    01e swap parts thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I found this place that's local to me

    http://www.lindersinc.net/homesams.html

Could put a swap together for 800 bucks from the looks of things

And what I would like to do is create a sticky thread that has an entire parts list for each scenario.

    A6, s6, allroad.

There are a lot of thread that just don't have a complete list. I'd like to see everything including needed bolts, mounts, electrical plugs.

Swap mafia unite and let's get this a sticky

The one caveat to that price list is that Sam's rarely if ever takes in a manual transmission Audi whole. Most late model cars go across the street to Linder's first, then, once big money parts are sold, they're moved over to the pick and pull lot.

I drive by here often and checked there 12 - 15 times over 4 months while I was acquiring parts for my swap.

Great place for all the supporting items though, such as pedal clusters, wiring harness and or pigtails, rear diff, interior bits, etc.

I know that list but I want a sticky thread so its all here and you don't have to go through 14 threads to get all info and coding.

For the S6 you will need:

    Clutch
    Flywheel with spacer
    flywheel bolts
Spacer plate (if clutch/FW used from S4) A4 2.8 does not have a plate
2 lengthened down pins (same note as above)
    Transmission brackets with mounts
right side front output shaft heat shield
One M8X35 allen head bolt for trans mount (others can be used from the auto trans)
    Rear driveshaft
    Shifter assembly
Clutch line, and hydraulics (clutch slave and master)
Pedal cluster from manual car, or brake pedal, clutch pedal, clutch pedal switches and associated hardware.
    Clutch pedal switch harnesses
Engine to trans hardware (note only 4 bolts from the auto trans are the correct length, the other bolts have to be sourced independently)
Front axles (note I use stronger (and new) 130mm tripod style front axles and corresponding flanges found on the European diesels)
    Rear driveshaft heat shield
Shifter boot, surround, and shift knob
F125 switch mini harness (an Advanced Automotion exclusive)

The A6/Allroad uses the same except including a rear diff

The Allroad prop shaft is exclusive to the allroad and the difference is the center carrier bearings bracket is taller. An A6 shaft can be used but it puts the central U-Joint at an odd angle.
The 130mm tdi front axles work for the Allroad as well as the A6/S6.

This is great for the guys who have a lot of time to collect the parts and dont mind getting their hands dirty. But I just want to point out that the 6speed swap packages that are available from Audis4parts and Advanced Automotion are very competitively priced in comparison.

I got a quote from my garage to pull all the 6speed parts from my A6, for use on another car. They quoted me $700. So, there is quite a bit of work involved in the process.

Next, as mentioned above, there is almost no chance of anyone getting an 01e for $99. About the cheapest I see around from a wreckers with warranty is $700.

So, if you add up the $700 for the 'pick em yourself' parts, and the best case scenario $700 01e, then you are already up to $1400. So, where you are really saving the money over one of the kits is the labor to pull everything, and include it in one package with warranty. I personally, would always go with the package for about $2000.

Don't take this the wrong way. I think this is a great resource. I just wanted to point out that the packages from the sponsors are VERY fairly priced, and probably the best option for the guys like me who dont have time to hunt down all the parts.

    Nice work!

I agree completely that there kits are reasonable I just want to create a honest data base for the DIY guts.

As far as the 99 dollar 01e goes its worth stopping by

Which sonar cars have the right (4:11) transmission for use in an S6!

Do all the pedal clusters and shifters interchange? Or do those need to come from a C5 chassis. Will the ones from an S4 (b5) work?

It would be helpful on some of these lists to know what parts from what cars work! I see mentioned above that a rear drive shaft and ale shafts are needed.....but from what cars and for what recipients?

The b5 s4 01e and the a6 manual both have the 4:11. Allroad gearing is different and bad news for any v8 owner

Driveshafts must be from A6 manual. I've been using the stronger European TDI axles with flanges.

This is as far as I've gotten. Still need to take care of ABS, ESP and E-Brake lights.

Here's what I did. First I $hit my pants cause I've never touched an ECU before. Then....I regrouped and did a lot of searching over on nefmoto.......honestly half the stuff was like chinese but I was able to navigate enough to make sense of what I needed to do.

    Read this thouroughly: http://www.nefariousmotorsports.com/...shing_Software

Download the NefMoto ME7 Flasher Logger.

    Test your cable.

Download 559E file on nefmoto (shout out to ddillinger)

    Read. Save.

    Write.

    Enjoy the transformed beast.

Is it possible to use a a6 prob shaft in an allroad ? Or modify either one using the stock Auto shaft?

The carrier bearing is different and using the A6 shaft in an allroad will put more angles at the cv joints and the center u joint. You can also swap over the carrier bearing which will make it straight again.

Great info thread! In my allroads future id like to change my ar 6 speed to a S4 6 speed. Im sure ill be bringing up this thread for references. I dont think ill need much to do the change just finding the right transmission here in canada is going to be a challenge.

    In addition to saucemanpc's instructions:

After flashing the 559E file, recode it to a manual (10712 if using said 559E file)
    Clear ECM fault(s)
Login to your ABS module (either 07497 or 07495 {IIRC} depending upon which motor you have) and then change the last digit of your current coding to a 5, i.e. if your coding was 06397, change it to 06395.
Select login for your steering angle sensor and input value 40168. Do it.
Select basic settings and from the drop down menu select steering angle sensor. Do it.

It's useless here, no one comes in here with questions. The point of this thread was to nix the monthly questions in that section as well as be a proven database.

Ha! I was just thinking this sounded familiar- same exact thing on our old 04' 4mo Passat. Ross Tech does list the procedure somewhere. You get the ABS faults until it can figure out whats straight again-**
    http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/car...ringangle.html

    Says this:

Procedure for performing the zero position calibration for the Steering Angle Sensor (G85) on VW Passat and Audi A4/S4, A6/S6, and A8/S8:

This procedure details how to perform the zero position calibration for the Steering Angle Sensor (G85) in many VW/Audi vehicles equipped with ESP (Electronic Stability Program). This procedure should be performed when vehicle alignment is performed or if any of the following components have been removed or replaced:

    ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP control unit (J104)

    Steering Angle Sensor (G85)

    Steering Column

There are certain test conditions that must be met before doing this procedure:

    Start the vehicle.

Turn the steering wheel one turn to the right and one turn to the left.

Drive in a short distance straight line on a level surface at a speed not higher than 20 km/h.

If the steering wheel is straight during the test drive then stop the vehicle with the wheels pointed straight

Ensure that the steering wheel is not moved again.

Keep the engine running and do not switch off the ignition

    [Select]
    [03 - ABS Brakes]
    [Login - 11]
    Enter 40168
    [Do It!]
    [Basic Settings - 04]
    Group 001
    [Go!]

This will store the zero (centered) position of the steering wheel. There should be a displayed message that reads: "Steer. angle sender compens OK". If you get an error, it may mean the Login was not successfully performed.

Click the [Done, Go Back] button and you're all set

I've got a few offerings pertinant to this thread.

I've made a mini harness that wires up the engine compartment using the tip harness. It takes care of the reverse light switch and the neutral saftey starter problem.

I've also got heavy duty 6mt front axles and flanges. Suitable for Allroad use and any other C5 conversion. Best of all, the parts are OEM german pieces, not china crap.

Login to your ABS module (either 07497 or 07495 {IIRC} depending upon which motor you have) and then change the last digit of your current coding to a 5, i.e. if your coding was 06397, change it to 06395.

You need to recode the ECU 'soft coding' to reflect V8 + Manual Trans + ..whatever options in the car that are on the coding list.

when flashing my car the immo was preventing the upload, all attempts to kill power to the cluster failed, removed all fuses. nothing worked ecu had to be removed and bench flashed.

If you opt for the TDI trans from Scotty as I did then the gear ratio for sixth gear will result in your cruise control not functioning in sixth.

HUGE thanks to Ddillenger for taking personal time to go through ECM maps to get a file for cruise control to work in all gears with information provided by Scotty.

Both Ddillenger and I have the working file for cruise control if anyone should need it.
