems like most of them are in the Pacific NW, Colorado, or the East coast. I think I was really lucky to find this one locally. Not planning on ever selling it, especially after all the work I have done on it.

this week i had my upholstery shop sew on nice embroidered patches i found on my LLoyds carpet matts. i remember when you used to be able to buy aftermarket carpet mats with factory logos on them before the car makers stopped all of that.




here are a couple of photos from the waterwrekes show, (I had the only old school audi there.) and one that shows my monster 16 inch 3600 CFM FF Dynamics fan conversion. that fans pulls more air than the noisy factory fan, and draws less than half the amps. and a shot of my detailed engine compartment. since that photo, I installed a repro fan shroud some guys sells in england made out of plastic to replace the cardboard ones that are usually missing by now

Wow, what a beautiful car, and the engine compartment looks fantastic! That is an amazingly lucky find for sure. It looks like you already have the Cibie headlights -- we put in a set in the 4000 probably the 3rd day after we took delivery, and I think I ended up putting 100W bulbs in the H1 high beams at some point even. Our car was in essentially showroom condition when we sold it less than 4 years later. In the past 20 years, the ONLY 4000S quattro I have seen in anything close to the condition of your car was in the Audi club corral at the Petite LeMans at Road Atlanta about 5 years ago, but it had a few appearance issues I doubt your car does up close.

Anyway, congrats on finding and maintaining a really rare and beautiful classic! I just showed the pics to my wife, and they put a big smile on her face.

GREAT car!! GREAT condition!

I own my `84 4000 S quattro since May 2003 and over here in Germany ist quite the same situation. You don´t find that much other 4KSq.
Over the years I´ve been contacted by 3 or 4 other 4KSq-owners in Germany.

I hope you still own the red one and enjoy cruising!

I had a random stalling issue that I think I finally fixed. replaced the 32 year old coil and ignition control module. car seems to run smoother now as well. I recently purchased a 2012 S4 with only 18,000 mile son it, but still like driving the old Quattro as well.

Been ages, and i still own the car. running better than ever. Found out the issues i was having were caused by multiple problems. A bad battery ground, and a distributor that was having internal electronic problems. Was able to find a fully rebuilt distributor, and no more stalling or hot start issues now. Even fabricated a front spoiler for it from scratch --a Covid lockdown project . Found a set of 15 x 7 Ronals for it in Europe too. Was a huge hit at the recent Radwood NORCAL show.

Well My 1984 Quattro is now 40 years old and still going strong. Recent work was an updated driveshaft bearing carrier and new foam for the front seats. We were able to save the original upholstery. Been running great since the rebuilt distributor was installed 4 or 5 years ago. Just got a new set of Khumo PA31 tires I am really liking. 195 55 VR 15 size.

Nice car. I'm based in New Zealand and new to the group but recently acquired my father-in-law's 1985 Audi 90 Quattro sedan, which is very similar to the 4000.
I have the OE 14" wheels but would love to get hold of some 15's in the same style as what you have.

Can you tell me the brand/model?

The car won the 034 Motorsports award for older Audis at their big Summerfest gathering this year. Its been running great, a/c is working, really like the new Khumo PA31 tires. Someone asked, Those wheels are 15 X 7 Ronals Two recent photos:

The last 4000 quattro I had went 250000 miles and was still running great when I sold it. You will have years of joyfull driving with this car. Great job in bring it back!
