    Clint's B6 2.7T Build/Swap

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, so I have been trying to fill in as much info into certain threads as I can but I'm at the point now where I need my own thread to keep things organized. Here goes....

I picked up a 2004 Audi S4 with a blown motor for very cheap recently.

Quick run down of the mods

    - 6 Speed Drivetrain (not a mod, but very nice for the swap)
    - Oettinger Front Bumper
    - Brembo GT 355mm 6 piston fronts
    - Kerscher Sides
    - RS4 shift knob
    - KW V3 coils
    - Modulare 20" wheels
    - AWE Catback (not going to matter)
    - APR Downpipes (not going to matter)
    - GIAC tune (not going to matter)
    - Oettinger Roof Spoiler

What I will be changing up:

    - 2.7T Engine Swap
    - Possibly Frankenturbos if I get the cash, but staying stock for now
    - Gutted Precats (Piggies)
    - New Custom Exhaust
    - Tuned ECU with rear 02s written out
    - Ditching the wheels (20" is too much for me and too expensive to maintain)
    - Possibly getting OEM front bumper (I had a low bumper on my A4, no thanks)
    - Possibly putting S4 blades back on (like them)
    - Putting black rings on the trunk lid
    - Possibly making the front rims silver again
    - Either putting my black A4 window trim on or vynaling' the S4 one
    - Full wash/wax

    Onto the swap:

Picked up a full 2.7T with ~120,000 for $850 with downpipes/harness/turbos/etc. Just need an ECU

    1. Wiring - depends on years, still not done

    2. Power Steering

    - Need to use the B5 S4/C5 A6 rack to engine line, otherwise everything bolts up perfectly

    3. Exhaust ?

    - Need to add extensions on the downturns of the downpipes. NEITHER Tiptronic or Manual will work (at least with Stern Mounts)

    4. A/C ?

    - Needs to be custom, more added later

    5. Snub Mount

    - Need to re-weld a B5 S4 mount to get it to work in the B6 S4. 3.0 Need to do nothing and 1.8T need to do some welding also

    6. Fan control?

    7. Heater Core

    - Using B5 S4 heater core hoses, they mount right up to the B6 core. Thanks Audi

    8. Radiator

    - (If not 3.0) Need A4 3.0 Radiator part #8E0121251AR (apparently B5 S4 one also fits with minor trimming)
    - (If not 3.0) Need A4 3.0 Radiator Hose part #8E0121109A (may not be needed if you cap the bottom radiator outlet)

    9. SMIC brackets

    - Stock 2.7T brackets with some custom work

    10. Project Pricing

    Pricing for everything:

    1. Engine with most parts - $850
    2. Power Steering line and Coolant Hoses - $60
    3. ICMs - $50
    4. ECU - Free.3
    5. Samco TBB (not needed) - $40
    6. Stern Street Mounts (not needed) - $200
    7. Misc. Clamps - $25
    8. 3.0 Fuel lines/cap for fueling - $20
    9. Wiring connectors B5 and B6 - $15
    10. New lower timing cover and bi-pipes - $70
    11. A4 Mount Brackets - $100 (could be cheaper and also not needed if you start with an A4)
    12. A4 3.0 Snub Mount Bracket - $40 shipped from Ebay (could be cheaper and not needed if you start with 3.0)
    13. A4 3.0 Radiator - $100 (could be cheaper if used and not needed if you start with 3.0)
    14. A4 3.0 Rad Support - $140

TOTAL: $1710 with a few small things left

If you had an A4 and didn't do mods: ~$1390
If you had an A4 3.0 and didn't do mods: ~$1100

Nice man but get rid of those hideous wheels and body kit...IMO the stock body on the B6 S4 is best because it's clean and simple. Plus, how come your not going to build the motor if your going through all that trouble?

Sounds like fun, I would wager that funds could be a limiting factor on a built motor at this point. Just getting the actual swap done is gonna be a major setback to the old wallet. Good luck, subscribed

While spending another $15k would be cool, I took a huge hit on my old car that was supposed to get $11k for breaking, causing me to only get about $5k. Also, a properly done built 2.7T with supporting turbos is ~$10k+ against my ~$1500 that this will cost me

Would be nice, but at this point the stock kit with blades, stock sides, and front would cost me a good bit more than I have

You got it man. The swap itself is going to be costly with dumb things like a clutch/TBB/SMICs/etc and adding a built motor would only make things more annoying

Personally I like the yellow calipers but those whees not so much. I love the lines of the b6 and the interior is nice. Good luck pal, you have now been subscribed so keep the posts coming.

Did he have BBS LMs before, live near the Germantown, MD area and by chance did he have a Gallardo? lol

    Sorry man, 21 questions!

    Stage II isn't a 400whp engine... stage III on FT4 makes 420whp. I expected more from a s4 owner.

White bbk would look sick with some black 18's.

This will be an interesting build. Looking forward to the finished product.

What other go mods are you doing?

Edit: Keep the body the way it is. Only change would be the wheels and Dope sticker.

The 355s need 19" or bigger. Also, the B6s look better with 19s. Everything is listed in post 1

Ah so this is the new beast. I was a little sad when I read that you sold the remaining bits of the car before pulling the heated rear seats and associated harnesses, but I completely understand. Looks sharp, though, and I think the final result will be a little more reliable than your old beast. Good luck.

SoCal, but not the nice part

One of us needs to get this swap done ASAP. I've been sidetracked with work stuff, plus I was looking for another B6 3.0 to swap my 2.7t into, but I abandoned that idea and bought an '08 R32 as a DD. Gonna tweak the avant a bit and swap the engine into it. Be sure to post lot's of pics and maybe a DIY. :)

This will be a build thread but there will be a short and sweet DIY with every part number and wire change needed.

nahh.. i run 18" wheels over my 355mm Alcons with plenty of extra space. i could probably fit 370mm's. you just need to get the right wheel.

This thread gets a big thumbs up from me:) The one thing that I would have done differently although a bit more work would have been to start with an s4 with a blown motor. The car looks great as is, although not exactly to your liking definitely get the 2.7 running before you spend $$$$ on aesthetic changes. Best of luck on your build and thanks for documenting it with such detail.

Damn good catch, no more drunk posts :P but stage 2+ should put about 350 down (a strong stage 2+)

I think Roti actually SELLS those...so shouldn't be too hard to find. :D Not a fan of the NUE's personally. I think the MIA's or BLQ's (machined) would look nicer.
