I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys:

    I know there's a post on this stuff every 5 minutes...but,

I've decided I'm getting coilovers. I am almost dead set on Stasis SS but when I was looking today I noticed that Ksport has undergone some changes and they are producing better shocks now. Features I like about the Ksports is the multi-adjustment, the built in camber plates, and the fact the shock and spring can be adjusted for height.

I know that the Stasis is Koni and it's a twin tube design. I know that the Ksport is a monotube design. I also know from reading onemoremiles's previous posts that a twin tube gives a slightly softer ride over monotube. My question would be: Which is better for a daily driver? Twin or Mono? Can the mono be ajusted to soft and still be compliant for street use? What about spring rates on mono vs. twin tube?

Maybe I'm asking too many questions, but I want to get it right.

    thanks guys.....

Low pressure twin tube is much more comfortable and is better for daily driving.

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

It depends on the shock design of course, but I'm guessing that a mono tube can't be dialed down to full soft and be comfortable on the street?

Onemoremile.....I've got pretty much the same roads as you, so you can imagine my conerns! Stupid frost.

Then stay away from high pressure designs. The pressure acts like a supplemental spring rate and creates an additonal harshness. All the Bilsteins I've run feel like the car is crashing into bumps and freeway expansion joints. Bils versus Konis feel like 20" wheels versus 17. My KW V1 coilovers shook the car so bad it has permanent creaks and rattles even with the stock sport suspension back on.

I went with STaSIS CO's last year also... weighed a schwack of issues, ride quality being a biggie with our ridonkulous Canadian roads.... love them. Anything stiffer and I'd be running into problems fo sho!

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

yeah, I was reading some of your posts before B5Burn. Your winters are worse than ours here, but this one this year was rediculous. I think between the three of us we cover similar roads so I'm going to go with the Stasis. I feel every bump now and it's the stock sport...I hate it

Edit: ^Jared, that was one thing I liked about them, but also one thing I couldn't understand?!! I love the fact of having camber plates, but how does it all go on? There has to be some cutting of the shock tower or something to make it work....not in for that.

Considering our cars arent a mcpherson strut design it might be a little weird to put camber plates on them. Adjustable contol arms my friend is the way forward.

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

The Vogt's are awesome, but within the autocross club I run in, I know gobs of people with varying suspension setups... if I were doing nothing but track/autocross and to and from events, I'd be all over the Vogt's as an affordable light-use track kit (but then I'd just get Tracksports). But yeah, Winnipeg roads rate as one of the worst... our strange winter has wreaked havoc everywhere... occasional and somewhat invisible 2" and 3" buckling on road seams, miscellaneous road hazards all over the place.... don't get me started.

    It's "pothole season" right now.

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

I bent 3 wheels this year to the point that they need replacement. Potholes are out of control here too.

The KSport camber plates can't be for our cars. They have to be a generic thing included on most other applications. What I'd love to see is a Tein EDFC style adjustability but that won't be easy with everything that covers the top of the struts.

I'd also like to see how the KSport dampers are adjusted. Do they need to be removed and compressed or can the car be modified so that the upper mount is accessible?

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

I've actually never seen that either. I thought I read something saying they can be adjusted similar to the PSS9's, but don't quote me on that. I think it's probably a good shock but needs a bit more research.

Toronto put out an offer to the city.

"If you find a pothole on your street, call the city and they will be there to fix it within 3 business days"

Bullshit. This is Toronto we're talking about. They can't even lay a manhole or water shut off valve correctly, how are they going to do a pothole?!!! And besides, there's so many cracks, dips, heaves in our roads I don't think the potholes are the big concern! Stupid street car tracks.

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

We got a 30 day notice here. Rumor has it that in order to have a bent wheel reimbursed by the city you'll have to have hit a pothole that still exists 30 days after they have been notified. That way they have ample opportunity to fill it.

Wow, thats really bad! In Wpg they just say "too bad". Honestly. It's Pothole season and you have to drive according to conditions.

    I am not joking.

I'm running the Stassis SS and love them. I would say regarding the roads you'll be fine. Drive smart and you'll have no issues. The roads here where I live are some of the worst I've seen. I would say much worse then most places in Canada. I can speak from experience. I actually am a Canadian living in Sweden. The CO's feel great and are a very sporty ride. I purchased mine from Matix in Portland. They were a great group of dudes to purchase from. Good luck with the purchase and the install is cake.

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

Adjustable damping is pretty much a PITA on our cars anyway though, isn't it? Unless you drill a hole through the shock tower or have a setup with remote reservoirs...

As far as my own personal experience, I had Ksports on my previous car, a 90 Integra, and they were pretty damn rough. Not that I minded it, I actually kinda of preferred it in a car like that. With my Audi I went with H&R, I'm 24.5" fender to ground, and somehow, they're almost stock-like [O_O]

Re: I know, but I've gotta ask....Stasis vs. Ksport

Forget the ksports and just get the Koni coilovers, i got them greased and set like stasis settings, car runs and feels great kinda stock like but lower. I actually had my summer tires squeal with my stock sport suspension when i took corners but since putting the koni coilovers on, these tires stick like glue and dont squeal. The only down side to these was i didnt raise them for winter with my 16' winters on really lowww got beached once this winter, next winter will pay the $70 and raise em other than that GREAT, why pay for stasis when u can get koni and make em stasis no disrespect to stasis but if u looking to save money try that route....

I REALLY hope you're talking about paying for an alignment, and not $70 for someone to adjust your coilovers...

Cmon dude! Save yourself the $70 to put toward an alignment, adjusting the suspension only takes a jack and 5 minutes a corner!

Yup...going with Stasis. I could buy the Koni's and adjust them to stasis' specs, but I'm finding that I can't get Koni's any cheaper than the stasis....especially with the group buy. That's what I'm going to do....probably pull the trigger in the next day or two!

    Thanks boys!

I heard back from BSH about the Ksport suspension. Yes, it is a harsher ride due to the monotube design....but we know that now. Also, the pillowball mounts are not available in our cars. If you get the Ksports there is no way to adjust camber unless you add an aftermarket camber kit.
