EuroCode Tuning High Flow Intercooler Pipe Install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I decided to give this install a try just to see what it would do.

    Removal:
The install Was Pretty easy, Had no issues putting in the new one, but removing the stock tube and sound box was a bit frustrating. Mainly just getting access to the 3 bolts that hold the tube to the frame. The sound box hides one of the bolts giving you about an 1-2" clearance to get a socket wrench in and the the others are just 2 high behind some tubing and the wheel well cover. I Removed several wheel well cover retainer clips and 1 bolt in order to give me some hand room to get the socket wrench and my hand in. Once I got the bolts out and tubing hoses disconnected I was able to remover the old sound box tube out through the bottom or the car. The tube got hung up a few times coming out because the stock tube had C-Brackets that hold cooling hoses in place. Simply pop the hoses out and away she comes.

    Install:
To install the new tube you will need to remove the stock Rubber grommets and aluminum inserts that will mount to the new tube frame. Then remove the stock sensor that is mounted to stock tube with 2 torque screws. Then mount the sensor to the new tube with the new supplied Stainless Allen head screws. After all the stock components are mounted slide the new tube up from the bottom, bolt it in place which will be much easier now with no sound box and reconnect all the tubes and such. I had to replace one of the stock Intercooler tube clamps because there was not enough thread to tighten on to because the new tube pushed the hoses out a bit further. Luckily being a master plumber I had one in stock.

    Review:
As of 12/7/13 I only had a little time to drive it around, but I did notice the throttle response was a bit quicker and with less hesitation. However I did notice that the boost gauge was lagging out A lot!? Not sure why it was causing the boost to spool slower, but I couldn't feel the difference in lose of boost, So I'll Have to take it out for another test drive soon.

    Review Update:
So I put on a few Hundred miles this weekend after the install to really test out this mod and a Sway bar position change. What I noticed first was that the sponge-ness when letting off the clutch and hitting the accelerator was nearly gone. It's now a seamless transfer of energy when releasing the clutch and engaging the gear, very little lag time. Which I like very much! Well worth the buy IMHO.

The boost seems to be fine after having first tested it I thought the boost was spooling slow. I found out it was due to not having the sprint booster on the highest setting. I sometimes change the setting and forget what one it was one. If you don't have a "Sprint Booster" Yet BUY ONE!

Thanks for the post! I'm planning on doing this mod in the spring, and your post will definitely come in handy.

Do you have any other mods such as a tune or exhaust? If so, do you think the pipe complimented those mods well?

The install is much easier when you realize that you can literally move the stock box out of the way to access those bolts you said were tricky. Since the box attaches to the pipe via some simple rubber bushings, you literally remove the box from those points. The box will still be attached to the pipe via the hoses but it allows for flexibility making the job 10000% easier. The only thing I did not like about the HFIP is that it lacks the clip that holds the power steering hose to stock pipe. Other than that, its pretty sweet

Gonna attempt this install today using this guide. Hope all goes well, and thanks for the tip b4a41point8t, hopefully they will make it good a little smoother :)

edit: Great write up! Install went flawless. The airbox is only attached to the pipe by a small nipple and grommet which just pops off. This makes getting to the last bolt cake. Just used a 6'' extenstion and it came off with ease.

Some tips to reiterate, there was a little oil at the bottom of the pipe you are taking off, maybe only 5-6 drops worth, but enough where you dont want to be under it. Thankfully i wasnt and it went on the floor. Also, make sure you really keep track of how you are taking apart the shielding, that can be a little bit of a puzzle to put back in, theres 2-3 different screws/clips. I wound up with an extra screw or two for the shielding. Other than that, very easy straightforward install.

I hope not ! but I've never Worried about Warranty when I'm modding a car. It's usually a Bonus to me If they overlook everything and cover any repairs.

I'm about to try this out. I noticed that in picture #10, the front wheels are on ramps. Does this mean the install can be done without removing the tire? I realize this sounds like a foolish question based on that picture alone, but i'm lowered and am wondering whether this job would be easier by removing the driver side front wheel. Any tips are appreciated.

Saw a pic of a front mount intercooler install with the grill removed and showing full access to the high flow intercooler pipe so I went ahead and removed it too. Gonna attempt the pipe install from this end.

    So far, so good!

Once you remove the bumper it shouldn't be too much of a problem... I'm planning on installing this pipe along with the CTS Turbo FMIC this upcoming weekend. I know the IC and hoses are straight forward but I had the feeling that this high flow pipe would take the longest. Let me know how that goes. Good luck!

Just took it out for a spin. I love it! Yeah, this definitely is a job you wanna allot a couple hours for. I did have to jack it up like 6 inches and remove the wheel to remove the two right nuts. Removing the front bumper made everything else much more accessible though.

I peeked at the front mount intercooler connections and it does look like a simple job. I may do that next.

Taking the bumper off is very simple if you have done it before.

When i put in my EC hfip, i took the front left wheel off, held back the wheel well while a friend got in there with the wrench. Probably took us 30 minutes or so to complete. Was not very difficult at all.
