Sam's OEM PLUS 02' Avant Re-Build Thread

Well he we go again. I'm going to slowly rebuild my 2002 Avant. It will be pretty similar to my last build. This time around I plan to do an OEM plus styled build. I will do the basics first then lead into the build of my spare engine. If you followed my last build, this build will move at a snails pace compared to the last. Nonetheless it will give a project in which to spend my free time. I like to post pics of the simplest things so get ready for them.

Maybe get a Sportec rear, they are still available from Sportec and not expensive. The valence hangs down lower than the S4 rear making the rear wheel opening more of a complete surround of the rear tire, and also has bigger exhaust cutouts. Since it is euro, it uses the shaved rear bumper rebar used for the USP rear, making the rear bumper stick out less and a slightly cleaner, no nonsense look IMO.

You can also get a Sportec rear that has no cutouts for the exhaust tips. I think they made them for the euro TDi, and they have them available as well. I thought about doing this but decided against it. But I would love to see someone on here do it. I think either of these options would look great given the vision you have for the Avant.

I pray my build is done before yours, if not you will have finished three builds in the time it took me to do one!

I know I've never seen one since I've owned the Avant.

Last used one I saw was the one I bought from Austin at GIAC back in 2006/2007. They are quite difficult to find.

Sounds like your re-build and my re-build are similar. Looking forward to seeing what you do. You will probably finish before me seeing as I have been sitting on the new parts for 8+ months and have not introduced them to the B6 yet.

Nope, can't let it go. I'm just gonna make this a show car a gain and drive the B8 daily. I get a much better response at the shows with the wagon since they are so rare.

When it boils down to it, I enjoy the car show scene and there are too few ways to differentiate from the crowd with the B8 platform. The choice of quality body kits is non existent.

Sam you're a copycat. I went OEM with my sedan. Got rid of the oetty and staggered wheels. I have USP front, S4 rear and S6 wheels. I wanted a nice, clean oem look for my daily. It still turns heads like it did when it was done up.

I have an 02 Maestro ECU and plug if you are interested. Let me know it came off of a GT30R car with a 630 cc inj. file. Havent' gotten around to running it since I have so many maintenance issues to deal with on my car. Congrats on the re-build.

This is gonna be awesome. It is always cool to see/hear someone who has a B8 that says they are relatively boring/disengaging to drive and still has the passion for the B6 platform.

Have you considered getting a custom tune instead of using Maestro? Or are you or someone you know good at tuning with Maestro?

Me and a friend are pretty good at the Maestro thing. Although I'm always up to try new things. More info on this custom tune ?

Oki. Then Maestro might be the best route, personally I never got the hang of it sadly..

I'm sure there are lots of custom tuning options, but I would consider PMing Bische, he has tuned vinny.dtw's car and is currently tuning mine..
