iamshayan this is my GTRS Build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,
I'm not good with the whole talking thing so here goes-
It all started when I cheeped out on a steering rack about a month back... don't worry, I'm paying for it now.. The rack I put in has just died... already... I know I know, buy nice or buy twice... whatever life goes on.
I took this as an opportunity to upgrade the turbo and install some new lca's while the car is down. I've been collecting parts now since December and I couldn't have done it without users matt devo, 613b6 and onceover. Thanks guys.

    Going on is:
    • GTRS
    • OEM Ported manifold
    • PSI concept coolant lines
    • 550CC injectors
    • Revo 3 ($50 upgrade from 2 atm)
    • 034 inlet pipe, 034 breather hose.

    +
FCP Lower control arms' and a steering rack.

    What I have is
    • precision turbo & engine 350 FMIC core w/ EMUSA piping (2")
    • 3" custom tp/dp
    • 2.75" magnaflow 'cat'back
    • Podi boost gauge
    • valeo single mass clutch kit.

    Pictures
These are my goodies I've been hoarding.

Anyways, yesterday I pulled the rack out (so much easier the second time around) and started on the turbo. Today I got the turbo out, removed a bunch of shit and tried to fit the 034 breather. I cant get the supplied Oring to fit in the oil cooler housing so I used the stock one for now. I want to get this all done by saturday at the latest so I booked thursday off work for a full day of wrenching. Stay tuned!

Looking good, I really like the look of your car. As for the difference between the K03 and the GTRS, you're gonna have a shit eatin' grin on your face for quite a while. I had a GTRS elim prior to my 60-1 and it was a great street turbo. Pulled nice and strong from 3000 RPM and up. Great transient response time as well. Looking forward to seeing the results.

When you get the car running with your tune I would like to know how the revo tune goes for you. I am going to be having kind of the same set-up.

Cool looks like its gonna be fun. Funny how the gtrs elim after all the time seems to still be the most proven setup as far as balancing gains with cost...

    Thanks guys!

Going to pick up 2 exhaust manifold studs from the dealership after work today because the ones that I got in advance dont fit.
damn local euro shops. I asked them to get me OEM studs and nuts and I'm pretty sure they just went to canadian tire or brafasco.... oh well, such is life.
Also Im picking up my new steering rack ZF non servo from a b7 after work. Just have to get my tre's off the current rack. The yard I got it from is covering it under warranty luckily.
plan to get the turbo on there and fit the lines tonight... Tomorrow I will spend the day finishing everything up on the turbo and doing the rack/lca's. hopefully go for tuning friday afternoon and an allignment saturday morning.
    very excited.

I'm glad you posted what type of rack you're getting for your b6. I have an '04 avant with your specs and I need to get one soon too. Going to search local yards for that kind. Thanks!

Ended up getting a B6 one but its date stamped 2004/26/12 and it was really clean before I got my greasy hands all over it.
Anyways, I put the rack aside, I really hate putting it in there by myself.
I spent my night installing the turbo and manifold and fitting the PSI concept coolant lines and the stock oil lines (with restrictor of course!)
I kind of had to twist the oem oil return line in order to fit it on. I dont know if its is bad but hopefully it will last at least one oil change lol, I think Matt_devo was selling one, I'm going to see if he still has it.

I thought stock lines mated up to Eliminators?

You should just goto a local parts hire place and ask to borrow a pipe bender.. you would get a nice clean bend on that return!

May I ask where you got your "cheep" steering rack? If you don't want to respond here that's cool, but I'd appreciate a PM. Good luck with your build!

nope, no longer available, but to use it you would need a different flange on both the turbo and drain pan

I got the rack at a local wreckers for $120, It died 8 weeks later. Got the new one under the 90 day warranty.
I spent the better half of the morning putting it, Man was it a PITA! I seriously hate doing that job myself.
I was upset when I went to put my myle HD tie rods back in as I think I dropped somthing on one of the TRE boots and ripped it.
Luckily I still had the spare Febi ones in my basement, so swapped them out.

I could probably write up a Steering rack DIY if anyone would be interested. Its pretty simple, 3 bolts holding it to the frame and 2 bolts on each spindle and 2 fluid bolts.
Its Just such a pain to access.

Anyways, I spent the afternoon deleting my vac lines, fitting the TIP and trimming the intercooler plumbing to fit.
I also wanted to get new hose for the DV as I deleted the resonator but I searched far and wide with no luck, I couldn't find it anywhere! No one seems to have any 7/8ths or 1" hose and 3/4 is to small.... must be dealership specific. ... So I just reused the stock hose and replaced the T fitting with a double barbed fitting.
(found a 1 inch barb fitting n/p but no one has hose that size - ironic)

Then I fitted the lower 034 PCV portion on the the block, greased up the o-ring and jammed it in. I had to reuse the stock upper Y fitting as I got the wrong kit. But Lazlos helping me sort that out. Thanks lazlo!
Just came in for a quick update, will post pictures in a bit. Heading back out to the garage now.
Apparently its supposed to snow tonight.
Oh and on another note, I dropped my blackberry into a pale of used motor oil. but who needs a cell phone when you have more boost!
special thanks to Antoinebourdeau who is hooking me up with a free oil drain line from PSI concepts.

( I found this clear stuff but I didnt use it for the car I think I'll make a beer funnel out of it. )

I just used some 1" heater hose I got from Autozone and a 90° coupler at the TIP

I think I remember reading that there was some negative effect(s) to deleting the resonator...any idea?

There are a couple of these but with a FMIC there's no negative result in removing the resonator...

Ugh I am having the worst luck.
I was bolting in the steering rack and I noticed that my diver side inner cv boot is ripped. got one on order for tomorrow.

and then I got everything back together and went to put on my tires so I could put the car down, Sure enough theres a screw in one of my tires and it's completely flat.

And then I figure I'll at least put oil and coolant in it, and fill the steering fluid.
I filled the Ps fluid first, then the oil and then the coolant. Two of them went in fine..... but
As I was filling the coolant I could hear dripping, So I looked at the floor and it was like my worst nightmare.
Coolant just pouring out of my turbo's lines. I hadnt started the car yet luckily So i stopped filling and just drained it out.

I'm tired now and I have work early, So I guess I'll go over everything for a 3rd time again tomorrow. I already double checked everything lol,
Do you guys use like teflon tape on your fittings?
    here are some pictarssss

Regarding the tire, just pick up a plug repair kit from the local parts store. I've probably repaired 2-3 holes from screws over the years and it's always held.

Yeah thats what I did, As for the inner cv boot, i'm going to deal with that tomorrow and focus on the coolant lines and making myy bumper fit properly today.

Anyone have any tips on where I went wrong with teh PSI concept lines? I think the bottom one is just not tight enough but the top one has some coolant leaking in a strange place. any opinions on that?

I only got coolant lines from PSI concepts, The oil lines I used stock, A local member said I could have his Oil return line when he comes to town but IIRC matt devo said that it was about a 1/2inch to short on the return.

I think teflon tape is probably a good idea on the fittings, but I also am not a mechanic.

DO NOT put teflon tape on those threads. It gets way too hot down there and will cause it to melt, which can cause some big problems
