    85,000 mile service done!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yep piece of cake. It really was just an oil filter and oil change. Lubed up some of the hingess and sunroof. Cars running fine with no issues between the 75,000 and 85,000 mile services. But I have noted more oil consumption. About two quarts between changes. So not much to report.

Hit a hellacious pot hole today thanks to the recent rain over here. Luckily no damage but man, I was wondering if I blew the tire....

On a non Audi note, I traded my 99 911 for a 1971 911E Targa shell. I'm going to be using the funds generated from the 996 to build a wicked lightweight 911. Woot!

    75,000 mile service.

The only out of service issue I had was the intake popping the butterfly valve arm off @ 60K ~$950 or so bucks. It's bone stock BTW.

Because I'm trying to figure out what monster I'm planning on putting in there. Thinking a 3.2L ~250-300hp. Or a stock 993 3.6. Who knows. The car is going to weigh around 2000lbs. Nice weight to hp ratio! Lowered and lightened!

I'm thinking the same exact thing, except 120k miles or so. Here's hoping they introduce a sportback and/or a serious facelift in the meantime.

It definitely doesn't make the car slower... In all honesty, this is my first turbo and I always heard how much a tune transforms these Audi engines, so my expectations were probably too high. In my experience, it's most noticeable at highway speeds when accelerating to pass. Worth the sale price, IMO.

I travel a lot for work. Depending on where I need to go one day I might need to go to San Luis Obispo, Palm Springs, Colton, Tucson, Phoenix, Barstow, Las Vegas etc etc if it's easier, I'll drive. Most places I go to are outside the city limits so even when I fly in I have to drive an hour or two to the location.

I'm hoping for the facelift. I would expect something new in at least 2012 or 2013.

I saw your 75k service post. I guess when Audi went to the chain drive it removed the headache for the whole timing belt swap? Do you know anything about that?

I've done them since 55K. This service was $15 for a filter and washer, and I have a stock of Mobil-1 oil since the old P-car used the same oil.

Talking to Sunset Audi in Oregon, at 115K miles I need the chain replaced. I will confirm before the next service since I want to check that I'm not missing anything else. The standard maintenance does not specify the chain replacement at 115K......

And FYI I just put another 425 miles on it today! Temecula, CA to Baker, CA and back. I will have another 1000 miles on it by Saturday night.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I hope your company pays you for all that excess mileage! If I have to drive more than 150 miles for business, I rent a car to keep the milage off mine.

You're only mising the fact that he didn't mention it... meaning it's probably none of your concern.

The chain should not need to be replaced. They are spec'ed to "last the life of the engine"

Ha! I thought about this for a second and thought of a scenario:

Customer: What happened to my engine?
    Mechanic:The timing chain broke.
Customer: I thought that was supposed to last the life of the engine?
    Mechanic: It did.
    Customer: o.0

Well I hope the life of the engine is 200K. 40K more than I'll have it... for good measure.
