finally got to spend some time in the garage. some custom fab aluminum parts pics

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
spent some serious time in the garage today. it felt really nice to blast some music and create some parts.

machined a block breather adapter. then welded on an -10 AN fitting thats getting run to a catch can.
-started out as some hex stock i had laying around

-turned to down to a round piece

    -getting the flange part going

drilled and starting to bore out the hole a little bit

-comparison to the old cracked guy

    -welding on the -10 fitting

    -tigged up ready to go

started the intake for the turbo set up since i decided to run a MAF/DV for the maestro tune. i'm started to regret it. my last set up i had a 90 degree silicone elbow and it was terrible and flexed. I thought since i started tigging aluminum i would try a make a nice one out of aluminum.

-this beautiful tube is gonna get hacked up into millions of 15 degree pie cuts

-million pie cuts turned into this all tacked up

need to wait for air filter to come in and a tt 225 maf.

let me know what you think.

Nice. I don't have skills like that, and need to either buy parts that thread/clamp/bolt together or pay someone to make it for me.

thanks for the replies. yes lots of time went into it the intake. the crank case vent took like 30 minutes. I'll also post of the catch can i fabricated with some spare 2.5" aluminum ic piping and some caps i made with a hole saw and some aluminum plate. the time spent making these things i probably could have saved my time and bought something to make it work. but i think the intake will serve me well since i hated my last set up. I guess i take a lot of pride in craftsmanship and learning the tricks of the trade.

here is another little project i did last week
i had coilovers that need new collars. Koni wanted a whole bunch of dollars so i gave this a shot. i never read of anyone doing this so i'm just putting this out there. I cut the collars on the coil in halfs and knocked them off. I cleaned up the threads on the collars and shock bodies. Then i placed and aligned the collar halves back on the coilover and tacked them together. I fit them up so the spun freely up and down the threads and took them off and welded them back together. Then cleaned them up on the lathe. you can see in the gap some filler and the gap in the threads from the cut. Seems to work out pretty well

    Finished up all the welding

here is the homebrew oil catch can. total cost was about $12 for the -AN weld in bungs. those -AN fittings are about $10 each. Got to add a nipple and breather filter and a mount.
