Thumbs up Big Thanks to Alex & David!!! Another Sexy Taillight Upgrade

Finally got everything install and coded. This was probably the easiest upgrade I have ever done and the fact that its literally plug in play (minus the small adapter for the inner) makes this all more worth it. Huge thanks to David & Alex for putting together a clean package to get everything. At first I wasn't sure that I wanted amber turn signals, but after a saw a couple ones here in Cali I knew that amber was the way to go. Heres some "magical" iPhone 5 shots.

What would you possible want to change them to? Turn are orange so not like you can use them for brakes. LED Strips are single brightness so not like you can use them for brakes. Hazards are automatically what ever the turns are so no altering those..

On older LED lights there is much more room for custom configurations and I've done a few.

I gotta stop looking at this thread! Everytime I see it it makes me want to do it. If only the lights fit just a little better...

DavidB8, I am intrigued by your comment about altering the patterns of the older LED tail lights? Can you please tell me what can be done????

There are a few options. On NA LED lights they can almost be converted to Euro with a few small changes. Mainly just replacing the outside white bulb with an orange and some recoding.

It's possible to turn the middle brake light on the outside lenses into a fog light.

One other configuration that seemed really popular was to just use the outside lights and not the inner brake light at all. This gave the car more of the A6 look where the LED's circle the outside of the light and keep the look nice and clean. I have seen that configuration and it looks very clean and nice. I've had a few people ask for that one. So basically the ring of the lights is used for running, brake and turn.

Sounds good David. Do you have any pics of what these mods would look like? I am having a hard time visualizing them. The clear bulb is used when in reverse right?

The first and third mod sound interesting. Does it take to mod?

With the older LED converting to Euro looks the same as Euro, just find the original thread with the orange turn signals. Of course it doesn't give you the proper fog lights but gets you closer. You still retain the same reverse lights the rest of the world has (the ones on the inner lights).

Here is a video of a conversion I did that isn't stock. It creates as mentioned before more of the A4/A6 look.

For comparison here is a stock Euro Conversion.

You could do a mix of the two. At any rate I would ditch that odd inner brake light, totally kills the look of the lights and the A4 and A6 don't have them.

As in replace the outside reverse light with an orange bulb and recode the lights to use that as the turn. Just another version which would make it look more like the bottom video.

Should also note the first video is also Euro lights, we just disabled the turn signals on them.

Got these tail lights (FL) going as well! The orange blinks are amazing.
The little gap that some were worried about is barely noticeable... At least on mine!

can help you with coding the new led tail lights FOR FREE, remotely, if you have an VCDS interface connected to the car.
also i can give you the right harness schematic before coding.
100% full working tail lights without any error on the BCM2.

HI, last year I read here if I want to update the tail lights (i have a bulb audi a4 2009) for the new facelift tail lights would be really expensive and i have to buy:
    1. New tailgate /rear lid
    2. New facelift tail lights
    3. And do the new coding.
Is there a simple way now?, i mean just new facelift tail lights and coding?
    thank mates

the new facelift tail lights have different shape on audi a4 b8 limo... you must change the tail gale also (mandatory) to fit the new tail lights.
only on Avant cars are plug and play (except the connectors and harness of course)

NA lights function differently (by differently I mean super dumb) and do not have amber turn signals. I cannot see any reason you would want NA lights.

I doubt that it's possible to get a non facelift R8 light, such as an S5 LED to sweep, but what is interesting is that when you apply 12v to an R8 turn signal like the one above it blinks solidly. When I have more R8 modules to adapt the facelift lights I could try one on another model LED tail, but I just don't see how it would work without the internal electronics of an R8 facelift taillight.

By the way, resistors don't get the R8 facelift light to have a sweeping turn. I purchase modules from an electronics company in Europe that has a small logic board inside of it to emulate the sweeping turn signal function in early R8's to get the new tails to work.

    Dear All

I have a US audi a5 2011, and it has led rear lights. I need to recode the lights to european. It would be great if someone could help me. I know the security code for 46 module, just need the european codes between channel 185-211. So my lights are the facelift leds but not the newest one, and I need to recode from US to european. I dont mind if would not be fog light.

Do you have the codes before coding?

Hi Robytza appreciate you can help or guide me. I found all wiring / connectors / coding is in this german link http://www.motor-talk.de/blogs/reini...-t4384191.html. This german link shows the coding table from LED tails (ROW/european) to LEDs facelift tails (ROW/European)
    - Next is the coding table in english-

My problem is got the american facelift taillights (not the europeans)
    8T0 945 094 D (EU/ROW ends C)
    8T0 945 093 D (EU/ROW ends C)
    8T0 945 096 J (EU/ROW ends H)
    8T0 945 095 J (EU/ROW ends H)

Question is channel coding is different? if it is:
    1. Has anyone do this MOD with the american facelift tails and which channel codes used?
    2. An facelift american a5 owner could give me a hand taking a read of the channel values and writing down for me..?
    3. An expert could know what it is the function of each channel ?
    I bought this set:

    thanks

Good! I have PM you, in the meantime it would be nice if someone in audizine can help me with either
    - Channel code numbers from an a5 facelift NA (USA) (at least 195 to 213 channels)?
    - An expert could help what it is the function of each channel (195-213)?
    Thanks

If you have a mirror to check the function while you work, the easiest way to identify what each channel does is to code them to "0" one at a time, and watch the results. Here is what I found on my US spec 2013 S5 when converting to Euro spec:

*EDIT: Explanation of columns: "Channel" is self-explanatory. "USA" is my original coding. "Custom" is the Euro-spec coding I settled on. "Position" is the physical part ("INNER" parts are mounted on the trunk). "Description" is what that channel controls electrically (note that "inside" here is still on the OUTER part - there is a small bank of LEDs that are controlled separately).

Thanks Drew, that is very good information for starting my test, did you the all conversion by yourself or just the coding?
    regards!

Both. I did have help from another forum user who discovered what the codes do. I forgot to put that in the original post, here here it is:

I'm going from US pre-FL LED to RoW FL (rest of the world/euro) LED tails and wondered if the coding I should use is the same as yours, or if I need to use separate coding like the values I've seen posted on A5OC. My only concern is that the A5OC codes were for RoW pre-FL tails to RoW FL tails, and they look different to yours. I am hoping to use either your codes or the A5OC codes, and really hoping I don't need an entirely different set of codes for my situation.

The order of coding might be different, but the what the codes do should be the same...maybe. Again, the easiest way to figure it out is to use a mirror or have a friend watch the results when you code each channel to "0" or "32" (depending on left/right). You will see which lighting element turns off, and from there you can decide on what that particular element should do and code it accordingly.
