    Vibrations on the highway

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright, my car starts to shake at 60 mph+ and was looking for any suggestions on what could be causing it. Dropping my car off at the place that mounted my tires last week, and having them check the balancing. I hope that's all it is, but don't want to get boned if they lie and say it's something expensive to fix if I can figure it out with your guys help

    Re: Vibrations on the highway

Sounds like something regarding tires. I had vibrations on the highway, and it turned out to be worn tires, new tires and balancing solved the issue. But I get lots of new problems, Ventus/Hankook are complete POS.

+1 on the hankook ventus (hrII?) being junk... had them on my old probe gt n they were shit... but i have the same problem.. my guess is that it is the wheels need to be balanced which i am going to have done when my snow tire come in next week or the week after

    Re: Vibrations on the highway

In addition to all thats mentioned, it could also be the rims. If you can let a friend drive behind you and check all the tires while you are going at that speed, then he would tell you which tire is vibrating or shaking. Assuming that the problem is one or more rims.

    Re: Vibrations on the highway

Check the control arm bushings and tie rod ends. If the control arm bushings are worn, they usually make noise while going slowly over bumps. In extreme cases it will sounds like the front end is going to fall off. You can test the front end by jacking the car. Grab a front wheel and see if there is any play in the left/right movement, pulling the bottom/top out towards you and pushing it back in.

    Re: Vibrations on the highway

Does it stop after you hit a certain speed? Mine shakes a little starting at 80 and ending at about 85.

    Re: Vibrations on the highway

yeah as I figured, it was the balancing.. apparently their balance machine wasn't calibrated correctly... and threw my tires out of balance completely. All is well :D Hopefully this thread will be helpful for others, good suggestions, and thanks
