Kody's B6 A4 Kraftwerk turbo build on e85 and meth

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I decided to take the time to post my b6 a4 money pit project at last! Started in january of 2014. Currently at approx 340hp. Still running an N75, not MBC. Has anti-lag LC and no lift shift as well. Still has all of the safety features from the ecu in play. Here is a little bit of the build via slide show. http://s1171.photobucket.com/user/Th...6%20A4%20Build When I started my build, I wanted my build to look like something that could have been bought this way brand new from a dealership. Essentially, something that you could of ordered with these upgraded options for an extra charge. I was shooting for a next level fully loaded option like stasis or usp persay. I want to thank Kraftwerk Turbo for all of the help along the way! They rock! I also want to thank all of my fellow az members for the awesome DIY write ups and help along the way as well. Anyways, here it is! Enjoy! Thanks!

Start of the build. Note: My engine is the AMB code engine with stock block and heads. I went with the complete Kraftwerk Turbo kit. It included, TM5+ Billet custom made turbo, Custom silicone turbo inlet pipe, Larger MAF housing, High flow exhaust manifold, and a 2.5" wrapped SS down pipe. Also included 550cc Bosch EV 14 injectors rewired in and FSI R8 red coils. Has the IE coil spacers on it as well. The FMIC, is a complete kit, it's 2.5" piping, it's an cx racing FMIC kit. It included the cold air intake as well. Kraftwerk did a full custom tune still utilizing the stock 22psi MAP sensor and N75, not MBC. Current turbo also has a 10psi wastegate actuator. Car runs with all ecu saftey features still in place.

Did engine bay DIY delete and installed a custom tip with only N75 and DV connections. Had Kraftwerk tune out the Sai, The EGR/Kombi valve and the rear 02.

Note: If interested in the tip posted above, Kraftwerk turbo had them custom built. I forget the price they sell them for, but they do sell them.

End product of paint project. Installed rs4 rep top grill, sourced lower side usp grill inserts off ebay. The lower center one is super pricey and to be honest. I think i dremeled the lower part out to much to fit one anyways ha! Wheels are stock 5 spoke a4 wheels on good year eagle gt all seasons. 235/45R17.

Decided to update the vc and intake. Polished part of the intake and did ghetto powder coating in my oven. Turned out well in my opinion. Also removed old fuel injector inserts and replaced them.

Before and after headlight mod. This was by far the most time consuming part of the build.

Upgrade turbo from Kraftwerk TM5+ 46mm inlet, billet dual 6 blade 4psi crack pressure wga, to Kraftwerk TM5+ 47mm inlet, billet dual 7 blade 12psi crack pressure wga. Turbo was having issues keeping boost under control, had to run a larger waste gate actuator.

Also decided to add meth! It's installed 12" from TB. Currently running #7 nozzle injecting at 12psi. I have my windshield washer tank, doubling as my meth tank. This way when it gets low, I get a light in my dash telling me I have low fluid. Also installed a mini LED light in dash (hard to see unless lit) that turns on when my meth starts injecting. My meth consumption is pretty impressive as well. When doing spirited driving (getting into boost daily, having fun,) Approx 320 miles. I only use about 80% of my meth. Pretty much I only top off meth at every fill up. Im using Walmart grade -20 degree washer fluid. (32/68 Mix)

Install single mass flywheel swap/6 puck ceramic clutch (This week)
Install stern motor mounts, trans mount, snub mount (This week)
I plan to pull the engine this winter and upgrade the internals so i can turn up the boost. Hoping to reach 400 to 450hp when finished with engine.
Also planning to upgrade to b7 s4 brakes.

Nice build! The results (performance, handling, looks) speak for themselves.
Anxious to see the next step going past the 22 psi current N75 control limit; either via higher pressure MAP sensor with the corresponding tune/maps/software for it or MBC (if no one is writing the maps for the high pressure MAP. And rods, naturally.

Running the CX racing fmic cold air intake combo. The manifold is a cast one, forgot the name. The side grills are still in. Had to trim them a little bit to fit the fmic. Haven't acquired the lower center grill. They are very pricey. The turbo I'm running now is an kraftwerk turbo. Tuning was done with Kraftwerk and Daz. Hoping to put some b7 s4 brakes on it come next spring.

True: but as we old geezers say: as long as you can lock up your wheels, you got enough brake. Contrary to the common believe that bigger brakes make your car stop quicker. No question: bigger breaks are nice (and a must if you are racing and run into brake fade after a couple of hot laps). But power the brakes can 'get to the ground' is limited by what your tires can get to the ground (just like traction off the line). When you reach the point where your traction is so good that yoru brakes cannot lock up your wheels: time for bigger brakes. Until I 'suffer' (a nice problem to have on our quattros) from endless wheel spin during acceleration, and can't lock up the wheels anymore (due to nice wide sticky tires), my rule is: add more "GO" until you need more "STOP". Or your budget can justify both, the B7 upgrade AND good suspension AND bigger wheels tires AND - say - 400 cHP GO goodies (and a spare block if on stock block).

    Looks good.

Question. Did you have to swap out the stock speakers when you installed that pioneer X2 DIN unit?

We had been testing high flow manifolds for a few years; the one we selected has now been running (and HEAVILY abused during testing, logging, etc.) for 3 years. All the 1.8T Kraftwerk Turbo cars with upgraded turbos used them.

The Kraftwerk Turbo TM5+ in the car is a custom turbo based on RS4/RS6 frame with our custom billet compressor wheel and compressor housing. In this setup, turbo is not even breaking a sweat holding 22 psi (limit of stock MAP sensor to stay with N75 control. And Kodymfk - as well as us - are no fans of MBC; at the very least, we would have to give up 'stock' control and safeties that come with the factory N75 control scheme). At redline and 22 psi, the TM5+ is running around 50% duty cycle; so plenty of 'breathing' (uh: blowing) room for more. Test runs with MBC dialed in at 25 psi showed holding to redline. No sweat (but afraid 25 psi may be too much for the stock block/rods). Plus, we haven't found a (tuning) solution for the (available) higher pressure MAP sensor to maintain the desired N75 control.

(the shown TorqueMaster Monster TMM1 is 'prototype only'):

You can implement the 4 bar map sensor. Do you do your own tuning now? I live in Brighton, and I think we have a few mutual friends locally. Ardian, I think took his car to you?

Are you using Used OEM, New OEM or Chinese frames? What type of warranty do you provide and how long do these last?

I like the question and your way of thinking: We use OEM housings, cleaned, stainless steel bead, inspected. Then machined/modified.
If we come across a real KKK (before Borg Warner started to mess around with the quality), we keep those for ourselves (MUCH higher inconel and nickel content, much better quality).
Cartridge from Europe. High quality 360 degree thrust bearings. VVT high speed balanced. Compressor housings either OEM, then modified, or suppliers we have been working with for a long time; then machined.
    Warranty: one year.
How long do they last: if you do it 'right', you can destroy a turbo within 15 minutes (we have seen it!). They run forever if you feed them sufficient clean good oil and coolant (and run stock boost). But a lot of 'not so bright' installers/mechanics/DIYer don'th head the instructions on the box (new oil lines, synthetic oil, etc), or do not diagnose the failure (of the original turbo for example) properly ("turbo is bad, need to order new one. Week later: your turbo is dead again. Need another turbo. Only to find out that is sludge infested engine is gone, plugged oil pickup tube and/or failing oil pump; no oil pressure. Duh!).

Higher boost levels DO have an impact on the lifetime (the axial forces on the bearings increase with boost). Wrong diverter valves don't help. And if you like to take one hour long videos showing your car spitting flames (Kodymfk - you are warned!) in launch control, your are also 'on your own'.

The problem is not the 4 bar MAP sensor (we have those since a long time, now even ECS is offering them). The problem is the very labor intensive work to re-write the software for the new MAP. For my own AR (with 4 bar MAP from UK), I bought the corresponding software from a tuner in the UK for our use (2.7T). Haven't found such solution for the AMB 1.8T yet. But when the need arises (B6 with strong enough block, or owner who doesn't mind braking the rods), we will either invest the time/effort to write the appropriate software, or (hopefully) find someone in the meantime who has the maps done already and willing to 'share'. If my ATW hotrod (with TMM1, water/meth, build AEB block, built AEB heads, high flow AEB intake manifold) gets there first, I may (this will NOT be a daily driver) bite the bullet and tune with MBC. Anticipated boost level 26-30 psi?

Brighton friend? PM with more hints (year/make/model/color; auto/manual), what did we do for him?) I can better identify with engine code/technical background then with names (I know, its pretty bad...)
