Talk to me about A4 B5 v.s C4 S4

Hey guys.

I have been on audizine for a while hanging around the B5 forum. I was checking out the Misc. Audi/Classics forum and have found some beautiful Audi's in here!

I have a 98 2.8L B5 A4 and i was just wondering if you guys could tell me a little about something like a C4 S4 or maby a Audi Coupe Quattro in comparison to my B5. I dont know too much about Audi 'classics' but i would really like to know more in hopes of looking for one in the future.

What kind of tuning is around for the C4 S4. I believe they have Turbo charged 5 cyl.'s...is that the most common/only engine for it? How do they handle/accelerate/drive in comparison to the B5. I would assume the C4 is heavier. Easier to tune/make quicker? Basicly, what are the upsides to these cars besides there beautiful muscular lines?

A couple answers for you...

1. The I5 20VT was the only available motor for the S4/S6 in N. America. A 4.2l V8 was an option in Europe.

2. The C4 chassis developed into what is now the A6. So the size difference between your B5 and a C4 is vast. C4 S4=3839lbs and the A4=3241lbs. So I would assume, because the A4 is smaller and has a newer suspension design, that it would handle better than the C4. (I've never driven a B5, so I don't have any first hand knowledge)

3. There is quite a few options for tuning out there. MTM, Intended Acceleration, MRC, 034Motorsport, and Dahlback to name a few. And there are a few places that do custom tuning as well.

as an owner of a c4 s4 i can agree that it doesn't handle very well on the stock suspension , according to my brother it handled like an old caddy. but i wouldn't let that bother you because there some suspension options that will make them handle beautifully.
The s4 may not be the fastest thing stock, but they make decent power with very minor upgrades such as an exhaust, and chip. i would recommend a 3 inch tb exhaust from stromaug. as far as chips go i think the o34motorsports stage 1+ is the best for your money and that will put you at 258 hp with stock exhaust and 20 pounds of boost.

i own a 1990 coupe quattro 20v 2.3 inline 5 n/a its a very fun car modification wise its a bit more difficult and expensive but so worth it in the end im pulling my motor in the spring fully building it and stapping on a 35r , should be fun , as for stock handling is not great lol but with h+r and koni yellows its handles nicely

Well, no getting around it these cars are big and heavy. I drive 1995.5 S6 Avant. But they can handle very well, Mine is lowered 2.5 inches, on adjustable konis and H&R springs, adjustable camber plates. I am running 2 degrees - camber and no toe. The car handles very very well and can hang with my friends lotus elise. Tires and alignment make a huge difference on these cars. I am running Yoke AD08's and offer sharp response. The brakes on these cars suck so i have StopTECH 332mm 4pot brakes on mine and AMD big rear brakes that use an A8 brake rotor. Power options are only limited by your budget. Jonas in sweden i think has the most power out of the 2.2L I5 at 1700 wheel hp. My car has many mods and is RS2 tuned and has about 320 whp and 400 wheel torque. It makes it go. The best 0-60 time is 4.2 seconds rolling. My top speed is 187 redlined in 5th gear. Stock power is good most stock cars put almost 230 hp to the wheels. Chip options can get you to the 285 hp mark. You should drive one.

myself as a former owner of a b5 a4 (sedan) 30v 2.8 quattro with 5-speed that i heavily modified with a PES G1 supercharger kit and intercooled, upgraded front and rear sway bars, dts bar, upgraded snub mount, h&r springs with bilstein shocks, cant remember anything else at this moment. it was a pretty quick and handled well. during the ownership of that car i also picked up a 91 CQ that i still have to this day thats now heavily modified.

i found myself driving the CQ way more then my a4 because i loved how the car handled and the way more comfortable seats that it has over the god AWEFUL seats that were in the a4. i know that my a4 was way faster then my CQ at the time but i got bored of driving that a4 and i got tired of all the little issues that i had with it and sold it.

after i sold my a4 i bought a completely stock 93 UrS4 and i can tell you its a WAY better car then my a4. the seats in the UrS4 are WAY better and more comfortable then the a4. i feel that my UrS4 with its stock power is almost as quick as my a4.

so if you want a comfortable car and have endless (whatever your budget allows) hp upgrades with the AAN motor, then hands down a UrS car is what you need.

Absolutely , having a 01 B5 A4 sitting next to my 93 S4 in the driveway,i have to say i grab the S4 keys off the hook as often as possible . .

Yup , and have 2 sets sitting in the garage , but STILL dont have a cover for it . .Next time(soon) bumper is coming off and new pisser is going in . .Some F%^kstick pulled it out and took it one day , i was wondering why my washer fluid light came on....BASTARDS !!!

i own a 95 urs6 avant, and a GIAC stage 1+ b5 a4 with tiptronic. the urs6 is completely stock as far as power goes, just some 18s, and clear corners. the s6 nails the b5 every time from a dead stop
