Mr.UPC's B7 RS4 Avant Project "RS4VANT"

Little big of back story:

I recently just sold my 2008 corvette after 6 years of enjoyment because i wanted something a little bit cooler to me, and more unique to go to cars and coffee with, or other shows. I fell in love with a recently finished b8.5 s4 avant my brothers shop did, and knew a wagon was for me! I always loved the styling of the b7 rs4 so i talked with my brother and he siked about taking on this project

So, a few opportunities lined themselves up to make this project more feasible, first i was able to buy a great exterior condition 2008 RS4 for a good deal off ebay

Taking delivery, made it from Utah to Delaware in 3 days

Deal number 2: The A4 Avant

a few weeks before i decided to go this direction, a tow company in wilmington brought my brothers shop an avant that was abandoned. They asked him to check it out and let them know if it needed anything. After having a key made for it, the went to start it only to find the motor was blown. The tow company decided it wasnt worth it to fix and resell so they took it back. fast forward a few weeks later after i discussed my project ideas we were able to get it back for $500! the key for it was $200 lol. so $700 for a a4 Avant with a clean title not too bad!

So now i got the RS4 for a deal because it has 141k on it, and also they said the bell housing had a crack so we started with taking out the motor






Crack? more like a full on fracture. clutch, flywheel and everything in it along with the tranny are most likely trashed. they thing who ever did the clutch job didnt put all the bolts back as it was missing 4 along the bottom and caused this.

What’s your plan for the transmission? Whole new unit? Weld the bell housing?

Would def spend some time going through that motor knowing the bell housing blew off and it’s got 140k on it. No sense in spending thousands to instal a bad motor.

Will follow of course.. let me know if you run into any issues.. I’ll let you know if anything jumps out at me as being done wrong.

and my brother bought a destroyed s4 quattro edition and sold me the tranny from that, it only had like 40k on it!

as for the motor, hes going to dig into and see whats up. it already has low compression, and a intake flap code. but as i might of mentioned on ig, im just going to do it right and rebuild.

I think I need to open an RS4 Avant swap consultation service and start changing for this shit

The housing is the same, I would just swap the RS4 gears into the other trans.

Update #2

With the motor out, it was time for me to get my hands dirty. now i'm not a mechanic or know what i'm doing so i wont get a lot of chances to help out on this project, but i was able to tackle removing the interior trim of the avant

i was surprised how easy it was for me to remove the trim pieces, granted i had legit trim removal tools, but i was expecting to be breaking pieces left and right. needless to say i didnt break any tabs or pieces

i did however spend like 2 hours trying to remove the back seats. i knew you had to yank on the bottom portion but didnt expect to have to go hulk on it. my brother stepped in after a while and removed them in like 3 seconds lol

the back portion of the rear seats also through me for a loop. and i blame my brother for it he told me i had to remove what turned out to be the seatbelt bracket and they would just come off. well after an hour or so of trying to get to the bolts for the bracket my brother came over and conveniently forgot all i had to do was flip up a little tab and the seats would simply flip over lol well now i know












now to get a rear rs4 avant bumper and forward onto the body work stage!

Small Update Smashed 25Quattro donor arrived

To solve the transmission problem, my brother ( the king of falling into golden deals) was already looking at a salvage s4 25Quattro edition that he was tear down and use parts for a 2.7t b7 conversion. The car had like 40 or 60k miles on it i cant remember, apparently a younger driver got the car and smashed it into a brand new range rover in less than a month of ownership... ouch

and man did he smash it up



everything other than the front end is great tho. interior is flawless

Update #3 RS4 Avant bumper acquired!

Thanks to everyone who wants to keep updated with this build!

It took a little bit of searching and some help from instagram, but i was able to get the part number for the bumper, and thanks to Ebay, found one a little scratched up for super cheap!





only damage on it. and it shoudn't be a problem since the whole car is getting sprayed.

i dropped the bumper off at AV Auto Worx where the cars are stored, and a body shop is going to take a look and get me some estimates hopefully next week!

brief update.

found a used s4/rs4 hatch spoiler, and got some quotes for the body work. negotiating a little bit then will cut the check, and all the body work, paint and panel swap will start!

You can just swap the spoiler and not the whole hatch.. unless you got a European one and want the European license plate cutout.. otherwise they are the same.

The ONLY thing I would do differently...definitely not black. Haha. Personal preference only. I saw Dan Greys beauty in person at Avantoberfest. Before that I always thought the photos hid the body lines on his Avant. In person, the green is much lighter and the lines....

I fear with Black Pearl you won't have much of a "lighter colour" to show off the lines. Again, strictly a personal preference. I love some flash like Nogaro, Sprint, Merlin Purple etc which is not for everyone.

Great build regardless! Pumped for the final outcome

Not sure I understand the pick above. Would imagine it’s pertinent to do the engine swap first before a full repaint.

It’s def a tough decision. I was considering s more unique color, but I feared I’d get sick of it after a while

He'll treat you right. an absolute machine when it comes to vw/audi mechanics. i was just down there Saturday dropping some stuff off and giving my a4 a look over.. Grabbed some fancy pics while i was there of my BNS

Yeah I think all I need for parts on my swap is the fuel pump and module for it and like seals and gaskets but Mario helped me a lot with motor and all the really big parts

yeah man.. crazy that theres only like 2k RS4's in the country and AV auto worx has like 5 bns motors there (2 in cars)
