the connectors at the bottom are not part of an original ICM, they are used to bypass - I'll take another stab, fusion reactor?

If this is what i think it is YAY!

I've been thinking of doing this and I've also got a bunch of 2.0t coils that I can use, dreading breaking into the harness for the coilpack connectors though...

:) yea i just finished ordering the last of what i needed to get this going, man the connectors are expensive not to mention the pins. The ones that go to the newer coils are $$, not sure why they cost so much. Im going to make a harness that is complete plug and play for now without a single splice, but i think i might just chop the old coil pack connecors off and solder the new ones in so it looks cleaner.

Well... they're expensive and fail. When they fail it's really annoying. Deleting them gets rid of this problem. I don't know all of the details behind it... but the newer standard for ignition coils is better than what is used with the ICM's and cheaper.

here is a cost comparison per current ecs prices on OEM audi parts:
    old coils 058905105 86.83 x6 = $520.98
    coil packs 4A0905351A 188.37 x2 = $376.74
Total for old stuff = $897.72

    New bolt down coils 06B905115E 30.87 x6 = $185.22
or if you want the red push down ones 077905115T 20.29 x6 = $121.74

You do the math what will save you $ in the long run.

If you get a misfire, you will know exactly what cylinder is failing cause you dont have to think its an ICM.
Most of us still have the original stuff on the car which is a ticking time bomb to go out, i am at 140k on the stock stuff one reason im doing this.
No data, but people that have done this with the 1.8t say they have better spark response.
The new Hitatchi coils are supposed to be one of the most reliable ones out there.

I have IMC issue before and I simply replaced one with used one that I bought from member.
    Cost me $50
I am still running my OEM coils and im at 112k on the S right now.

I replaced the hitachi coils on my wife's 1.8t with the red push down type and now I can run a larger gap since the coils throw a hotter spark, her car has 234k miles.

188k on the S and im looking forward to this conversion.

infinkc, the wiring that goes to the coilpacks for the 3-prong coils, how does that pin out with the new 4-pin connectors? is the "new" wire a ground or?

props to you for plug and play.

I think this has been done before on the S, but still looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I think I might have a bad ICM, so I'm tempted to try this as well. Used ICM's are reasonably cheap though.

Can you share the part numbers for the ICM connectors and pins? I want to make my own plug and play, easily removable harness.

We stock the Volvo 4 pin connectors and our own replica 3 pin connectors, along with pins and such, if you want to pick them up. Pretty competive pricing since we buy in bulk.

That being said, we sell our ICM deletes for $60 complete (for both), which after the cost of parts, isn't much.

Just thought I'd throw it out there.
