The level of enforcement of "forum law" never ceases to amaze me. Google helps and it would probably be easier to google the question than make an entire thread about it, but since he's gone through the effort why not just answer him...

I run the Motul Specific 5w40 (would run X-Max if I could get my hands on it)

I will be running Castrol syntec 0w30 (german made) in winter.

Stay away from 30 weight if you live somewhere hot or drive the car for long periods.

Anyone run Rotella in these yet? If not, I will be the first. I run it in my Cummins Ram and my CBR 600. Works better than the expensive Repsol I was using prior. Less PPM after 3k and holds viscosity. Plus it's cheap!

Far from the first to run Rotella T6, several 2.0T FSI owners have used it and done oil analysis reports on BITOG forums. TDI guys love it.

It's like 30 bucks for a 5L jug at Walmart vs 65$ for my Motul.

Save some money, you can use Shell Rotella T-6 Synthetic oil. 5w40, not rated for vag cars, BUT! it can withstand US grade fuels and resists dilution very well. change my oil every 5k miles, and my follower and cam for the high pressure fuel pump look polished with no scoring what so ever, last time i checked it (i check it at 15k intervals. . Best bang for the buck.

Is it because is not as good as the other choices mentioned here? I've seen a lot of threads on this subject but i don't remember a clear conclusion on which is better than other or the best.

I've used Castrol Syntec, Royal Purple and Pennzoil Ultra (running currently). Frankly, they all worked well. Throttle was a bit more responsive with the Royal Purple, and the Pennzoil Ultra has the best cleaning properties of the three...but the differences are marginal when comparing top tier synthetics. From now on, it's whatever reputable brand name is on sale for me, but everyone has their own preferences.

From what i've seen, used oil analysis has shown that this oil does not hold up very well at all, especially if you do 10k miles like the manual calls for. Of course all of the Castrol formulas have changed with the name change to "Edge with Syntec" so it might be better now.

Actually the W stands for "winter" and its the viscosity of the oil when its cold. a 5w-30 has the viscosity of a 5-weight old when its cold, and the viscosity of the 30-weight oil when its hot.

    1) Red "T" is the sport package with better turbo. Wikipedia it. As far as suspension it has to do with the colors on the spring usually. Ask a dealer?

    2) I like legal tints, 35% all around in MD. I don't see a need to go any lower unless you want that funny look from cops.

    3) NO WING. Or BOV for that matter. Its your car so it's your choice, but if you decide to go with either I highly suggest not posting anything about it on this forum

    Cheers.
