Just picked up an 01 F21 car.

Just picked this car up, basically same story as my B6 S4. Previous owner put a lot of money into it, but started with performance and looks. Doesn't look like any maintenance has been performed in years. Leaking oil from everywhere. All the mounts and control arms are shot. Plus side, lots of pricey parts.

I'm going to start tearing into it, first call 034 and get all track mounts. Get all the oil leaks sorted and go from there. I don't even have a list of everything that's been done, i'll find out as I get to it.

    Update, how it sits today.

This car has come so far in a small amount of time. Basically replaced every maintenance item from wheel bearings to timing belt. Here is a list of mods:

    Engine stock 2.7T

    Daz tuned, 91 and E85
    Frankenturbo F21's
    Modified Frankenturbo inlets

    034 spider hose

Yes it is, I know I know it's a lot. But I'm planning on going over everything. So I'm not all that worried about the mileage. Full stage 3 was done at 207000, funny right.

Very nice, where did you pick this up from? My car had the same sort of previous owner, lots of money spent on high dollar parts but stupid basic maintenance things or repairs were not done. Kind of opposite of what the natural order of things should be.

I'm in Los Angeles, I found it in Redlands. I'm excited, all in all it's a great starting point. I've wanted a b5 S4 since the first time I laid eyes on one. It's funny I always wound up in something different. This car will be with me for the long-haul.

Exactly how I ended up with mine, drove a few back in high school and always wanted one since.

I drove my first one in high school, then bought it, and haven't owned anything other than an s4 since. My car market is very narrow and extremely biased.

OZ IIIs! Awesome! Look like 18s? I bought a set of 19s and thought they were very rare and now 3 or 4 cars have popped up this year with them on... lol. MOAR PICS!

Yep 18-8 OZ IIIs, I can't find the ET stamp? Fk coil overs, what Looks like a 034 carbon intake, AWE intercoolers with carbon shrouds. I know it has an epic tune, any thoughts on them? It is spiking at about 27, holding 25 on the AWE gage. The camber is all wrong it has some Adjustable uppers I've never seen before. The exhaust, what I believe to be a Milltek is cut on and welded and leaking. This car has some good and some bad, I have my work definitely cut out for myself.

^psh, its not that bad. With the amount of weight that those little tranny and motor mounts support, you really need delrin and billet on everything if you want it to feel locked down. The NVH is noticeable but not horrible...but the difference in feel is incredible!

Play with one that has sterns on the motor, 034 motorsport on the tranny, and poly dts.
Might just be the combo, but Im tempted to start throwing another set of tranny mounts in every time I see it and swapping them back out before it goes home.

Seems like you are fine running whatever mounts you want elsewhere, but keep the tranny mounts a little softer as these are right under your ass.

I went with the same basic set up on my B6 S4. Even going from good stock monts, The feel just improved drastically. I love The driving experience you get from having the drive train completely locked down. My Basic idea for this car is road course with interior. Next major mod Will be getting rid of all of the bushings for spherical bearings. Not worried about sound, or comfort, just feel.

I'm not saying the driving experience won't be improved, it definitely will. I run almost the same setup and honestly, I agree with zillarob. Don't regret anything else but those tranny mounts, those made every loose thing in the cabin annoyingly obvious.

    ECS rear diff mount

Ya, just go easy on the trans mounts (like stern or 034 street density) and you will be better off.

I put a set of solid ones in my car once. I only had to back up 4' before I knew they were coming back out
Odd thing was, I put them in another car to diag some drivetrain slop and it wasnt that bad. Ymmv I guess.

Those 3pc superleggera's would definitely have been
as selling point for me. Nice wheels! Also don't listen to
everyone on here. The car feels so much better with solid
mounts. The nvh increases a little bit but keep in mind
your turning your heavy & comfy luxury sedan or what
once was into a more performance orientated ride.

I am gonna be running stern motor mounts, and I already have 034 street trans mounts, as well as an ECS diff mount, were you saying this setup is optimal? Or garbage. Maybe I am a yard, but your phrasing threw me off. Haha

I personally have never run Stern anything, not to say they're not good. I've had a passion for VAG products for a very long time, always run 034. Everything from suspension components to mounts, even engine parts. I've never been let down with the quality. I think especially in regards to the B5 chassis, they know what they're doing.

Not here to shit on 034, I love them and their products. BUT my first trans mount I received from them looked like this after a few months with no launches... Stage 2.

They promptly sent me a new one. (Made me shell out 15 bucks to ship the little thing) Still happy with my mounts though.

I have known of people having experiences like yours. Thay must have had some bad batches, I beat the snot out of my B6 S4 and my A3 on the track and the street. Suspension components mounts, never had any issues.

I think it is rough, but I drive like a girl most of the time and always seem to be in the rpm range it is most prevalent.
If you get it wound up a little it smooths right out.

I think you have a nice list there and it will be an excellent driver.

I babysit one with stern motor/trans/snub and it is by far my favorite setup.
Firms it up nicely and adds just enough rumble to know you are sitting on something.

Well I can't say I've seen one brake, or even Heard of one breaking. But this is where I put my faith in a company I trust. I'm going to track this car eventually and want to know that I've done everything right. It may be overkill but that's what gives me peace of mind.

Ordering and receiving parts is the greatest thing ever. It's an addiction, I consider it my one vice. Looking at all the parts and the fact this thing has 217000 miles on the clock, I'm pulling the engine. Whoever had worked on previously, The turbo install and such, was just a hack. I'm going to do it right the first time and be done with the engine at least. I'll start pulling it tomorrow.

Put the S up on jack stands on my lunch break. I'm hoping to have it finished in a week. I'm going to pull the engine apart and replace all the bearing, rings and the oil pump. Send the heads and block to the machine shop to be gone over. Just a basic refresh. This thing is a mess. I'm also going to replace all of the front suspension components, and all the wheelbearings. Hoping everything will take me about a week. Wish me luck!

I would seriously reconsider tearing into the motor unless youre doing rods or something.
These things are pretty shout and wear very well. A few people have stg3 cars with well over 300k on the original motor.

Id just reseal it and save the money for all the little bs that you will find along the way.
Just replacing the hoses that are swollen up from oil and psteering fluid leaks adds up pretty quickly.

My last car was a B6 S4, so everything scares me. It runs great, compression is good. Think I should be alright with just a reseal, that was my original intention. Then I let a Chevy guy friend talk me into tearing it apart.
